Ok no hate please, but i never really like Twilight. Not cause of how it was written, i mean when i first read it i wanted to cut my own head off; mostly cause i was an angry dark teen who was a stickler for the rules of vampires, how she had describes the vampires reminded me of different types pixies i had read up on a year before. But I have to ask cause I have been pondering this from the beginning, why sparkle??? No sarcasm just pure curiosity.
some writers right for themselves, and other writers write to keep their audience entertained. Meyer writes for herself, obviously. she lost me after i read Breaking Dawn.
she has said she wrote the books for her and she identifies with bella (she is bella). It´s quite creepy and scary. Very shallow and if you have read the books it sound like a bdsm story at times. Bella very often quotes Edward as "he ordered" and she often says "I obeyed". Believe me it is quite present there. Plus she describes how beautiful he is like 9000 times. Also, it´s a not credible love. Her character hadn´t even loved anyone before, how can she know she is truly in love? stupid.
@hallowedbeeddie my only problem with bella y edward is that they got married and had a kid right after high school. and they only knew each other for two weeks before they "fell in love".
@CateTudor besides that which is makes it feel fake, the main problem with twilight (first book) is that there is practicably NO conflict or development for the villains which makes it lack hook. The villains come until almost the end. Most of the book is about how perfect Edward is. It just annoyed me. I completed the books because I was astonished at how unlikable most characters in the books were. I just cant believe people loving or obsessing over these books.
@hallowedbeeddie i can't believe it either. it just seems strange that people love it so much because it has no meaning behind it and no good lessons. really annoying how people claim the books teach abstinance, because Edward y Bella get hitched right away only so Bella can have sex while she's still human. she barely waited. and Edward should know better. he's way older than her and he used her raging teenage hormones to get her to marry him. i didn't find that romantic. i found that low.
Thought I'd watch this interview just to make fair judgment on Stephenie Meyer. Opinion reconfirmed. Pattinson was right. This is just her disturbing sex fantasy poured into an agonizingly long series. Poor trees. Nothing wrong with writing and creativity. Something's wrong with getting it published and promoted though....as an American I have to say I'm embarrassed and disappointed by our support of such writing as New York Times bestselling...it reflects badly upon our image as a nation.
She's not really a crappy writer, it's the story that sucks. I didn't feel any emotion reading those books or watching those films, and I used to be a fan before Twilight hit mainstream. It comes to show that I was only obsessed with the glitz and glamor. Despite it all, I met Stephanie Meyer in a booksigning, and I have to say, she was actually a really sweet person. And as an everyday mom, she has good advice on starting a book. But DONT follow her example on WHAT to write or HOW to write one
Nobody can say she isnt talented. There is a certain amount of luck that goes hand in hand with success. But she tapped into a story that so many people relate to whether it is well written or not is not the point. Its a story that people love. And she said it in the interview, she didn't write for an audience she wrote for herself. And because she is such an ordinary person people were able to relate to her characters and her story. I think she is talented, and I am not even a huge twilight fan
I'm not saying that she isn't allowed to write her books. But OFCOURSE is she a terrible writer: Her writing style is poor, her fantasies are childish and her characters are the most stereotypical characters you can imagine while writing a clishé-filled story about love.
I'm not angry about her success, even though I can't stand the books, I would never ever get mad at her because she is trying to follow her dreams.
I don't understand why so many people hate on stephenie/twilight, no one said you had to love twilight you have every right to hate it, but for those of us who do like it give us some peace so we can enjoy our fanticies :)
Everyone who's arguing that she's written a good story needs to read some Northrop Frye or John Gardner. She has not written a good story. She has not written a story that will advance literature as an art form. Everyone also needs to know that THIS IS OKAY. You know what? I enjoyed the new Transformers movies. I thought they were fun. But I would never mistake them for good cinematography. Not everything that you enjoy has to be hailed as good, and not everything that's terrible is unenjoyable.
All ethereal and breathy for some reason, like Liv Tyler in Lord of the Rings... though I'm not entirely sure why. She sounds... well very aware. Hmm!
Stories. Completely made up, or inspired by reality, created by free will, by own interest, by the extreme fascination and freedom of breaking every single rule. A good story doesn't need a well build up sentence. That's a WELL written story. A GOOD story on the other hand, may just be a personal fantasy on paper. Some people love tension, love. Even though I don't read her books, I relate to the story of Jacob and Bella. That's emotional to me, and once you involve emotion - you got a crowd.
