  • my hands were dead when i finished the song.

    this MAYBE my hardest song.....

  • This piece gives me headaches, just started out on the second page.. Fucknig rediculus jumps...

  • Im workin' on the end part but Im stuck any advice?

  • Hey, but... that's a fraud! How can I learn this if I only have 2 hands?

  • This piece is rocking. I could make myself cry with it because it’s just that awesome, I can barely play it. It has massive chords that are placed just so that it is okay to include some accidental thumbings. The left hand is insanely hard to grasp in the middle, I wouldn’t dare say I could play it, only show you what notes there are. All in all, this piece is fun to play, hardcore, and tear bringing to listen to.

  • this sounds really similiar to gilels' version. sooo... good job!!!

  • @TehWerewolf

Sorry but you are mistaken, the A you are talking about (actually commenting) IS meant to be an A it is the D major chord, not Bb major

  • you mean op 23 no 5

not op 23 no 3 (look description)

  • Omg there's so many cords o.O

  • This performance is actually the only one that comes anywhere near to Sviatoslav Richter's godlike interpretation. The ending varies somewhat though, but to my surprise I rather liked Philippov's style.

  • I love this! It's amazing!

  • This is a great song, but I personally like the Gilel's interpretation better. The louder part (starting around 0:37) should have more contrasting dynamics and tempo...but that's just my opinion.

  • I got the 55,555th view!

  • the piece is great and i like the vid but it sounds better on organ no offence.

  • The middle section is so beautiful.

  • Wonderful!

  • learned the song year ago and and im young, its beautiful

  • Thanks, I just subscribed to your channel after watching three of your videos :D

  • excellent this is really helpful, thanks :D

  • 3:04 ... perfect

  • great perf by Philippov! Bravo!

  • I love this piece to... pieces. *laughs* I love it so much though!! I would put it on eternal repeat if I could! If I ever tried to play this my hands would probably fall right off...

  • I've seen other videos of yours and they are all really good

    magnificent version of the piece

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • I'm gonna try to learn this, wish me luck!

  • @thetoxicsoul Same :)

  • @thetoxicsoul

    nigga u crazy?

  • @thetoxicsoul I'm right behind you :-)

  • @thetoxicsoul How's it going? :)

  • Who is this guy and why have I never heard of him?

  • @ruanpingshan Rachnmaninoff???????????! or the pianist ? xD cause Rach is a superstar!

  • I've always liked Maxim's playing every since I was 13 and seen him performing in the Leeds competition, and I recently bought the Cliburn DVD 2001, and ever since that I have been a fan!

  • ITT: 3:19 = Starwars Episode 4-6

  • Thanks a lot for upload this divine piece

  • I'm having trouble with the phrasing and pedaling in the un poco meno mosso section of this piece. Any advice?

  • u are pro**

  • Great musician!!!!

  • I am SSSOOOOOO excited to play this song next year, and the tempest by Beethoven!!! I totally agree with theheadshotboss95!!!

  • that one person who disliked this video, probably listens to some loud ass DEATH METAL crap. they should go die in a hole .

  • @theheadshotboss95 It's more likely that the person who disliked this video didn't care for this particular interpretation. This song is very deep and seems to have very many interpretations (I happen to prefer this one to the others I've seen on YouTube).

  • @theheadshotboss95 And it is both shallow and ignorant of you to assume that someone who hates classical music likes death metal, especially considering there are plenty of metal performers who are downright prodigious and write brilliant, often classical-inspired music. You are the one who needs to learn more about music before you go blindly bashing people.

  • @theheadshotboss95 agree but i listen to death metal but i LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEEE rachmaninoff i could die hearing him does that count as good? lol but no i really love this and all kinds of metal (metallica YEAH!)

  • 1 person has herpes in the ears to dislike this beautiful piano genius music!

  • hey guys! I would appreciate if someone could listen and give some comments on my version of this.... just hope i can play this well one day! I am confused to the speed as some people like it fast but it should be alla marcia?? So any comments would be appreciated! Please subscribe if you like my playing

  • fav piece of all time. especially the middle section...perfect!

  • Evgeny Kissin owns this song, but cool sheet music

  • Thank you for putting this up! I learned this prelude years ago, and it gave me tendonitis....ouch! That's what I get for having smaller hands. Anyway, the thing I most love about Rachmaninoff's preludes (this one in particular) is that I really feel like I am listening to a full orchestra, not just a piano.

  • @katdelre how can you tell if you have tendonitis? I'm leaning this piece.

  • @TehWerewolf i have the same problem...!

  • there is a mistake in the sheet ... i have the same one page 2 1st measure 4th beat ^^ the top note of the first 8th should be Bb not A

  • good tension on that famous 'climax' part at the beginning of the 4th page

  • it sounds a little different at the end than i play it, im a little less flowy with the last run ya, more staccato

  • Man, how big were Rachmanioff's hands? I love the ending on how it just ends with all this stuff and last note is G. Great piece of music!

  • In regards to Rachmaninoff's compositions, he was 6'6" with hands in proportion; he was a performer (one of the best-loved) and so his works were difficult for anyone with average-sized hads.

  • so good so well played i want to play this so bad, the middle part is so beautiful, i love g minor, it is the same key as samskeyti by sigur ros

  • i didnt like the pp section with the bass scales when i first heard it. but now that i actually listen to the music instead of just skimming through it i can appreciate the melodies and the poetry of Rachmaninov. it feels like im in a dream world when i close my eyes and listen

  • This is Rach almost at his very best, the pennicle of his ability is not met in this though. A sure must in any real pianists repertoire.

