i thought for an infielders glove you want a shallow pocket? im getting a new infielders glove, i play shortstop and 2b, do you think i should do your method?
dude, this feels great! i catch and my heart of the hide had a huge problem with not having a deep enough pocket and tended to be uneven. i worked the glove alot and it still somewhat had that issue. i did this, and the pocket is insane and keeps the pocket deep and glove sides even! i wont switch back from now on! thanks bro!
okay im 16 and never played baseball before but all my friends say i have a crazy arm and all the adults around me say i throw atleast 85, i wanna tryout for a travel team or highschool but i dont have a glove to use all i have is a teeball mitt from when i was a kid and im broke my mom said she would buy one in september but i want to practice til than how do i get a good cheap glove?
That "trick" is only for outfielders and some third basemen. This is not used in middle infielders because for a middle infielder you want a quick release of the ball and you dont want that big of a pocket.
Great great advice, totally feels awkward at first but you get so much more strength and leverage when you're shutting the glove closed around a ball, pocket is significantly deeper, everyone should try this
i know everyone probably says this but i figured out that this was best way to use the glove by myself when i was ten years old. but the reason i did was because i broke my pinky and had a hard time closing the glove. so i slid ring finger in there and never looked back
I think it's a must for outfielders really it helped me a lot also was taught that by a team mate! Also don't bend the thumb and pinky parts of the glove to much best to keep them stiff nothing worse than a floppy glove :)
Thats what i do, and i love da sound it makes when it hits my pocket when im playin catch , i been doin this for amonth, but i dont do it in da infield, only out
@kottonmouthking236 hey i play baseball im a catcher and i no u might not believe me but wat ev... having two in the pinky helps the in feilders get a much quicker transition because the pocket is bigger u dont need to close ur glove as much just giude it in with ur other hand will ur in the process of giuding it in ur glove grabe ur grip and throw it... idk if that helped u its easer to tell wen u watch someone.
You are a RIOT! Somehow while providing a great tip you had my gut hurting the entire time. It was something like John C. Reilly, and Will Ferrell combined!
@BoXbReAkEr5123 Try it, even if you are just playing catch. It's gonna feel weird at first, but I promise it makes a big difference in the end. I love it!
I'm glad someone finally made a video of this! My dad taught me how to catch this way since day one and it does wonders on your gloves pocket and break in time on new gloves.
@GeraldQuarles Yeh, that's a great point, it does really help forming a nice pocket when you are breaking in a new glove. It seems (to me) like it works faster too (on a new glove). What do you think?
thanks. this rely works for me! i liked!

I use the last two slots in the glove leaving the middle two finger slots empty. Deep pocket nun the less. Good tip.

@kottonmouthking236 infielders shouldnt need a deeper pocket, you should never have the ball in your glove long enough to hold it there. pshh rookie

@badgerhockey99 loosen up the pinky ties. They are usually the big laces on the outside of the pinky finger hole.

cool idea. never thought of that and theres plenty of room in the pinky slot of most gloves to do it.

Also, you can flare (bend backwards) the pinky and thumb sides of the glove to shape it more like an infielder's glove.
nycbobo322 1 year ago
@nycbobo322 Yes, kind of like the glove with the red laces I did a video on. You can see that one has a pretty good "infielders shape" to it.