@zugarpies Where do you relate? The part where Jacob sexually assults Bella or the part where Jacob emotionally abuses Bella into making out with him by threating to kill himself if she doesn't?
And talk about a lazy writer. No research. WTF? I happen to be learning what it takes to be an author. And getting off your ass to research a myth, fable, and then decide what you're going to do with the information. I agree that she sullied the reputation of vampires, but if you're writing fiction it is up to the writer themselves whether or not you're going to stay true to certain fables or stories. The vamp myth was around before Bram Stoker. And has been changed drastically over the years.
I have no qualms of the woman herself. But after (trying) to read her books at age 16, yes I WAS the target audience, I honestly thought wow. The books I read in primary (elementary) school were more complex than this. I think she was just an amateur who got lucky. She has potential, she just needs to work on her word building. An author who ignores the nuances of the English language in favor of a big word is not a good one. But it is a common rookie mistake. cont
i like very much the stephane mayer because she is one write very good as jk rowlinng, the novels her do very sucess here on the brazil, but i no like her. because the novels her speak above vapire. end this is not is good the peoples end to god. meu nome é geovane e eu sou do brasil. kissesfor all.
haters will hate but that doesn't mean that you know she that little thought into her stories. I mean yeah she got her plot in a dream. But that doesn't mean she put little thought into it....
In great writing every word is important. An author will use one word over another for the connotation it brings. It almost never ends well when a author writes with out a plot. Not resurrecting on the subject of your novel will prevent it from being realistic. Even if it is fantasy it still must make sense and have an explanation for the unreal elements, which is often magic; for, if there is not it is no longer is fantasy it is nonsense.
I really love Stephanie Meyer and the Twilight books, and i had also read all the Harry Potter books. But the twiligt saga is denfently my favorite books!
Why is everyone hating? Let her write! There are no boundaries. Yeah, she prolly did get lucky with her success, but that doesn't make her terrible writer. What rules are there? She's just letting her creativity speak through paper.
@YouCanJustPretend This is the best comment. Unleash creativity. You don't have to be a Shakespeare Scholar to write something fun and interesting. Is it jealousy or ignorance.Do something creative with your spare time haters!
@YouCanJustPretend No, actually her utterly horrific writing makes her a terrible writer... frankly I've read fan fiction that is better than her dreck.
@Jayjen35 Actually I WOULD classify her work as fanfiction...of the worst kind. Well, props for having the gall to continue this ridiculous story for four epic novels - but really. If this were a fanfiction story I stumbled upon, I might read it and "like" it if I was in the mood for some good ol' cliche fluff and drama. But it most definitely would not make my top favs.
You're right, it's not her luck that makes her a terrible writer. It's her sledgehammer foreshadowing, her misuse of every type of punctuation, and her infatuation with the overtly creepy that makes her a terrible writer. All types of creativity have room for criticism, but Meyer takes mistakes to a new level.
@YouCanJustPretend Yeah, but she's a terrible writer nonetheless and there are plenty of rules in writing (i.e. grammar, proper understanding of symbolism, metaphors, etc. and you have to have an actual message to your story). You can't just write down a fantasy and call it great literature.
Twilight was horribly written, plain said, but I hear she has gotten better at writing, so I am happy that she can write to be happy (: Good for her if she likes to do it.
To all those who've stated that Stephenie Meyer can't write for shit, either because they don't understand the storyline, they worship Stephen King or because of the vampires in the story having granite for skin.
1. You're probably not the target audience.
2. One writers opinion is no more of a fact than any common infant debating on Shakespeare and his work.
3. A Vampire is no more a fairy just for having granite in his skin, than a wizard is just for having a wand in his hand.
@MattRuaneBlog I dislike her work because her linguistics are quite horrid. No I am not in the target audience but I do follow the saying don't knock it till you try it. Yes I do like Stephen King but compared to Edgar Allen Poe and Aye Rand he's not that great. The "sparkling" I found it unique but strange to say the least. The other thing I disliked was the characters, I found Edward to be controlling, manipulative and abusive which annoyed me quite a bit.
@nirvanak1234 Well I'm glad that you're a mature person on the subject, becuase it just gets annoying talking to trollers constantly. You say that you dislike the characters right? But who else other than Edward and Bella are you referring too? Whatabout Carlisle he's a good bloke?
