  • American culture is generally far louder and more in-your-face than in the UK. American adverts appear cringe-worthily cheesy to people over here, for example. Even ones for big companies look like adverts for children's toys. With a few exceptions from both countries (search for Brand Power adverts, for example... ugh).

For intros to TV shows as well, an overly-militaristic, in-your-face theme might not work so well to keep UK audiences watching.

  • You people have no taste, the other theme is MUCH better.

  • This version is MUCH sexier XD

  • i don't get it... i live in america, but THIS is the theme that i know...

  • @rosworms

look here for the original US version =9ksn92hjgy0

is very militaristic. Tthe UK version is more haunting, more feeling and thought provoking and fits the mood of the show much better

  • I don't think the US version aired... The UK one is the only one I heard on SyFy...

  • Since I saw the series on netflix, I didn't even know there was a "US version". Netflix apparently has the UK intro on it, so this whole time I thought this was the only theme. Oh well... this one is a lot better anyway heh.

  • Im confused...this is the version I hear watching it on Syfy in the US

  • This Is Way Better Then The US Version Sounds Right For The Main Them Of BSG. SO SAY WE ALL

  • Wish this wasn't the case, but from 0:18 - 0:22 all I can hear is: 'I heard it on a radio.'

  • There's no difference to me.

  • Are there any other musical differences between the UK and US show?

  • This version's composer should be Richard Gibbs, why does it say Bear McCreary?

  • @ayakotctc Richard Gibbs composed most of the mini series. Bear McCreary composed 26 of the 30 songs for season one (this song is on the season one soundtrack), so his name went on the season one soundtrack. The image on this video says Bear McCreary because it is the cover of the season one soundtrack

  • Just so everyone knows, the language issue was answered a while back haha. Keep getting people commenting about what language the song's in. Thanks to you all for letting me know anyway!

  • @JediNg135 Someone was talking?

  • I'm sorry but I'm confused. I live in America and this was the song that was on the main title through the whole show.... I did watch it on the scifi channel so I'm not sure what's going on, unless the person got the names mixed up.

  • It's sanskrit, one of the oldest languages.

A little info: Indo-European languages - including English - share a lot of Sanskrit vocabulary and grammar.

  • uk version the best

  • This is my favorite theme. In Hungary, this was the closing title.Every time when I hear this music,I want to see the next episode, the next adventure! This is a perfect closing theme-baleful but hopeful at the same time because of the rhythm of the drums. You want fight almost...

  • ._. I sent this song to a friend and I got as an answer :" Meh I don't like this, I like True Blood's song better!"

That was the most disappointing thing I heard, ever xD

  • Your friend is a frakking toaster.

  • @AkimotoMiharu True Blood intro is good too. But of course, nothing like this

  • The lyrics are:

    Om Bhoor Bhuvah Swaha,

    Tat Savitur Varenyam,

    Bhargo Devasya Deemahi,

    Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodyat:

    In Sanskrit:

    ||ॐ भूर भूव: स्व:|

    |तत् सवितुर्वरेण्यं ।

    |भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि ।

    धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

  • The language is Sanskrit.

    OM bhūr bhuvah svah

    tat savitur varēnyam

    bhargō dēvasya dhīmahi

    dhiyō yō nah pracōdayāt

    (Source: Wikipedia)

  • While I like this song, I kinda liked the US version for the darker feel it had.

  • Love Apollo s2

It's soo much better than the USversion.

The question about the lyrics is good. Is this realy a human language?

  • Yes. It is one of the Indian languages, not sure which.

  • It's Sanskrit probably one the oldest written languages left on Earth. The Rigvedic Sanskrit - of which this is one example - can be dated back to about 1500 BCE, but is probably much much older; some say as much as 6000 years.

  • @JediNg135 It is the Gayatri mantra

  • @jtomos I *know* what it is - I said don't know which language.

  • @JediNg135 Well, why not google it then? It is Sanskrit. :)

  • @JediNg135 Considering how old it is... Maybe even Sanskrit ? Just guessing...

  • @JediNg135

Believe its Sanskirt, the Indian equivalent of Greek/Latin.

  • @JediNg135 - Sanskrit

  • @JediNg135 its hindu

  • @plasm2 Hinduism is a religion, the Indian native language is "Hindi", though there are several variants, and I'm not sure that this is even Hindi at all.

  • @JediNg135 its called - Sanskrit. Its what Hindu scriptures were originally writtten in

  • @JediNg135 it's Sanskrit..sorry for replying after a year!!

  • @JediNg135 It's in Sanskrit. They sang this at my Hindu friend's birthday a while back. Also, wikipedia is your friend.

  • slow the sound down, and u hear her sing battlestar galactica

  • This is my favorite, so much better than the US version. This just has a deeper feel, and reflects the show much better than what the US version does.

  • It sounds like this one is just longer, not any different in any other way, than the US one.

  • onedOLiarDuDE

The US broadcasts had a different main title for Season 1, than what you are used to. From Season 2 onwards they used the same on as the UK broadcast had from Season 1

  • the UK one is better

  • i love this

  • what lyrics are for this song?

  • OM bhūr bhuvah svah

    tat savitur varēnyam

    bhargō dēvasya dhīmahi

    dhiyō yō nah pracōdayāt

This can be translated in many different ways, and one of the possible translations is:

    O earth, atmosphere, heaven:

May we attain that excellent glory of Savitr the God:

So may he stimulate our prayers

    Retrieved

  • This is the "gayatri mantra", considered one of the most sacred mantras in Hinduism. It is a song in praise of the god of the Sun (or aspect of the god of the sun) at his most beautiful and glorious: Sunrise and in particular, Sunset.

Considering the overall theme of the new BSG, rather an appropriate choice (as long as no Hindus were offended, I hope!)
