  • Nice unique design , make a few and look up the nearest renaissance festival. I bet you sell out and come home with orders.

  • Very nice!! If you can make a knife of the same design with pattern-welded/damascus steel.....it will rock!!

  • Очень красивый.

  • man now thats a cool knife i collect and id really like to know how to make one or if i could buy one? and what about size? guessing from the railroad rail it was on its about eeh 4 to 5 inches is that about right?

  • @kingkb95 Thank you. Yes I think it was about 5" long. I plan on making some more this summer. I may do an actual video of making one. I will be selling them for $75 a knife. + $25 if you want a sheath. If you want to reserve one let me know, or I should have some for sale when I post the video.

  • @southclaw thats really cool i might just have to buy one haha :D and cool id really like to the the whole process of making one, i make a few knives myself im not very good i just grind them out of a cut piece of metal i dont have a forge

  • очень интересный ножик, вы молодец:-)

  • @denstoyn Thank you. Спасибо ?

  • how can i buy this knife?

  • @vchikh This knife I do not have anymore, but I can make more. email me at southclaw@gmail.com and we can talk.

  • @southclaw respect my friend really nice work can you make one for me and ship it to europe if yes how much will it cost?

  • @BRATKOV47KALASHNIKOV $75 for a knife + $25 if you want a sheath. Send me an email with your address so that I can check how much the shiping would cost. southclaw@gmail.com

  • Not bad. Was this your first attempt?

This kind of knife is called a womans knife and was used by viking women for general knifey tasks :p

My girlfriend has one of these, we got it for 25 bucks from a blacksmith at a mideval fair. he forged it on the day. It was pretty awesome watching him work.

Definately not a sultans knife from Assassins creed.

  • I was looking at your blog, if you ever want to learn how to forge/make knives and about blacksmithing in general I am in N.E. wi and can teach you. You seem to have an interest in it but it looks like you need some instruction.

  • @1overthehillsfaraway Please send me an email, and we can talk.

  • Have a small knife in almost exactly the same style, made by two Danish blacksmiths who visits my town during christmas :D It's a viking-design of a simple knife usually used for skinning prey and such.

  • Sheith looks cheap compared to the knife..

  • @sbjennings99 It was my first sheath.

  • assasins creed 2 so much lol

  • @Themincraftguy This style knife has been around for a long time. It is a Viking style.

  • @southclaw it looks amazing i love it

  • that's like the coolest knife i've ever seen

  • im not lovin' the handle but the blade is quite excellent!

    nice job.

  • so did you blow off the case hardening on the file with the first few hammer blows or heat it enough to deform that into the blade too. I made a nice knife for my father out of a large file, but in the shaping all the case hardened steel flaked and chiped off and the rest I was able to mold by hammer into a nice piece. elk horn grips hand cut and filed into perfect fit. was nice but I could do way better now than my first time effort. if ya want msg me and I could send you a picture

  • Holy shot that first knife was awesome!!

  • they are quite cool. I expected the usual crappy railroad spike knife and now i saw this. I like your design. What steel do you use

  • @poelsemads Thank you. That knife was made out of a hand file.

  • The knife looks kind of Viking inspired.

  • good knife, looks awesome

  • Huh lol did I see you have a piece cut off a railroad track? haha nice one ! must work perfect too.

  • Nice

  • Nice.

  • Dammit... I got lost in the music and had to rewatch this 12 times before I figured out what it's about.

Clockwork orange has changed me o_o

  • @leeham991 Righty Right Right Little Droogy!!

  • was it oil quenched?

  • @roglet123 No this one was quenched in water. I have since gotten some quenching oil. Less lost blades. :-) This was the first knife that i finished.

  • @southclaw first one finished!? thats really nice. im starting to make my own forge, hope i get something as nice as this

  • Cool

  • Wow you made this by hand?! This is very well done

  • I think u shud put paracord on the hand for better grip abd comfort

  • reminds me of the knife from Assassin's Creed 2

  • ok thanks

  • i tried doing this and it turned out differently what stock size did u use?

  • @blacksmither1 I made it out of a file.

  • the knife is it a good throwing knife

  • Do you sell theses?

  • @nephilium67 Yes I do. zechmooredesign.blogspot.com southclaw@gmail.com

  • does anyone know what a good, cheap alternative for an anvil is other than RR tracks or brake drums? thanks in advance, I'm planning on starting metal work now :P

  • @pkcheeze Any big flat chunk of steel you can find, the bigger the better. Some sort of hardend or tool steel would be better, but you could get away with mild steel if it was big enough, for a bit.

  • thats badass

  • that knife is sweet

  • thats like from assassins creed 2 lol awesome!