@MattRuaneBlog Carlisle was a good character, I chose those two because they were the main protagonists and where the story focused on, to go through each character would take far too long. I'm also not going to hate and Twilight just because King did and because other people say it's crap. I personally disliked it because of the linguistics of it but if you like it then fair game. Where she got the idea if also good why not write a book on a dream she had? I'm also glad you did your research.
@MattRuaneBlog No problem mate =) I just try and be fair, if I like or dislike something I want to give a valid reason, I just dislike people hating on something without people even reading it or trying it.
@nirvanak1234 Though a similarity between you, me, and Stephenie is we do like the same music atleast. Finally if people just want me to say something in her defense, she did create her own world out of an EXP of her own (the dream). JK Rowling went to University in Exeter where I live to study French for 7 yrs and got all her inspiration from her time here (Diagon alley's based on Gandy Street). JRR Tolkien did it on an entire life of thrills. But even Darren Shans stories are pure fantasy-
@MattRuaneBlog Belle, I wish she died when she almost got run over, all she did was complain about everything. She most difficult character I have ever come across. It seemed as though she cared for no-one but Edward. The way she fell in love with him was stupid, you don't fall for someone if you have only just met them and mainly if they stare at you that's just creepy and every girl would back off.
@nirvanak1234 Don't get me wrong I understand why people find Bella to be difficult to understand, and why they don't like her. Whereas although I do understand her as just like my first girlfriend, to me it's just a difficult concept for even the best of writers to understand. I like Stephen King too, but I hate it when he just like others states his mind like its a fact, it's all just opinion that matters. I'm all for people having an opinion, but it's no more a fact no matter how many agree.
It's me,me,me,me isn't it Meyer? And little to no research? You are such a Lazy ass! Many writers had to do research! J.K Rowling did it! J.R.R Tolkien did it! Stephen King did it! Many writers do research! Your writings aren't wonderful Literuture! It's all poorly written glorified fanfiction!
I will defend any writer who loved doing what they did. If she enjoyed writing it, who is everyone else to tell people that Twilight is good or bad? Some people don't like it, some people do. Simple as that. There is no call or rational reason for degrading her in such a nonsensical way.
@nerdyspec15 Now I agree that if you like doing it then do it and by doing so you can improve. However, criticism is very important because that's one of the best ways to improve by saying what is wrong with it. I don't believe in criticism that isn't constructive. The one thing that annoyed me with this video is when she said that she did no research, that's like setting a novel in France and not going or knowing the French culture; it may piss a few French people off.
@DZN15 I dont like justin beiber at all and you dont see me going around posting hateful comments and videos I respect that he has a right to sing his music just as stephanie has a right to write her books. The solution? I dont listen to his music therefore you solution is the same, DON'T READ THE DAMN BOOKS! there all your problems are solved.
@DZN15 HA! THAT MIGHT BE THE FUNNIEST THING IVE HEARD FROM A HATER! but seriously that 'petition' will get you no where because as long as there are people who still like twilight and the author believes its good enough to be in the public then its not gonna be 'banned' their not doing anything illegal, they're not hurting anybody. if the books were a disgrace dont you think they wouldnt have ever been published.
Did any of you listen to her? SHE CREATED HER OWN WORLD!!!! She's INSPIRATIONAL! She did it for herself and personally I think the Twilight books are VERY well written.
@nerdyspec15 I think her books are poorly written, she didn't create a world, just copied the most cliched stuff, like soap operas. As S.King Said, her books only talk about the importance of having a boyfriend. Even the the corniest thing she thinks she created like shining vampires, she copied from Tolkien's luminescent elves. I don't see anything positive in her books.
I think she's a poor writer, but in her defense, she never had practice before that. Many published authors spend years and years pouring over novels and stories that will never be published because they're rubbish. This woman got lucky and got her first crap novel published.
Also, stop comparing her to Rowling. Two different people and stories.
OH MY GOD PEOPLE SHUT UP, GET A LIFE, IF U HATE IT SO MUCH LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have any of you read any of her other books? Did you know that twilight was her first book and she has wanted to make massive improvements since? so I ask you all once again to BEAT IT!
@TheHayster16 its called freedom of speech. if people dislike Meyer and say that she is a shit writer, then thats ok because they have the right to. personally,i think Meyer cant write for shit, her books are even worse than the movies. i have read all the books, so i have the write to say what i feel is right. Meyer is shit
@mkahmed89 Maybe you have the right but that doesnt mean you have to spread your hatefullness to people who actually enjoy twilight, and seriously why the crap are you watching this if you hate stephanie meyer? have no life?
