I love the little riff he plays on the sarod between 0:29 and 0:34 it sounds so beautiful I can just keep listenin to that one part all day and not get bored of it
The man is a genius. I know people do slate him. But the only way I can see it is jealousy.
He has brains far beyond the capacity of anyone I know and he is so humble with it!
I saw him in Edinburgh, his shoe broke and he decided to have a full blown conversation with it on stage. Ad lib has had a new meaning for me since then...
I saw the sarod player Soumik Datta at the Barbican as part of the London Jazz Festival with tabla, guitar, bass and saxaphone players. The band was called Samay and they were amazing!
Bill Bailey's instrument is an electric sitar , basically an electric guitar with a sitar-style bridge and 13 resonator strings (you can see them at the top of the guitar body if you watch closely). The body is hollow to help the resonance. It is what the '60s bands used for sitar sounds. He is definitely not using any effects. (I know this because I have one of these instruments myself - it's fab!)
The other guy is playing a 'Sarod', his name is Soumik Datta. Absolute genius!

It's good but not a match when comparing to the Duelling Banjos from the film you mention. Enjoyable all the same.

i want that sitar guitar
azariah316 2 years ago
its more effects pedals than the actual guitar (if it is bill baileys guitar you're on about not the indian mans)
jawide626 2 years ago
A guitar store that i go to had one of these guitars, i played it and it had sitar written all over it. it sounds just like a sitar
azariah316 2 years ago
oh fair enough, it just seemed to be more a case of effects pedals to me.
my bad!
jawide626 2 years ago
I'd doubt it, he's playing an electric sitar as opposed to a regular guitar. That thing makes a sitar noise on its own.
