The bit in the vid around 3:50 to 4:05 just shows what the man was all about...a fith gear opposite lock slide in to 6th then looking for another gear when he was flat out....no words can describe the skill, comitment and sheer balls the man had. RIP Colin. I'm very lucky to have seen your like because we will never see it again
@boxer8929 compare c.mcrae and s.loeb just like compare between a.senna and m.schumacher. to see which one is good you should look at the record championship. in this case i can say that s.loeb was better than c.mcrae just like m.schumacher was better than a.senna. there is no other way to explanation. c.mcrae only win 1 world championship and compare to the people who win 6 time world championship? LOL.
@ripper269 If you only pay attention to statistics, then you're missing 90% of what defines a great driver. Loeb had no real competition in the same way Schumacher didn't in his Ferrari years (2000-2004), while McRae/Senna not only didn't always have the best car and still managed to win, but also had 5x tougher competition. But sure, stick to your numbers if you think they prove anything, lol.
@ripper269 that's the thing - statistics do not define who the best driver is. Ask 217 F1 drivers (former and present) who voted F1's best driver ever and it was hardly based on statistics. Statistics are a good measure for certain skills, but they're far from showing the full picture about someone's ability and characteristics. Accepting statistics as the one and only true measure of skill is what one would choose when he/she refuses to see beyond.
@hristoitchov i think statistic can define which is the best driver. the driver who has win championship, they not only need a skill. it require consistency, bravery, fast respond, strong mentality, instinct, and so many thing. i didn't see a luck factor in any of driver championship. every driver in f1 and wrc they're lucky but for driver championship i didn't see any luck as factor for win. like i said the statistic is very important to see which is better driver based on action on the track.
@ripper269 What statistics show is who is more consistent, who had better equipment, who had more luck. Statistics are important, but if you don't see beyond statistics you're not seeing the full picture. I.e. someone wins a race and you hear about it - does it reveal to you anything about how that win came to be and how the race unfolded? No, it doesn't.
@ripper269 The point is that Colin was always fighting till the end. Whether he was winning or losing, you always knew that he'll push car more than 100% instead of calculating is it worth to do this. There was no calculations in his driving style. Everything or nothing... That costed him a lot of possible victories including World Championship, when he rolled in last event of season. But this also made him one of the best and most memorable drivers ever. If in doubt - flat out! RIP Colin.
@boxer8929 i don't think so. s.loeb win 6 world champion at straight while the other rivals have the same technology. this is about the skill driving not car.. c.mcrae was good i know that. but compare with s.loeb he just nothing. did you see the result in italy the last race? who's win?