@TheHayster16 i dont hate Meyer. i just think she cant write for shit. its my right and everyone elses right to share their opinion about anything. i am watching this vid because i was wondering what sort of Q's Time was going to ask her. i was interested in that. btw i do have a nice life, so the fact that u had to play the "have no life" card shows that u are weak at debating and possess a relatively immature mind. please think before u speak, otherwise u will continue to sound like an idiot.
@mkahmed89 Fine, if you do have a life I don't know why you would spend time watching an interview with an author you dont even like. But If you ask me Its kinda stupid that you would, considering you dont like the series. Wouldnt you rather rather watch a different Time interview about a different author speak about their books? You would think that the people that watch this are people who respect Meyer and her fantastic series and want to hear what she has to say.
@mkahmed89 Its people like you that make people who like twilight feel ashamed of it. Twilight was a huge box office success and the twilight saga is a new york times bestseller. So it would appear she can write for shit because professional book critics obviously thought so. If you don't like the books fine i don't have a problem but like I said That series was her first and shes written other books that I personally loved, and so have a lot of twilight haters.
@mkahmed89 So I probably do have an immature mind considering im a 12 year old girl, but you should really think about these things before you start calling stephanie meyer a shit writer....and me an idiot. now if youll excuse me Im gonna go reread Breaking dawn
@TheHayster16 i am sorry, but i did thinkt about it long and hard before i called Meyer a shit writer. anyways, have fun reading Breaking Dawn, and i apologise if i offended u in any way since that was not my intention. i just wanted to convey the fact that people are independent and they have a right to voice their opinions. thats it. farewell
@mkahmed89 I totally understand that u can express your opinons. I have no problem with that but Your opinion is a little strong. I just get a bit fustrated. anyway it doesnt matter, she will keep writing and haters will keep hating. what are ya gonna do?
@BeBeAyumiReturns seems like jealousy 2 me (you could have said u don't like it and gave your reason instead of a pointless and brief statement) but who cares if she can't write, she was doing this as a hobby anyway before she got accepted PLUS people love her books obviously EVEN movies, maybe you just care too much and that goes for the other 26 thumbs...for the record i've never watched the movies or read any of the books so you can't judge me as a fan either
how can you write about vampires, and you haven't even seen a single vampire movie in your life, nor did you do research on them? that boggled me. 0.O
if you don't like scary stuff then why are you trying to write about scary creatures? and you seriously dissappointed me with your Breaking Dawn Book. wtf were you thinking? i'm not a fan anymore. and you hate gays because you only donate money to anti- gay organizations at your church.
@FunAssFunProductions I think her boooks are absolutly (I know I spelled it wrong) amazing, And I enjoy her books so deeply. Not trying to be mean or anything, but wha'd she ever do to you to be calling her insane? And you can say anything u want back to me. Mean comments cursing I dont care; your just a hater.
@Family4233 Robert doesn't even like Edward. he flat out made fun of him in one interview. i forgot the name he called him. i think it was pansy or something like that.
Stephanie Meyer doesn't know the difference between love and super crazy unhealthy obsession. She just lied too because the book does have a message to teenage girls and women in general that they can never live a a real life unless she has a strong, independent man in her life to take care of her. Which pretty much makes her the most un-feminist writer I've ever known.
She's just some MILF who wrote a book. The comments seem pretty harsh, I think people should be seperating the 'art' from the 'artist'. There's no need to hate her. But I can really see how her thoughts differ from mine as a writer. I try to balance what I write with what I think people will like, I think it's important to gauge other people's opinions. And I think all artists should have something to say. She's not a writer to me, but that's not shit talk. She's just some chick who got paid.
although I haven't read the series,I read part of twilight &followed the plot (+ watching eclipse). It is badly written and has no real message behind it. The main struggle is that Bella wants to be a vampire so she can be with Edward but he doesn't want to turn her. And even this problem isn't properly resolved since the only reason he makes her one is to save her life. that's like as if HP had ended with voldemort tripping over a stone and dying by accident. it's a plain cheesy love story.
She's put so little thought into her story. She's said there are no messages. Yeah, you bet there aren't. The books are very shallow and the characters are very one-dimensional. Look at the JK Rowling interviews and just see how much thought she's placed into every single thing. Stephenie Meyer just got lucky. JK Rowling worked her ass off and she's now, and will always be, the most loved author in the world.
