This Amazing Song--which, of course, Bruce wrote in the wake of 9-11--isn't "just" about that event, its impact and aftermath. Rather, "The Rising" transcends even that great tragedy, because--as is true of all Great Works of Art --The Boss transforms this remarkable work INTO the Very Essence OF Life Itself ! And thus The Rising, I believe, IS the MOST Powerful; Moving: and yes, Life-affirming Anthem in the Entire Canon of Rock Music
Trust a beautiful, shining soul like Mr. Springsteen to turn one of the most brutal, tragic, and sad events in American history into something rare, uplifting, fitting, and spiritually awesome. What better tribute could there be to the 3,000 who died that day ten years ago?
@CrimsonSunsetfire If you listen to ALL his music, it was a hand up for all of America to try to reach out and grab hold of The American Dream. And then to hold on tightly to it because while the dream was guaranteed, keeping it wasn't.
Thank you Lord for putting Bruce in the Garden State. How proud you must be of the most beautiful blossom In The Garden. How can one not love The Jersey Boy?
@draber12 no this was actually in the heyday of pop stars on the VMAs and as u see is less than a year after 9/11 and its in NYC. MTV knew how to work it. Sorry to any pop fans but its not likely any pop star could write a song this stirring with so many emotions that summed up how so many people felt.

Thanks for this video. I was also a teenager who discovered The Boss on my own in the 1990s. A lot of the Springsteen songs that I love were released before I was born, I guess that means they're timeless!
@Category5PHL absolutely. There is nothing or no one who is even close to Springsteen as far as power in his voice, power in his message, raw emotion in his songs, and drawing his audience in to the point they feel as if they are onstage with him. And to think he used to play 6 hour concerts when he started out.
This song is actually my son Kyle's real introduction to the Boss. He loved the song and the CD and I remember him finding the CD and sitting on his floor memorizing the lyrics from the song sheet and singing them. Several years later whehn i took him to see Bruce the Boss threw into the encores and it was real treat for him. There's nothing like this guy, absolutely nothing.
that's exactly how i liked the boss i was about 12 and i saw him on TV liked this song and bought the album. Liked it so started to buy his other albums and they all just kick ass. No parents told me to listen to him just all on my own. Can't wait for the Philadelphia shows.
Me, too! I always knew who Bruce was but didn't get into his music until this album. So, I guess I didn't become a fan until age 32! It doesn't matter when it happens to us, just as long as it does!! :)
this song brings back so much happy memories of back when i was a kid i remember going to see him live in the RDS on the rising tour as i was a kid and basically naive i hated his music until i went to that concert hate him now? not a chance that man is my world 17 now and cant live without his music love working on a dream love bruce geting a replica guitar love bruce hes a ground breakin booty shakin earth quakin viagra takin rock n roll king
