How do you figure that metallica died with cliff burton? ?Hes defintley the best bassist theyve ever had and one of the best ever. But theyve continued to make msuic 26 years after that...there best albums were with newstead..in order being the black album, master of puppets, kill em all (with cliff). they got inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame..they obviously didnt die with cliff.
@valboski The Black Album was their mainstream sellout album in which they released due to the Thrash sound becoming unpopular amongst metalheads wanting something harder (death metal, black metal), It was not at all good. As for being around for so long, that means nothing. They are selling albums purely off a name they used to have and as far as I'm aware, they're as terrible as all those glam metal bands they hated back in the 80's.
@Machx72 Pfft, the entire band is over rated. I've not often heard of Metallica being referenced individually as an influence for other bands as much as I hear about Slayer or "The Big Four of Thrash Metal" as a whole.
Also, if you think Cliff is a good bassist, you've not heard of many good bands.
@Machx72 You think I don't know bass? According to stereotypes, there is little to know but what I do know for sure a band like Metallica can't possess the world's greatest musicians.
@MorkaGraven Yeah, you obviously don't. Nobody said anything about Metallica being the world's greatest. Cliff changed the way bass (especially in metal) was perceived for a much broader audience, and influenced NUMEROUS big-time musicians who are active nowadays. He took what Geezer and Entwistle started and adapted it to a faster, more complicated form of music, and was brilliant in music theory and adapting it to Thrash.
You don't have to agree if you don't want. But it's a fact.
@MorkaGraven Well at least you admit you know little.
P.S, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett are ranked as the 12th and 26th greatest Metal guitarists of all time, Cliff Burton, Robert Trujilla and Jason Newsted are ranked as the 3rd, 16th and 27th greatest Metal bassists of all time, Lars Ulrich is ranked as 9th on the greatest Metal drummers of all time, you obviously know nothing, about music, go sit in the corner like a good little boy.
@Emothicaol Rankings mean nothing. Those charts are established by tards who wish to increase record sales. The basis of their rankings are often based on popularity. Lars is credited for being innovative with his techniques however Dave Lombardo of Slayer is still much more influential. There are much greater musicians out there beyond Metallica, you just have to find them. Some of them are much more capable too.
@MorkaGraven No, those rankings are based on playing ability and technique, yeah I know there are better than Metallica, but coming on here just to bash people for liking them is pure pathetic, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
@Emothicaol Some metalhead you are. Are we not allowed to express HATRED anymore? Has somebody given us rules and guidelines to follow? Since when should we only say nice things? I think reality is more important than not being offensive.
If you're saying les claypool is the best bassist ever, then you've clearly lost the arguement. Lemmy's style is not for the weak. It's raw and powerful. Now go listen to some nirvana, fag.
so many people say that the Lemmster can't play. Ok, his not the most mellodic guy who ever played the bass. That's not the purpouse of the way he plays either. The sound of his Rick is raw and edgy, and it does'nt need to be more than raw, edgy and LOUD!! Remember that he never had touched a bass when he joined Hawkwind...

yes everything stops for a real solo.. Everyone else leaves the stage but the guitarest. or the drummer for a drum solo etc. Thats when they take a break. get water, booze smoke a joint, take a piss. etc. solo means all by yourself.. not to many bands realy do them anymore. your on u-tube look them up there great. you must be too young to remember.. a real solo does not mean the part in the song where the guitarest shreads or what ever you call it look up a kiss solo, and go tell someo STFU
If you listen to classical music (from which the word "solo" comes), you'd find that many solos have accompaniment.
In jazz, during a solo, many of the instruments drop out, but the drums, bass, and sometimes piano and guitar keep right on going, the vast majority of the time.
ok. whatever, solo means alone. this isnt even close to classical or jazz so it doesnt count. so go back to school and get more music classes in. you tell me is he playing a solo or a fill. Its only Rock and Roll,
respond to that stupid statement. Have you even seen a 1975 Marshall Super bass head? The knob that says Gain on it provides distortion. You know the knob that Lemmy has turned almost all the way up.
Looking at a picture of a 1975 Marshall Super Bass. There is no gain knob. Only "Volume I" and "Volume II". There is no master volume. When cranked up louder than God, you get the distortion because there's no master volume attenuating the preamp's signal before the power amp.
Lemmy doesn't do bass solos. He plays the bass like a rhythm guitar. He even says that in interviews. Ric bass through a 70's Super bass head into Marshall 4x12s with lotsa distortion. Does he do power chords? Yes. Some fills? Yes. Solos? No. John Entwistle, Geddy Lee, and Chris Squire are rock bassists that performed solos. Not Lemmy. Lemmy doesn't need to do solos.
Omg these people commenting are retards Lemmy even said in a interveiw he dont play bass like a bass player he plays it like a deep guitarist thats why he uses a pic to play plus u can play faster with a pic wich tends to help if ur soloing dick heads

OK, lets see here.
GAIN = the ratio of signal OUTPUT
DIST = compress / clip the INPUT signal
FILL = mini solo
Technically - if anyone else is making noise at the same time - its not a solo.
"I've been a bassist and guitarist for 24 years so I know what a solo is"
so what ur saying is, you have 1 years exp, 24 times. WOW!!
