How do you figure that metallica died with cliff burton? ?Hes defintley the best bassist theyve ever had and one of the best ever. But theyve continued to make msuic 26 years after that...there best albums were with newstead..in order being the black album, master of puppets, kill em all (with cliff). they got inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame..they obviously didnt die with cliff.

@valboski The Black Album was their mainstream sellout album in which they released due to the Thrash sound becoming unpopular amongst metalheads wanting something harder (death metal, black metal), It was not at all good. As for being around for so long, that means nothing. They are selling albums purely off a name they used to have and as far as I'm aware, they're as terrible as all those glam metal bands they hated back in the 80's.

Cliff changed the way bass (especially in metal) was perceived for a much broader audience, and influenced NUMEROUS big-time musicians who are active nowadays. He took what Geezer and Entwistle started and adapted it to a faster, more complicated form of music, and was brilliant in music theory and adapting it to Thrash.

@Emothicaol Rankings mean nothing. Those charts are established by tards who wish to increase record sales. The basis of their rankings are often based on popularity. Lars is credited for being innovative with his techniques however Dave Lombardo of Slayer is still much more influential. There are much greater musicians out there beyond Metallica, you just have to find them. Some of them are much more capable too.

If you listen to classical music (from which the word "solo" comes), you'd find that many solos have accompaniment.

In jazz, during a solo, many of the instruments drop out, but the drums, bass, and sometimes piano and guitar keep right on going, the vast majority of the time.

Looking at a picture of a 1975 Marshall Super Bass. There is no gain knob. Only "Volume I" and "Volume II". There is no master volume. When cranked up louder than God, you get the distortion because there's no master volume attenuating the preamp's signal before the power amp.

Lemmy doesn't do bass solos. He plays the bass like a rhythm guitar. He even says that in interviews. Ric bass through a 70's Super bass head into Marshall 4x12s with lotsa distortion. Does he do power chords? Yes. Some fills? Yes. Solos? No. John Entwistle, Geddy Lee, and Chris Squire are rock bassists that performed solos. Not Lemmy. Lemmy doesn't need to do solos.