  • @rbuturla13 If you are going to make comments on videos you should know what you are talking about. First of all, $800 was the price of the other guy’s knife. That was the guy that was advertising on my channel. Secondly you could not forge that knife out in 20 min.. Just goes to show you don’t know what you are talking about. Thirdly that was the first sheath I made. And last of all it is really interesting that you don’t have any videos posted of you forging. :-o

  • holy crap its the sultans knife from assasins creed 2!

  • thats a steep price for a almost worthless knife

  • thats one of the sickest knives ive ever seen

  • very nice work.

I just finished a big bowie I made for an xmas gift for my brother in law.

I tempered it, and did both the paper cut razor test, and also the razor edge abuse test by chopping a 2x4 in half 3 times, and shaved my leg like a gillette razor.

Check my youtube channel if your interested.

I charge 800$ for a bowie\sheath similar to the one I posted in the video on my y outube channel.

  • Music was on the computer... atleast you're honest!

  • Just like the Assassins Creed 2 Knife =)

  • @XDeathRaze777X One of these days I am going to have to play Assassins Creed 2 so that I can see what everyone is talking about.

  • @southclaw just look up on google, assassins creed sultans knife. itll save you alot of headakes

  • @kaldicuct ahh I finnaly saw what everyone is talking about. I could make that!

  • @XDeathRaze777X

HEHE this type of knife is a "woman's knife" from the Iron Age -> Medival Period

  • @XDeathRaze777X i thought that too! lol thats my favorite knife in the game.

  • @XDeathRaze777X HAHAHAHAHAHA! I was thinking the same thing! I want this knife SOOOO BAD! :D

  • How much would you sell a knife like that for???

  • @theUnholySquire I could make a similar one for $100 without a sheath. $25 to $50 for a sheath, depending on how nice you want the sheath. southclaw@gmail.com

Email me and we can talk about it. depending on what you want it could be less.

  • @southclaw What about the patterns?

  • @AshThEpSYcHo patterns? This knife was not pattern welded. What you see on the knife is just hammer marks, left on the knife.

  • @southclaw They look pretty damn cool.

  • @AshThEpSYcHo Thank you.

  • would you be able to get a video of you forge? pls? i love ur vids and the knives you make and want to try, but im looking for ideas on a good forge, thanks ;)

  • @redviolin1231 I don't know when I would be able to. I have been busy. I want to get more videos up as soon as I have time. It is just a propane forge I threw together. More pics of knives at zechmooredesign.blogspot.com

  • oh so sexy. i just want it up me.

  • sultans knife! For the Win

  • just, thats, just,, just, ART!!!!

  • beautiful.

  • I love your work. how long does it generally take you to do something like this?

  • @iamtheraven2011 Maby two days for one like that. I am a little out of practice so my arm may get soar a little sooner. :-D

  • nice improvised anvil

  • if i see right you hav burned the the carbon out of the first knife :/ good work still

  • @poppamies907 Nooo.... I am not sure how you came up with that asumption.

  • @southclaw nah it just looks like that it has some "bubbles" that come when the blade starts sparkling, it just looked like it from this angle but i might be wrong

  • sultans knife!

  • Yes, I think that knife/sword was purposedly forge for military use. I can't see myself cutting the skin of an apple off or use it to julienne the potatoes but I can see it as smashing through thick cow bones...wait, that could be military.

  • how did you swirl the handle?

  • @lifeisdeath99 Heat and twist.

  • i would call it a satan knife NO IM NOT WICKIN I AM A CHRISTIAN I THINK

  • That is one sexy blade my friend

  • Great Work ~

  • cool i love it

  • nice nife

  • where did you get the rr track anvil?

  • @nedge46 someone gave it to me. I have a vulcan anvil now.

  • that is one slick lookin knife! great work!

  • @CmGHaures Thank you.

  • @CmGHaures its the one from assassins creed 2

  • epic handle

  • how much do you charge for one of these? i reall would like to have one

  • @ninjazombie15 I could make a similar one for $100 without a sheath. $25 to $50 for a sheath, depending on how nice you want the sheath. southclaw@gmail.com

  • @southclaw ok send me your email and we might be able to set up a deal

  • @ninjazombie15 it is southclaw@gmail.com

  • i love the idea of that anvil, i want to know, where i can get such a ncie piece of railing, should i chop it off an old out of use rail or is that, illegal ?

  • i belive that this knife was used in the assassins creed2 video game, you can purchase it from a blacksmith and i belive that it is called sultans knife and is from arabia or somthing like that,,,but very good craftsmanship wish i could do somthing like that great work ;) :)

  • does anybody know the name of the song?

  • is there a name for this type of knife

  • @jdog3344 I do not know if it has a name but it is like the knives the Vikings used to use.

  • @jdog3344 it is a sultans knife

  • @jdog3344 From what i've heard, it's called a "Sultan Knife". Though im not sure about the sources.

  • i like your style.... can i have it?

  • @ThePocoamisto No you can not. It was made to order, for someone. I can make you one if you would like to buy one though.

