@TheChrisTelevision Now think about this for a sec. You have been hiking all day in hot damp hiking boots. You get to camp strip off the boots, damp socs and slip these one. Very comfortable. Do not absorb water (or sweat). Great for drying your feet. And the toes are covered so your feet are still protected. The bonus is the campsite does not get trashed from the aggressive tread on your hiking boots. Leaves less of an impact. So ya ... I agree they look ewww! Not important.
@NecessaryKnowledge They are the best thing for the end of the hike. Really comfortable, water resistant, allow your feet to dry while still keeping them protected. I definitely recommend taking a pair with you. One added bonus is they don't chew up the campsite like hiking boots.
@oneaware Since this video we have been hunting for weight rated carabiners at a reasonable ( close to a dollar) price. So far I have found some aluminum carabiners that are working well for the chair and my hammock. They were close to $5 each. These ones still say "not for climbing" but they are rated for up to 150 lbs and work fine. The dollar store carabiners in the video start to warp if you weigh over 180 lbs but so far have not failed ... yet.
@pcjsleader For a really good back rest we just set this chair up as an Amazing Wilderness Camp Chair. Perfect back support. You should check that idea out. I think you will like it better.
@Jollyprez I wish YouTube would let us thumbs up a comment more than once. We like questions that get us to learn something new. The two knots are very similar. The Prusik Knot has an even number of wraps on both sides of the knot. The Tout-line hitch does not. Add a few more wraps on the tout-line hitch to make it even on both sides and you have got it. Thanks again for a great question.
@EconoChallenge Ah, OK. Hitches I understand - I was a Boy Scout, and remember all the knots and end up using them for 99% of everything I need to this day. That said, I intend to introduce this to the troop. Currently, they haul in those folding canvas / aluminum chairs you get at Walmart. YUCK. When I was a scout, we sat on the ground or on rocks.
@Jollyprez I think the weight savings along should get the troop excited. The ones we carry weigh less than 100 grams and fits in your fanny pack or pocket. I would like to see more boy scouts out in the wilderness. I cut at least 3 to 4 lines down from trees every year left by people that can not get the cluster of half hitches untied!
@RDPproject Glad you liked them. Worth the extra bites! We decided to keep some bloopers as Shug would expect in a response to one of his videos. Mozzies eh? How about the little black flies .... do you have those?
Try wrapping the webbing three times around the tree, and then just loosely spring clip the tag end to the length supporting your hammock. This would keep the metal clip from rubbing or pressing into the tree bark. In climbing, this is called a tension-less hitch, and is used often as a tree anchor.
@EconoChallenge I think I might have to send ya some "SKEET-ADDLE" It's a real SKEETER BEATER...hehe! All naturale' buddy, and Yukon Made of course :o))
I think I have a new Deer stand. That looks more comfy than sitting on tree stumps and a lot warmer. And, certainly better than logging around a folding camp chair. However I would recomend Quick links over spring clips. If you shop around the cost increase far outweighs the safty factor. (nasty bugs: Did you try smudging with Basil?)
Great, thanks now get that bug net over your face. Lol. ;-JJD

Well "Jeep", I certainly like the video. I am only a little hesitant to test over 100 kg. of dense weight on $1 store carabiners, so I'm using steel.

That knot looks like a taut-line hitch to me. What's the difference?