  • This song is absolutely amazing. It was part of the soundtrack to an old Mac game I used to play. It really takes me back.

It is truly a fantastic specimen of classical piano composition.

  • GO RACHManinoFF!!!!!!

    i love you...

why not you ressu your self

and still alive to see your perfomance and your piece

  • i can play this song on the piano

  • its not a song, it doesn't have words:P

  • lol yep its a composition

  • well its not something ur ""supposed"" to be playing at 3 years...and its not something thats encouraged to be played after only 3 years, because while its not too hard, it does require a strong technique.

  • moonlight sonata is so easy

  • not rly...

  • Supposedly it is very hard, but for me it is not the hardest.

  • who cares?

this is a Rachmaninoff song its not moonlight -_-

  • good point, but whato u know, f grade is this, dind out for me, ty.

  • why is it infamous? the third movement of the moonlight sonata is the most beautiful piece Beethoven ever wrote. and i believe flippingfo0l is referring to the first movement, which is easier than the third movement and some of other Beethoven works.

  • I adore this song, I keep it on repeat whenever I listen to it. I think my fingers would fall off if I ever tried to learn this piece. :-p

  • yeah octive after octive hurts after a while doesn't it

  • In H Cramer's version of Dance Macabre I coounted 254 32nd notes strictly on a s octave.

Let me just say this...pain in the ass!!! or well...I guess it would be more like wrists/forearms, but you get my point

  • My hands fell off just yesterday when I memorized the 1st to 2nd page.

  • @jasonextreme how did you type that then?

  • @cynderfella no they wouldn't... give it a try! I thought the same, but it is well within the reach of the intermediate advanced pianist... a REALLY good performance requires virtuosic skill nonetheless, but it's worthy to try it out... btw THIS IS NOT A SONG!

  • @cynderfella Nah i've played the whole piece it's not as bad as you'd think it to be lol

  • If you can play ragtime, the beginning and end is not that hard. You hit so many notes at once, but once your used to that, the rythmn itself is easy enough. Now the middle part is the hardest part of the song, but I've been playing the piano for 3 years now, to me it's not the most complex arrangement of arpeggios and scales. I've seen a lot worse. This song is no harder than fantasie impromptu if your already used to hitting lots of notes at once.

  • Very odd how you say it's no harder than Fantasie Impromptu. I would say this song is easier than Fantasie, but this is a more forceful song which makes it funner to play. Though not difficult, lots of moving up and down the piano.

  • i will learn to play it. Is it hard??

  • As long as you have huge hands and you're good at remembering confusing chords you should be alright. I can barely play the whole song though without going wrong somewhere.

  • I will never be able to play this great song, because my hands aren't huge enough.

  • Mine, too.

But when I don't play it that fast it works.

And having small hands is just a problem at special parts, not at the whole composition.

  • I'm learning this and I have just about all of it down, except I still can't get the part from 0:37 - 0:50. Any tips?

  • I'm not learning this piece yet

but when I have trouble with certain

spots I just play the part I'm having trouble

with slowly until I feel comfortable with it

then start to build up speed.

    hope this helps!

    &good luck!

  • some problems you might get from playing that passage may be that you tend to tense up when playing so many octaves.

I'd do what spikeusa21 said and start slowly and GRADUALLY get faster and make sure you have the fingering down. The idea in that passage is to also bring out the top notes so generally you'll be using your fourth and fifth fingers.

  • you've got to understand the hidden melodies in there.great piece

  • this song is great, i've just learnt it !

  • doesnt look that hard, notes are very repetitive, its just memorizing i guess

  • not the memorizing, it's the communication between the two hands, like in the middle part.

  • some one pray for me so that i play this piece.....

  • Whoooooooo-hooo, i can barely play this freakin' song now...

  • I rlee like this piece! I love it. Just a question: thats Rachmaninov playing himslef? or is it some pianist?

  • I can play this thanks to this video. I couldn't locate it anywhere online and so I printed it from your video. I don't sound anything like this, however. ;)

    Thank you so much!

    (^o^)

  • google free-scores dot com, it's a pretty good site, they've got lots of well known classical music - should save you using youtube videos to get the scores :P

  • whitenoise2, Hey, thanks! But, sometimes free sites make you give them your email address, answer a questionnaire, etc. for advertisers. I'll check it out though.

    Thanks again.

  • No sign up required as far as i know!

I've never had to give them my email address anyway.. :P

  • I really like your way of the sheet music turning pages as the song goes on. I think it really helps me with sightreading (I'm a pianist and a cellist). How long does it take you to make these videos?

  • it takes about 1.5 hours believe it or not. But i do it for the youtube community and because I love classical music!

  • Wow! Well, it's defintely worth it. Now I looove this song!

  • Thank you, dear sir or madam ... you've enriched the YouTube community.

  • @thechopinfan do you think you can put up bach goldbergs.

  • @thechopinfan Keep on it man! you are doing a big thing for piano lovers like myself and I'm sure many more!

  • @thechopinfan Thanks for making this video!!

  • @mayablanca : This composition while it may be a song effectively is not a song as some ignorant (or most) retailers of sheet music migth have it. And, for a pianist or cellist to sustain this misnomer is a shame !

  • Magnificent.

  • Thanks for all your nice comments! I appreciate it.

  • Hi hehe hey could yew please upload the Prelude in E Flat Major, Op. 23, No. 6? thanks!
