  • love that Southern Drawl, sweetie

  • Great video! Can I safely prune them in October on long island new York? They bloom - sparely- up to December, something no other rose does here. Pruned them twice this year from 8 feet or so to 5 feet. In full sun they just grow like crazy and are about 7 feet again. But can I cut them in the fall in new York? They are in front of a window, so I'd really like to trim them.

  • So, it is middle of May and I am just now watching this. Can I or should I still do that severe of a prune?

  • @tucker2202 ... No, dont prune like that in May.. but find the tallest 3 stalks and cut them about halfway down.. then take 3 other stalks and prune them about 1/4 down.. just be selective to makesure that the rose still has a nice shape after you are done.. it should produce blooms again in about 6 to 8 weeks.. feed with a 10-10-10..

  • I just bought 2 knock out roses, for the first time, so should i prune them every year?

thanks so much for the great video

  • @LSUTigerMom ... Well, if you prune them 3 times a year, selectively, they are in constant bloom almost! and you wont have to prune them so hard in Feb... They look better when you do a little pruning all along, as they get older...

  • Hey what do u do with those cut out stems? can u give me ? :)

  • This helps.

  • Thanks for letting people they don't cut back roses until early march not November or December.

  • @randelld42 ..You are welcome! Here in Georgia, the KO Rose can still bloom into December sometimes- especially if we are having a mild winter! I just prefer to cut the roses back in early early spring...

  • WOW, that's a huge pruning. Are they still going to bloom that same season?? I'd be afraid!

  • @bek12 ... yes! The Knock Out Rose is an amazing shrub rose. It is very dependable and can handle some severe pruning where some of the other roses cant. It blooms for about 9 months altogether. It keeps on blooming- even after being pruned...

  • @gardenmagik Oh, cool. I have 4 of them myself and they do bloom until it freezes outside. Mine were blooming last November here in Kentucky! I have just never pruned them so far back, but I will next year! One thing worth remembering about these roses--nurseries will tell you they "grow to 6 feet" or whatever, but these suckers will just keep growing! Mine are 12'+ tall and still going!

  • Thank you Melissa. I took a chance & pruned before I saw ur video & proud to say I did just what you did; enjoyed it so much I nearly got carried away..oh dear.

    Bless you.

  • Great Video! I looked at this a couple of times prior to pruning my knockout roses.

  • i watch ur videos just 2 hear ur voice, very soothing,......

  • Can you please show us how to winterize the rose plants and how to mulch them to keep them safe in winter. We brought new roses this year and we dont know how to protect them in winter. We live in dallas, Tx.

  • it's fasciating how you can do that to a living organism and that it regenerates perfectly!

  • ur a knockout rose

love ur vids and pretty face

  • Dragons! Hope you are well... Thanks for the nice comment!

  • I have a question for you gardenmagik. The house I am buying has a few rose bushes on the side of the house. I was wondering, how well do roses transplant if I wanted to dig them out and move them to the back? You think they would die after transplanting? Or would it be better to just leave them and not risk it?

  • @TheBrassHole I transplanted my huge knockout bush. The worst part is getting stuck to death as you move it. Honestly, it almost didn't survive, but I was not as careful as I could have been. By the time I was done, I was frustrated and ready to quit thanks to all the thorns!

  • That was awesome! I have two knockout roses I bought last year, and they have already gotten twice as big as when I bought them. They have to be the easiest roses to grow. Its s pretty also. That was some heavy prunning. I hope I can stand to do it when the time comes.

  • Hey girly! Yeah, these roses can get huge... and im SURE you will be able to prune them heavily (especially when it becomes a "have to" issue)... heehee... good luck! Thanks for writing!

  • nice roses, and nice gloves...i really love these types of roses. 5 stars dude

  • Thanks natgeoteam!

  • nice glove

  • Thanks glvedio !

  • I've never had any luck growing roses. Any tips?

  • You wouldnt have any trouble- the soil needs to be good, but if you start out with the Knock Out rose, you would learn very quickly! Just try it- no luck needed!

  • maybe I'll give them a try - thanks!

  • heheheeee....your so cute! You got in a big hurry there kiddo. lol Love ya!

  • i love you lizbert! so you like the hurry part? heehee

  • Five Stars!!

  • Thank you! i love the stars!

  • wow thats really a big difference!,, so it's ok to go more than a 1/3rd of the plant? I have a big rambler that needs major pruning. thanks for the lesson !

  • Not all plants should be cut back so hard- but the roses usually need some rejuvenation from time to time.. Thank you for commenting!

  • Nice job Great info thanks.

  • Thank you for watching!