@Vantrilokist I very much disagree that Stephanie Meyer puts little thought into her stories. I find the books very charming, intelligent, and quite sensitive to the human emotion. I can tell your a Harry Potter fan and so am I, but I favor Twilight more. There is no reason to belittle authors and their success. She deserves just as much credit as JK Rowling does with creating an entirely new world for readers today and years to come.
@Vantrilokist No. She won't be the most loved author of all time. Ever heard of Shakespeare, Dickens, Lawrence? Rowling is no where near as good as them.
I've never ever hit the dislike button. This deserved it.
I cringed inwardly when she said she only did research on vampires when Bella did in the book for the sake of seeing what Bella would find.
And you shouldn't have so many of your "fans" demanding that you make an alternate ending. I thought the ending was terrible, and I'm entitled to my own opinion, as is everyone else, but you don't want people rewriting a story because it sucks, you want fan-fiction because they liked it.
@MissShembre I haven't read any of the Twilight books, and I don't plan on doing so unless I get really bored and curious, but I don't think it's such an awful thing in this case that she didn't research vampires before writing, or rather, that she didn't conform to the norms of the lore. If you're writing fantasy then there is really no reason why you need to conform unless it actually detracts from the plausibility of your story... just my opinion.
@Noellenc Yes, I agree that originality is priceless. There's nothing wrong with that at all. :)
It was how Meyer stated it that bothered me when her story has such poor prose and how her main character does not achieve anything for 4 books except her 1 goal, which is to become a vampire, and she doesn't even do that herself- she has her friends do it only because she would've died otherwise. Anything would have helped Meyer, vampire research or not. It just was the icing on the crap cake.
@MissShembre Yeah, she seems a little aloof. She only writes for herself? I think I know what she means by that deep down, which is fine, but she could be a little gentler about it. She strikes me as a flash in the pan, but you never know, she might have success with another series just because of Twilight. Either way, I think the whole premise of Twilight is juvenile. Edward is creepy, who would actually WANT to be turned into a vampire that badly, and why is she so obsessed with doing it ASAP?

Like anyone (except the fans), could and would believe that she didn't read ANYTHING about vampires before writing. 1st of all it is impossible ... anyone who thinks a little, realizes that. And we all know that we dream about things we have thought about, have seen, have read, heard of and anything like that...so she couldn't dream without doing this. It's just...come on?
I personally don't like twilight, but for the right reasons. Romance, is disgusting, and this is coming from both an 18 and 12 year old girl. My little sister and I both read the books, and agreed they were complete shit. Bella, is the most annoying female character. Weak, love-sick and just plain annoying. And she needs her oh-so-amazing, hot and strong boyfriend to save her all the time. Those books, to me, do not have a real message and point behind them, like HG and HP. Why bother read them?
Stop writing about Pedophile vampires and if u r even gonna write about them at least respect the myth not make sparkly, over emotional, pussy vampires
If she wanted her Vampires not to be stereotypical then she could have been original and named them something other then vampires. She could have come up with her own species that happens to drink blood! Maybe some people wouldnt have liked the similarities to vampires but at least she wouldnt have been completely destroying the vampire name.
@Nat1433 Oh really? I wanna hear about this lol! I'm an author-in-training, but I try my hardest to not write shit. It's hard, because sometimes, it gets really messy....
@thegirlwhohatesrap I bet anything you write is 10000000X better than twilight. As long as you have an outline and plot and don't have too many cliches and a story that will grab readers attention you should do fine. Write something that YOU would read, if it sounds too cheezy or just weird to you, imagine how others will analyze what you've written. (: Hope that helps! ^^
'You're missing out on things if you go right to sex' ... If i remember correctly Bella got married at 18 or so. That way she probably missed out on more things than ifshe just had sex with Edward and broke up with him at one point.
Thumbs up if you think Joss Whedon the created of Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel and Anne Rice the writer of The Vampire Chronicles should beat the shit out of her
she sucks, team J.K.

That's emotional to me, and once you involve emotion - you got a crowd.

