@TSF Clearly, those Phonaks (familiar name - my gf has a Phonak SmartLink) are helping quite a bit - the subtlety of some of these patches requires a sharp ear ;-)
Great patches! I'm anxiously waiting for my Roland D-10 to arrive to experiment with it and my iPad. I've heard the D-10 isn't too impressive on it's own, but coupled with MIDI synths such as NLog Pro and Animoog, or with an effects processor, some amazing sounds can be extracted from it :-)
Btw, if you don't mind me asking, is that a hearing aid or a cochlear implant? My gf has CIs and I'm always amazed at the things she is able to hear (she can recognize Van Halen's "Jump" almost immediately)
@Firepowerforfreedom hi :) Awesome!. Yes I have two hearing aids for a bi-lateral sensory neural HL as a result of ototoxicity. They are Phonak Naida V U.Ps (purple). they are the highest power hearing aids they make in the series. They recommended that I get a CI for my left ear but since a hearing aids helps, I decided against it. the Phonak ones I have now, help me hear 250-3kHz, everything above 3k is 'transposed down' into my better hearing range. :)
@bloozeman101 HI :) On the D-50, I just called it "Random LFO" since the LFO I used to create the varying pitch was set to Random (in the P-Env). Random LFOs also sound awesome when routed to the filter with a high resonance setting. :)
Thanks for sharing! I have a D-550 that's not been used in 10 years. I replaced the bat but as you lost the pre-sets. I need the original patch 18. the "Dyno My Hammond" I'm playing in a Satana band and they don't care for the organ patches on my Technics kn7000. I wish I could find my sound card! Arghhhh
The best thing to use for D-50 and Sysex is "D50 Librarian". I've had great luck with it.
It's free and you can save a complete image of all 64 patches, drop in new sets of 64 or single patches, rearrange, make best of mixes of patches, etc. Virtual PG-1000 too. d50librarian.co.uk
@synthystation Hi :) Yes! I have that editor, its the only computer related program I use with my D-50. So far I have just been able to send patches from D-50 to the editor, and also send a newly created patch to D-50 from the editor using the init patch. The virtual programmer is awesome! I have the real programmer and the virtual one is very good. :)
Great patches! I just recently bought a V-Synth XT on ebay that has the option to boot up into the D-50 and would love to use some of your patches in my music if you decide to export them into SySEX. If you would like to check out my New Age Music just google Cosmo Frequency
@BethPessoa HI :) For the patches on D-50, I just have the patch sheets that I keep records of. I have had no luck with SysEx files so I just do everything the old school way. lol
Hi I am wondering if you could help me find a song, I think its synth, from 80s or 90s. It starts off with this sort of skippy beat, and then bass. The synth sounds like its doing short Ha's .like laughing lol.
Its like Ha HaHaHa HA ha ha HA ha .... HaHaHaHa HA ha HA
and then the bass does this buumm dun buumm dun dun... dundun duunnn dun dun...
I know it's not a good explanation but I think it's a woman who sings in it and I've been loosing my mind looking for it. Any help is appreciated
Just bought an old beat up D-50 I'm hoping to restore to good condition. I found your page looking for original D-50 factory sounds. You play very well and you have a great sense of melody. Thanks for the great video
I decided to see what i could find on the D-50 on youtube and came across your vid. You designed some great patches and you have a unique style to your playing. My hats off to you. Keep it up!
@OJMAH At 4:23-4:50 its supposed to be an organ sound, similar to a Wurli organ. I made this sound by programming simple square wave on both partials (U and L) and then set the value of the chorus unit all the way to 100%, this is the only thing that is causing the "wurli" type modulation going on. Just the chorus unit at 1000 with some square waves. lol It also sounds neat with some reverb added in too.
@OJMAH Hi. :) That sound is actually my attempt at an organ patch. I just set the chorus unit up to 100% and set the waveforms to square waves. It sounds better with some reverb added to it.
Great patches! I particularly love the organ sound at 4:22 - never heard an organ sound like that on the D-50 before. The D-50 is particulary good at organ sounds, as you know. Maybe the best synth i've heard for lush, expressive organ sounds...
GREAT JOB ! the harpe/flute patch is simply wonderful i love it and the way you play it is just magic , it reminds me of a final fantasy type of song à la Nobuo Uematsu ! i have a d50 too and did you know that it probably was the first virtual analog synyh ever ? if you only use the "structure 1" you 'll get the saw and square waveforms wich are not samples but émulations just like today's V.A. do ( but with a lot more of waveforms of corse).
@godslave666999 Coolness. I normally only use structure 1 in both U/L, rarely use PCMs unless I need white noise or something metallic. That is really neat that D-50 is one of the first "V.A" synth. I really like the Access Virus T1, that is a neat synth. But my D-50 is still my fav synth I have ever owned. Its awesome. :)
@synthpathetic Try Holding [DATA TRANSFER],and keep holding press [B LOAD], One is handshake mode and the other is not. Sysex can be flakey in the D50, sometime takes me a few fails before it works.I got MIDIOX to work once but I use SysexD50 now, a free download. I tried emailing the author but got no replies. It tells you which sequence of buttons to use depending if you set Handshake to off or on in the settings of the app. Try someof the D50 Yahoo groups - bank files and apps are in theose.
@synthpathetic Oh, sorry to hear that. I have never loaded any patches from the net. I would like to, but every time I try it the computer never opens the files and it seems impossible to do. Who knows. I just write new patches when ever I need a new sound. Takes me about 2 hours to write a good one. I must be the only person who can't use system exclusive data! LOL Maybe one day I will figure it out. :)
@synthpathetic Sorry to hear that. I wish I could be of more help, but I do not use SysEx. However, the only thing I know about SysEx D-50 procedure is: Set Midi CH. 1. Set Exclusive ON. Hit [DATA TRANSFER], [B LOAD], then [ENTER] The display reads [TURN MEMORY OFF ONCE?], hit [WRITE], again the display reads [ARE YOU SURE?],hit [ENTER]. Use [ENTER] + [DATA TRANSFER] if not successful the first time. This is the only info I have on this subject. Hope it helps. :) TSF
Thank you so much. I love the D-50! I plan on making more patches for it soon. I would love to have a Juno 60 one day, and the awesome Jupiter 8! The sound creation possibilities would just be so much fun. I have a list of synths that I would love to get a hold of. Jupiter 8, Juno 60, Synthex, Matrix 12, Mini Moog, DX-7,..... and many more. I want to use as many synths with different kinds of synthesis as possible in my music. Gotta have those waveforms!! :)
@TSF Just got my D10 today, and it's blowing my mind already... I can only imagine what a D-50 must be capable of :-)
