You can't check these complaints out - they atre not edited or checked for anything - you could make one up and put it in about your own car - the only thing you can find out is if there is a recall on the same car for the same issue - if there is you can then get documents detailing what it is about etc
To activate the brake override you have to have the foot on the brake and the gas have the gas pressed to about 50% - just touching it lightly wont activate it
You know what? who's recording their driving.. It's a computer glitch....!!!!!
Statistic shows since the 2002 Toyota changes to drive by wire(digital), its complaints sky rocketed.. Car's on board computer is not capable of detecting computer glitch whatever the glitch was..
It's like my Ipod.. Screen goes blur then comes right back.. There's no way I could show it to Apple store.. !!!!
Want to learn here? You're statistics are from NHTSA complaint analyzed buy TV station fed to you - Anybody from anywhere can make a complaint lie about it and it becomes part of the official record. Check my latest video. Still don't believe? Make a complaint yourself - Then and only then will you know you've been had my friend.
Toyota lies cover up,fraud pay offs, shame on the government ours and theirs. Fools would only support this company. Come out of the fog you can trust consumers reports like you can trust toyota for decades they have lied.
So basically your stance is "I'm in denial, it's all a big conspiracy, drivers error, prove it to me, blah blah blah".
So we're down to trusting the NHTSA, the networks, etc. who say this is real, or a Youtube user with a webcam concerned about the plummeting resale of his Toyota... gee, what a tough choice.
@pcsario People have died because of SUA - and until people like you learn to read scientific reports like Sussman and Pollard ignorance will rule society instead of factual information
@pcsario Your really up on your cars aren't you? The cars in my videos are mine - ones a Chrysler 300C and the other is a Jeep GC. No I don't own a Toyota or work for them - something I state in one of the videos. - I hope your not a detective - your powers of observation are less than spectacular.
bg1379 - Can you read? He said "If a problem exists" I have the SD Police report on the Saylor crash newbie do you?- did you know the officer owned an IS250 with push button start? - what they didn't mention that on Fox? - Did you know he did pull it over then started off again? Do you know how long the highway was? Your smart for 19 but your no mechanic or expert so just leave it to the grown ups for now.
bg1379 - Can you read? This is just ridiculous- you want people who are driving in their cars to be ready with a camera for the once-in-a-blue-moon occurrence of a car's pedal acting up? Are you mad?! Not only is it irresponsible to suggest this to Toyota owners, it is ludicrous to even think that someone who has lost control and may crash can or should be videoing it.
I'm asking technicians and other people - not everyone is having a crash and that is ridiculous to suggest it. Try geting your news from other sources besides Fox or CNN - the Toyota COO Lentz stated today "If there is a Problem" when asked about the sticky pedals. The truth of it is NOBODY has investigated these complaints. Even Dr Gilbert hasn't seen or examined a real example - I'll give you $1000 if you can show me valid proof that a Toyota gas pedal caused an accident. What are you doing?
Your argument is flawed. Based on facts, there have been 2600 accidents related to the pedal, out of probably 50,000,000 cars. So, again, the chances of one of the tested Toyotas being one of the ones where the flaw has shown itself is 0.000052%- simple math.
Also, I find it hilarious and incredibly ignorant that you would say "don't get your news from CNN or Fox" and go on to say that you get yours from a Toyota executive!
2600 complaints you mean - none of them investigated by a real mechanic - show me a valid one and I'll give you $1000 if not you give me $1000- or is your mouth bigger than your wallet. Keep watching - you can't convict without evidence of a real defective part - You don't know your own history - google Kristi Bradosky - or George Weller - both cried their eyes out - both cars had no problems I've got the reports - care to see them?
If there have been 2600 accidents, surely somebody can get a pedal from one of these wrecked cars. If its not working right, its worth at least $1000. Mark will give you that if its really a defective pedal.
If you can produce a defective pedal, the networks would probably pay even more. I'm sure it costs them more than $1000 for an 'expert' to rig up a working pedal to make it stick on full throttle.
I've not heard of anybody actually having a defective pedal to show the world. Is there one?
Yeah, this crap is getting out of hand. Saw a ABC video where they made it sound like the President of Toyota was hiding or something. "And we HAD to track him down in Switzerland" And why was here there? Because he was at a meeting. Then they show him getting into an Audi making it seem like he doesn't drive his own cars. But those Audi's were lent to those delegats at the meeting.
The problem is an electronic problem. A weak magnetic pulse from cell phone or road sensor will cause full throttle effect.
The hall effect sensor picks up magnetic road sensor pulse. Take a magnet and place it near your gas pedal and see what happens. There is a magnetic strip inside that sits in front of the sensor. The void is where they magnetize the tapered metal strips. The metal part they are putting in looks like it will shield the hall effect sensor.
Reading some of the reports by owners whom have experience an acceleration problem it appears to be an intermittent problem, and you know how difficult those are to diagnose. You can't fix what is not acting up. I would imagine it is even harder to record a video of the event happening as well as the event would surely be camera shy too ;)
Its the Audi 5000 all over again - The Toyotas are all automatics, none are manual, after the crash each car responds perfectly and the drivers are all very convincing - years later solid behavioral scientists (not car guys) prove through deceptive testing that the people where convinced their feet where on the brake when in fact the camera showed their feet on the gas - science wins every time with me -
I actually investigated an SUA case around 1999 - The car was an automatic, worked perfectly seconds after the accident, couldn't find anything wron, couldn't duplicate the problem during testing, owner very convincing and sincere - these cases are so much like the Audi it scares me.
This seems like a computer and or [engineering] gas-line issue.
This is what happens when you get too big and your research and development is not focused on innovation but copying European competitors who spend in average 3 times more in R & D/Safety.
Don't play with your life, spend the extra $ for peace of mind.
Dude your cynicism is sickening... Most cars on the road have one person in the car in 80 % of the time or more, that's why there's only one HOV lane in a 5 lane highway and it's usually empty. Now, imagine you're in one of these cars alone and you're on the highway dong 60 mph or more... and boom you car starts accelerating, do you really think you're going to be scrambling for your phone and trying to make a video or try to de-escalate the issue.
@valon18 Turn your ipod off and listen up Jr - I'm suggesting that you will never be able to get a video of this since its human error - not the car that is at fault - my challange is to the major networks that keep blaming the car and scaring people
Mark you talk about the Audi 5000 story, and you're right about it. It was a made up fiasco. There was also the story about the saddle tanks on 1973-87 Chevy trucks. The media could not get one to explode on impact, so they put on a gas cap that didn't fit, and leaked. Then they attached some little rockets to ignite the gas that leaked.
I'm not sure the media could prove the problem, if it actually exists. They can decide on a conclusion, and arrange the facts to fit it.
I'm thinking Toyota may just be guessing at the problem. As you say, we need some cars to examine that have displayed the problem. Its hard to believe that nobody can come up with a car for examination.
How can Toyota be so sure what he problem is, without cars to prove it. Is there a legitimate concern? Is Toyota looking for a scapegoat in CTS? If a problem does exist, is Toyota just guessing at its cause?
Moisture and temprature extremes are under the hood, not in the passenger compartment.
I can't believe they can't show a defective car or pedal - if it was millions of people accused of robbing a bank they'd have one in custody to have a look at.
In the GM saddle tanks case they could have tried harder faulty test method I guess- its just faster to fake it.
