  • It must be the lonliest place on earth out there by yourself with a gale running.

    You are a brave soul.

I notice how a junk rig does a reef. You just drop the sail a bit.

  • Hi Roger. I really fancy buying a corribee after watching your inspirational videos, i have an Arden 4 as well at the moment. What is the benefit of a bilge keel over a mono keel in your opinion? Regards, Raymie.

  • The obvious - ability to sail in shallower water and dry out upright.

The less obvious - shallower draft means less risk of capsize when hit by a big sea (you just get pushed sideways rather than tripping over a deep keel), better motion downwind (in fact generally a more sedate and relaxed motion), stronger hull thanks to two sets of heavier lay-up at the turn of the bilge to take the keels.

Downside is perhaps less efficient close-hauled, but in oceanic conditions this is irrelevant.

  • Brilliant vid! Celtic sea is directly south of myself - I'm based in Waterford, Ireland.

I'm planning on buying a Mk2 or Mk3 Corribee soon, (just need to sell my shetland 535) and get some more sailing lessons.

Any tips or things I should know before I buy? Keep up the good work with the videos :)

  • Check build quality carefully - very uneven for Corribees. Also wide variations in the quality and inset of ballast. For bermudans the mastbeams are now deteriorating. Linings now at the end of their useful life. Buy one with a rudder skeg and. for my money, bilge keels. Hope this helps. Also try joining the yahoo corribee/coromandel forum.

  • that blue ! those wavese - that's one awesome adventure - and thank you a ton for sharing those sights with us !

  • what kind of video camera are you using?

    do you have a housing?

    terrific stuff, thanks so much.

  • Just an ordinary Sony Handycam. No housing. For this year I had a better mike and a wide angle lens and filters, but it's all very basic. Glad you enjoyed the videos.

  • Looks like an excellent little boat and a fine sail. Your experience shows, because you relish this scene rather than seeing it as uncomfortable or frightening, as somebody like me might. But you also demonstrate respect for this eternally moving environment.
