  • Thanks for that . Took car to local Mini garage, after charging me £35.00 to tell me less than i already knew and quoting £1200.to do the job. Found your video and after buying the parts(locking gate and cable)Job done! Thanks!

  • How do you remove the cable motor cover? Anybody know

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this, it saved me a ton of $!!!! I put a small tack weld on the end of both cables, worked great!

    THANKS AGAIN FOR THE VIDEO!!!!!

  • Thanks for the great video! Can you or anyone clarify what happens at 7:55 in this video, where you push the black tabs to disengage the sunroof lock mechanism? I push the tabs and they do not move. I feel very solid resistance. Have used firm force with the palm of my hand and then a mallet. Nada.

Does anyone have any detail info on how to push back the black 'tabs' and disengage the sunroof lock? Did you have any challenges at this step? Thanks for the great information.

  • Thank you- you saved me a fortune. Our 2004 mini1 roof broke. Both cables and the front latch which locks into the windscrn pillar. Rather than welding the cables I bought a repair kit from Mini - 2 cables (pt no M54.34.7.174.761) were £306 GBP, 2 of the metal latches (M54.34.7.174.762) were £128 GBP and a bag of screws etc (M54.34.7.174.762) was £30 GBP. Do exactly as your video but pull the cables out the front and push the new ones back into the guide tubes into the motor. Thanks again!!

  • I purchased my 2005 Mini Convertible S in February of this year (2011). I live in San Diego, and was so excited about the purchase of my "new" convertible. Of course, the convertible top stopped working in April!. I took it to the Mini dealership (of course the car is way out of warranty) and it was going to cost me $2,600 to repair! The passenger side has been stuck open ever since and will not close. Thank you for posting this video, I am going to attempt the repair myself! Thank you Thank you

  • I must commend you on your videos. My friend and I (both engineers but not mini mechanics) watched your repair videos set of 4 and repaired my mini conv sunroof cassette (pulled-out cable). You saved me over $3K and I must thank you for your time and efforts. You will be saving many mini owners thousands and thousands of dollars and aggravation. Thanks again for you help...

  • Hi Friend,

Great video, instructions and the reference to the metal adhesive. I can not thanks you enough. As you can appreciate I had the same issue with my mini your video made the repair easier and I saved me time and a small fortune.

There is one point I would like to add to the repair and that is following the completion of the repair I had to fully open and close the roof to reset roof's movement mechanism, otherwise the roof would not close???

    Anyway thanks again - Guy

  • Sorry forgot to thank you for the great video and effort you went to:)

  • you may have just given me a solution to aproblem most people avoid helping with.

Can you please tell me if the sunroof section of roof operates on a seperate cable?

  • @3373122 Did anyone every get back to you about this? I'm having the same problem

  • Hi I emailed you a few question about the video and I'm hoping you can email me back :D