randomaussiegurl1 2 months ago
And talk about a lazy writer. No research. WTF? I happen to be learning what it takes to be an author. And getting off your ass to research a myth, fable, and then decide what you're going to do with the information. I agree that she sullied the reputation of vampires, but if you're writing fiction it is up to the writer themselves whether or not you're going to stay true to certain fables or stories. The vamp myth was around before Bram Stoker. And has been changed drastically over the years.
randomaussiegurl1 2 months ago
I have no qualms of the woman herself. But after (trying) to read her books at age 16, yes I WAS the target audience, I honestly thought wow. The books I read in primary (elementary) school were more complex than this. I think she was just an amateur who got lucky. She has potential, she just needs to work on her word building. An author who ignores the nuances of the English language in favor of a big word is not a good one. But it is a common rookie mistake. cont

Mallecool 2 months ago
Why is everyone hating? Let her write! There are no boundaries. Yeah, she prolly did get lucky with her success, but that doesn't make her terrible writer. What rules are there? She's just letting her creativity speak through paper.
YouCanJustPretend 2 months ago 7
@YouCanJustPretend This is the best comment. Unleash creativity. You don't have to be a Shakespeare Scholar to write something fun and interesting. Is it jealousy or ignorance.Do something creative with your spare time haters!

SuperCulby 1 month ago
@Jayjen35 Actually I WOULD classify her work as fanfiction...of the worst kind. Well, props for having the gall to continue this ridiculous story for four epic novels - but really. If this were a fanfiction story I stumbled upon, I might read it and "like" it if I was in the mood for some good ol' cliche fluff and drama. But it most definitely would not make my top favs.
viinalay05 1 month ago 4
You're right, it's not her luck that makes her a terrible writer. It's her sledgehammer foreshadowing, her misuse of every type of punctuation, and her infatuation with the overtly creepy that makes her a terrible writer. All types of creativity have room for criticism, but Meyer takes mistakes to a new level.
LalaMore1234 1 month ago
@YouCanJustPretend Yeah, but she's a terrible writer nonetheless and there are plenty of rules in writing (i.e. grammar, proper understanding of symbolism, metaphors, etc. and you have to have an actual message to your story). You can't just write down a fantasy and call it great literature.
FantasmaLuna 2 weeks ago
@YouCanJustPretend You call Twilight creativity? I'm not a hater and I've seen all the movies... they are depressing, not creative.

Twilight was horribly written, plain said, but I hear she has gotten better at writing, so I am happy that she can write to be happy (: Good for her if she likes to do it.
AOKable 2 months ago
To all those who've stated that Stephenie Meyer can't write for shit, either because they don't understand the storyline, they worship Stephen King or because of the vampires in the story having granite for skin.
1. You're probably not the target audience.
2. One writers opinion is no more of a fact than any common infant debating on Shakespeare and his work.
3. A Vampire is no more a fairy just for having granite in his skin, than a wizard is just for having a wand in his hand.
MattRuaneBlog 2 months ago
@MattRuaneBlog I dislike her work because her linguistics are quite horrid. No I am not in the target audience but I do follow the saying don't knock it till you try it. Yes I do like Stephen King but compared to Edgar Allen Poe and Aye Rand he's not that great. The "sparkling" I found it unique but strange to say the least. The other thing I disliked was the characters, I found Edward to be controlling, manipulative and abusive which annoyed me quite a bit.
nirvanak1234 2 months ago
@nirvanak1234 Well I'm glad that you're a mature person on the subject, becuase it just gets annoying talking to trollers constantly. You say that you dislike the characters right? But who else other than Edward and Bella are you referring too? Whatabout Carlisle he's a good bloke?
MattRuaneBlog 2 months ago
@MattRuaneBlog Carlisle was a good character, I chose those two because they were the main protagonists and where the story focused on, to go through each character would take far too long. I'm also not going to hate and Twilight just because King did and because other people say it's crap. I personally disliked it because of the linguistics of it but if you like it then fair game. Where she got the idea if also good why not write a book on a dream she had? I'm also glad you did your research.

But even Darren Shans stories are pure fantasy-
MattRuaneBlog 2 months ago
@nirvanak1234 But still do the job well coz that's all they are fantasies.
MattRuaneBlog 2 months ago
@MattRuaneBlog Belle, I wish she died when she almost got run over, all she did was complain about everything. She most difficult character I have ever come across. It seemed as though she cared for no-one but Edward. The way she fell in love with him was stupid, you don't fall for someone if you have only just met them and mainly if they stare at you that's just creepy and every girl would back off.
nirvanak1234 2 months ago
@nirvanak1234 Don't get me wrong I understand why people find Bella to be difficult to understand, and why they don't like her. Whereas although I do understand her as just like my first girlfriend, to me it's just a difficult concept for even the best of writers to understand. I like Stephen King too, but I hate it when he just like others states his mind like its a fact, it's all just opinion that matters. I'm all for people having an opinion, but it's no more a fact no matter how many agree.