  • @southclaw depends on how much

  • @ThePocoamisto Contact me at southclaw@gmail.com and we can talk about it.

  • that is like a blade from HELL

  • thats more like a short sword/machete

  • Assassins Creed

  • @xAudriee Historical Viking knife.

  • @xAudriee Exactly! Sultans knife from Assassin's Creed 2.

  • iam learning how to forge can u help me tell me wat kind of metal to use plz i already know how to make hooks but i want to make knifes like that one u make

  • @GrimReaper91angel There are all kinds of different metals out there that you can buy. If you are wanting to go a cheap rout you can use Nickelson files or leaf springs. If you are going to go the cheap rout you should do some tests on the metal you are using. Harden and temper a test piece and see how it holds an edge. The leaf springs can be cut with a cutoff wheel, for a more manageable size.

  • Assasins Creed much???

  • @eybooboo No. It was the knife the guy wanted me to make. It is actualy a Viking design.

  • that looks like one from assassins creed 2

  • stupid ugly thing ass

  • very elegant

  • #WARNIG NOOBISH COMMENT#

that looks like one of the knife's from assassin's creed 2

btw i really appreciate the craft/skill i would enjoy having a go sometime in the future

  • i love it,,, that is great

  • Sweet!

  • that knife is awsome. most of these rail spike knives people make on here are total shit.

  • That's really nice. It shows good planning in the handle. The twists stop at the bend, then start again. 5 stars!

  • bull shit you made that from 1 file

  • Yes I did. You should not comment on stuff you don't know about.

  • made a great knife there. good job. 5 stars

  • sweet knife? did you also quench it after shaping? and what did you use as a forge?

btw, congratulations you found two wrong ways of spelling "handle" :)

  • Thank you. I use a gas forge that I built. Yes I know I can't spell.

  • @mrkiky Yes I did quench it. A knife that is not hard is just a chunk of steel.

  • very nice knife if you ask me....

  • hey could u send me a good way to start forging cuase its somting i always wanted to do

  • First thing you have to do is build a forge. Then get a big chunk of steel for an anvil. If you want to practice before you get your forge up and running, I hear that you can practice with clay. Start to gently hit the clay into shape to see how it works and the best way to make it the shape you want.

  • My dad used to use a piece of railroad rail as an anvil when he was 13. now we use a real anvil. cool knives.

  • I got an old anvil that I use now.

  • Southclaw, loved the improvised anvil!

  • @Firenight021 I don't want to be mean, but know what you know and then know what you don't know!!!! Because you don't know what the heck you talking about and I am a member of the Artists, Songwriters, Composers and Publishers....ASCAP Do music police make a lot of money because I was thinking of changing professions. Take Care! Claw you are way more then safe....lol With this song you could add words to it and charge money and still be safe......

  • ASSCAP?

  • really cool. Do you do this for fun? ...or do you sell the blades?

  • Both. The more I sell the more I can make. :-)

  • Very nice, I like the upswept point to the blade, looks like it would be a very good skinner. How long did it take you to forge it out?

  • I don't remember. It has been a long time. It was one of my first knives.

  • LOL I understand, there is also the factor, that with practice, it takes less and less time to do the same thing again. I'd almost bet that if you made a knife almost exactly like it now, you'd do it in half the time. That is how it is with me, used to take me 7 or 8 heats to get something 'right' for drawing a taper or beveling a blade, now I can do it in 3 or 4 heats.

  • Right on.

  • what song

  • good job !

  • nice...

  • Very, very nice blade. The handle looks very well made, and the blade in whole also.

  • that`s what i call daim!! lol good jobe deserv a real prize for that

  • the first knife is a wicked knife. might i ask, how did you bend the handle

  • Heated it up in the forge and bent it around.

  • the first knife was very good

  • im sry but a knife of such beauty needs a better crafted sheath

  • Yes I know. But it was the first sheath that I made. I am getting better at it.

  • Nicely done! What type of steel? Looks like 'patch' knife from colonial US. Again well done.

  • I made it out of a large file. So I don't know what kind of steel lol

  • depends on the file, tough it is most likely high carbon steel, probably holds a good edge, did you quench in oil or water? or did you temper it

  • I quenched it in water.

  • All Most all american files are "W2" tool steel

  • Alot of newer files are being made of O-1 though.

  • This is actualy the song I.C.P. used for the song ''Pass the axe'' I just noticed that.

  • It's an old viking era style knife, a womans-knife. Woman carried it by the belt and used it for pretty much everything.

  • Neat knife. I've made a few similar pieces. Looks like nice clean forging. How long have you been at it?

  • Not very long. That is the second knife that I have finished. First sheath that I have made.

  • Nice job.

I love those type of knives, traditional, rustic and beautiful, all at the same time.

I don't make them that way myself, but I sure like them.

  • apologies, meant to push the thumbs up and pushed wrong icon???This is good comment from C568, he speaks from experience.
