its way too time consuming anyways, rather go to one of the ice zone levels, fly up and as the timer is like 800, after completing it, just fly up collect the coins, reset the level and also have that perfect run away at the start of the level, think it is world Six is frozen, right?

Why people even need 99 lives? Man you get 20-30 lives while playing few first lands and you only lose couple of them in the last land :D Just play through lands 1-3 and then use the whistles to warp into land 8...

The tanks you meet at the dark world offer a better way of getting extra lifes

You need the racoun(I don't know how to spell it) suit and jump on the bobooms and use your tail to keep on the air till a new 1 is shoot out from the cannon

Can you finish this level without a raccoon suit? The pipe to get out of the area is on the roof in the deserted house yet the only question mark box gives a mushroom if you're small or flower power if you're big! I always have to put on the raccoon suit before starting this level. Am I missing something?

This method is too time consuming. You'll take forever to get 99 lives this way. It's better to find a few turtles and repetedly jump on them or find goombas cotinually crawling out of a pipe and jump on them. This way is MUCH faster than getting 100 coins : )

There is a best way is in the final world where you find wooden tanks and keep hitting on bullets in a row. YOU´ll get ton of lives in short minutes.

this was my most favorite thing to do in this game, it works loads better with the unlimited flyer p-wing thing. id keep doing this till i ran out of time then id keep doing it till I got 99 lives or whatever the max lives was.

@art11art12 Fridge Logic: Bowser was established as a powerful wizard in the early games. In Mario Galaxy, he obviously has some connections with a few alien species. Maybe Mario dying because of a timer in the earlier games is because of Speedy Comets that Bowser conjures/'borrows' from his contacts. Mario repeatedly kicking his ass may have weakened Bowser's powers/tarnished his reputation enough to mean no more Speedy Comets, and thus no more time limit in later games.

1 - i can store an almost infinite number of games and dont need to change cartridges

2 - i can play wherever i want to without a tv

This is a common trick me and my dad used to get 99 lives, doing this repeatedly drives me insane at times... Anyways, I could get 99 lives via goal card collection, I don't know if I'm quite lucky but there's a technique in getting stars all the time :D...

Its true that this gives infinite lives but i find this would take too long have you considered the infinite lives in world 1-2 with the tubes of goomba's thats faster...this takes about like 10 run throughs and like what 30 mins while the world 1-2 one can be done in 1 run through

The easiest way I found to max out lives in this game is in world 3 level 9. Just take a koopa shell and throw it into the space between the two cannons that shoot bullet bills. If done correctly, the shell will keep hitting the bullet bills and you will eventually keep getting 1 ups. It works on the GBA version also. =)

I did this when I blasted through SMB3 just recently. It was awesome! I got up to 50 men, from about 5. Took me forever, but it was well worth it.

You can get infinate lives on World 1, level 2, with the raccoon, jump on all gumbas coming from the pipes. On World 2, Fortress, three skeleton turtle, jump on them, without landing on the ground, and collect points and lives (must have a raccoon). On World 3 level 9, Grab the first turtle shell, take until where there are bullets flying. Kick the shell, jump on the ledge above it, and as the bullets blow from the cannons, the shell will kill the bullet, giving you points and lives.
