  • That sucks man. But you also have to look at the fact that it's becoming increasingly expensive to maintain these units and some of them have seen many years of action on the railroad.

  • Hey I saw those on June 9th when riding on a train to Seattle

  • Actualy those locos will sit out for 3 months and then if nobody claims them they'll be scraped.

  • It sure is a shame these great "war horses" have been tossed aside and sent to their deaths. I have a video from Pentrex of the MRL system that was filmed in the early 90s and the SD's and GP's just dominated the entire system!!! Now look at them :( They don't deserve this.

  • GREAT VIDEO, I WISH THOSE ENGINES WOULD GO DOWN TO BOISE, IDAHO TO MORRISEN KNUDSEN TO BE REBUILT AND LEASED OUT... I LIVE IN CDA, IDAHO AND I GO OVER TO THE MRL TO GET AWAY FROM THE BNSF AND SEE SOME GOOD OLD EMD`S KICKING ASS ON MAINLINE TRAINS. ID MUCH RATHER SEE AN SD40-2, SD45, F45 ECT THEN THE MRL`S NEW SD70ACE`S, ITS SAD TO SEE THESE GO BUT IM GLAD SOMEONE CAUGHT THESE BEFORE THERE TORCHED. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO *****

  • Doyle, where are you? I sent out the DLMX beacon 4 months ago! hahah

  • Im glad that they wont scrap the Winchester & Western units where i live. GP9's and GP9-M's. 2 MT-4 Alco Slugs one they have fitted with a SW1500 Cab

  • Should be scraping the piece of shit GE locomotives! Thanks for covering this I had no idea MRL was doing this.

  • they should go to NYS&W

  • really , now their just a sd70ace crap railroad.

  • ill have one!!

    wtf lol

  • I'd say I liked it, but it was very sad to watch as a railfan. You did a fine job covering it for us. I appreciate it more than you know. I agree it's a shame these fine units are being scrapped. :-(

  • When I lived in Helena in the mid 90's I was amazed to watch the MRL operate. To see huge consists of SD45's pull out of Helena toward Mullen Pass with a mid train helper and sometimes a rear helper was a site to see. I wish one would be preserved in MRL colors somewhere. There is a Wisconsin Central SD45 at the Illinois Railroad Museum and a former Northern Pacific SD45 is being restored at the Railroad Musuem in Superior but when I think of the MRL I really think of the SD45's. Lot of history!

  • If only i was really rich...

  • Bless me.............

  • I wonder where the horns are going and I'd buy some but I don't know anywhere I can put them if i did.

  • What a waste of units to kill!

  • Are there any units of those types in museums?

  • @thomasrosiefan1 I believe there are, yeah. I know that there are some SD9s and GP9s in museums.

  • @4449steam Where?

  • @thomasrosiefan1 Umm...I'm not sure.

  • When are they going to be moved to Schnitzer Steel for scrapping?

  • @CLietke They've already started to. There were 15 when they first got here, but then there were 11 yesterday.

  • @4449steam Saw them today. Its really sad the MRL is going to scrap them...
