I remember listening to a bootleg of what might have been this very show back in 1993, or 1994? Eddie's vamping of the song came right back to me in watching this video. Unless he did something similar each time they played it. :)
@DrinkTillYouWantMe Yes, you don't need to play it exactly as the original, I preferr covers that add new things to existent songs, but this one seems like if they played it unwillingly. It seems they didn't even practice it once, Vedder started improvising with the lyrics (with poor results) and the band didn't know the structure of the song, besides sounding horrible. Poor cover for me.
@Helmut83 Well I think what had happend is they would jam it every once in a while. And tried it that night and it just didnt go good. I have heard much better versions of them playing this but its hard to cover the beatles you know? lol
@mikehowton707 Yes, I heard it a while ago, I think it was a much best cover than this one wasn't it? At least I don't remember it as being a bad one.
@mikehowton707 Well, come on. It was just Eddie Vedder with a guitar, it was nothing special. I bet if it wasn't him you wouldn't be saying that. You will find dozens of better covers of that song on youtube.
People sy Dave is "over playing" , but IMO he's adding beats and crashes where no one else could possibly think of doing or much less attempt and still keep that cool smoothness he's able to do. He's great! I miss him with this band but life goes on. I'm still a big fan and I think Matt Cameron is doing a great job . Long live PJ!!!!
They were great at the grunge/alternative genre. But PJ had a lot more depth than we originally thought back in 91/92. . Goes to show one reason they've lasted so long.
@StraightPunkEdge93 Some people said Dave always overplayed. But in my opinion this is the great thing about his playing: It's very present, lots of variation and creativity there. Just gives a cool vibe to every song
finally i found what i was looking for for s many years.. i got this song in a very old bootleg called "freeland".. i just loved this song when i heard the record..thanks for posted this...
@thissucks159 haha, i'm a big pearl jam fan and i got to agree. also vedder totally botched the lyrics at 1:27. he totally mumbled half of it.
it Eddie's defense it's a VERY hard song to play AND sing. and i bet the probably didn't rehears it all that much either. they just kinda threw it in there for fun.
Ain't no substitute for the real thing. The Beatles' version is so damn much better. This is a decent cover, but it just ain't no subbing for the real thing.
I used to have this Den Haag import and in my youth I didn't take care of shit like I should have...it's gone now but it was a freaking amazing CD...I was about 16-ish when Alive came out...changed my life
eres un genio Eddie!!! saludos desde Perú!!!

@mikehowton707 Yes, I know, the cases where a Beatles cover is better than the original are extremely rare. Probably it happened like you say.

Butchered. Vedder's voice does this song no justice just watch the roof top performance by the beatles that's all you need.

Pearl Jam is pretty cool and they do a nice jam here, but you're right. There's just no substitute for the real thing. The Beatles will always rock.