MattRuaneBlog 2 months ago

However, criticism is very important because that's one of the best ways to improve by saying what is wrong with it. I don't believe in criticism that isn't constructive. The one thing that annoyed me with this video is when she said that she did no research, that's like setting a novel in France and not going or knowing the French culture; it may piss a few French people off.

@DZN15 HA! TheHayster16 2 months ago
Did any of you listen to her? SHE CREATED HER OWN WORLD!!!! She's INSPIRATIONAL! She did it for herself and personally I think the Twilight books are VERY well written.
nerdyspec15 2 months ago
@nerdyspec15 I think her books are poorly written, she didn't create a world, just copied the most cliched stuff, like soap operas. As S.King Said, her books only talk about the importance of having a boyfriend. Even the the corniest thing she thinks she created like shining vampires, she copied from Tolkien's luminescent elves. I don't see anything positive in her books.
TheIsabel7 2 months ago
I think she's a poor writer, but in her defense, she never had practice before that. Many published authors spend years and years pouring over novels and stories that will never be published because they're rubbish. This woman got lucky and got her first crap novel published.
Also, stop comparing her to Rowling. Two different people and stories.

mkahmed89 2 months ago
@mkahmed89 Fine, if you do have a life I don't know why you would spend time watching an interview with an author you dont even like. But If you ask me Its kinda stupid that you would, considering you dont like the series. Wouldnt you rather rather watch a different Time interview about a different author speak about their books? You would think that the people that watch this are people who respect Meyer and her fantastic series and want to hear what she has to say.
TheHayster16 2 months ago
@mkahmed89 Its people like you that make people who like twilight feel ashamed of it. Twilight was a huge box office success and the twilight saga is a new york times bestseller. Stephanie Meyer doesn't know the difference between love and super crazy unhealthy obsession. She just lied too because the book does have a message to teenage girls and women in general that they can never live a a real life unless she has a strong, independent man in her life to take care of her. Which pretty much makes her the most un-feminist writer I've ever known.
markisonlin3 3 months ago

And even this problem isn't properly resolved since the only reason he makes her one is to save her life. that's like as if HP had ended with voldemort tripping over a stone and dying by accident. it's a plain cheesy love story.
munstergirl25 4 months ago
She's put so little thought into her story. She's said there are no messages. Yeah, you bet there aren't. The books are very shallow and the characters are very one-dimensional. Look at the JK Rowling interviews and just see how much thought she's placed into every single thing. Stephenie Meyer just got lucky. JK Rowling worked her ass off and she's now, and will always be, the most loved author in the world.
Vantrilokist 4 months ago 16
@Vantrilokist I very much disagree that Stephanie Meyer puts little thought into her stories. I find the books very charming, intelligent, and quite sensitive to the human emotion. I can tell your a Harry Potter fan and so am I, but I favor Twilight more. There is no reason to belittle authors and their success. She deserves just as much credit as JK Rowling does with creating an entirely new world for readers today and years to come.

MissShembre 4 months ago
@MissShembre I haven't read any of the Twilight books, and I don't plan on doing so unless I get really bored and curious, but I don't think it's such an awful thing in this case that she didn't research vampires before writing, or rather, that she didn't conform to the norms of the lore. If you're writing fantasy then there is really no reason why you need to conform unless it actually detracts from the plausibility of your story... just my opinion.
Noellenc 4 months ago
@Noellenc Yes, I agree that originality is priceless. There's nothing wrong with that at all. :)
It was how Meyer stated it that bothered me when her story has such poor prose and how her main character does not achieve anything for 4 books except her 1 goal, which is to become a vampire, and she doesn't even do that herself- she has her friends do it only because she would've died otherwise. Anything would have helped Meyer, vampire research or not. It just was the icing on the crap cake.
MissShembre 4 months ago
@MissShembre Yeah, she seems a little aloof. She only writes for herself? I think I know what she means by that deep down, which is fine, but she could be a little gentler about it. She strikes me as a flash in the pan, but you never know, she might have success with another series just because of Twilight. Either way, I think the whole premise of Twilight is juvenile. Edward is creepy, who would actually WANT to be turned into a vampire that badly, and why is she so obsessed with doing it ASAP?
