@tubedougz I think if even Ian Paisley, can sign the good friday agreement with sinn fein and put the past behind them, then you can to. Years have past since Ireland was under British rule, don't blame a whole nation and it's population, for somethng the majority of people would now deplore and be disgusted by, don't blame a generation for its predessors.
We used to have the annoying beep on ABC in Australia, then we upgraded to music. Now the TV station doesn't even close down for the night. That's how cool we are!!!
I remember it on most of the stations in Australia. It wasn't until the mid-late 80s that the ABC started 24hr broadcasting. Rage was the show on the weekends which started the whole 24hr broadcast.
i remember when RTE 2 (back then) would not start till about 17.00 OMG!!! how time have changhed i am 32, live at three the angelus, anything goes, sat morning, wanderly wagon, judge, i now laugh at what my parnets say those were the days....
I think the Irish are teaching the East Timorese how to build and run an Irish hospital , a reformatory school and a church that wants for eternal subsctiptions. Fianna Fail and Opus Dei know the secret of these things......! Would any sane person wish either on their worst enemy?
Crumbs yes! Bosco and Dempsey's Den. The RTE testcard also yielded Thelma Mansfield and Derek Davis for their afternoon's magazine show on RTE 1. Memories is all you have when you are old!
If you want to know anything about RTE, write to the Vatican. RTE is the most devoted national broadcasting station to the will and welfare of the Roman Catholic Faith triumphant in Ireland and around the world. East Timore now has a special place in its constitution to Catholicism and our Fianna Fail Minister Ahern has offered them a version of our Angelus to keep the people on their knees.
Since you haven't descended -- as yet -- into personal abuse (so common with your countrymen), let me say that there is no such thing , socially speaking, as 'godless anarchy'. If you want to talk about anarchists, you had better be prepared to talk Proudhon, etc., if you want godlessness, then talk Carotta and Atwill. All are honourable company, if you don't live in a pulpit!
I used to live in an area of Gwynedd, Wales that could clearly receive both RTE channels from the UHF transmitter on 3 Rock Mountain in Wicklow. I always remember back in the early 90s, RTE1's daytime test card G transmission was always accompanied on audio with RTE Radio 1 (rest in peace 567khz) and Network 2 (as it was called then) by, rather appropriately 2fm.
That's why De Valera wanted to make Michael Collins look like a fool for signing away the North, because he didn't believe there's a God and Michael Collins did? That's probably why the Catholic church lost it's grip on Ireland because it started to deteriorate towards the Devil?
DeValera was a communist that's why he was talking to Hitler during WW2-Hitler was too that's why he had a partnership with Stalin. The Pope's teenage years were marred by a regime that didn't believe there's a God-communist.
I downloaded a poor quality screen shot from the Internet and used my photosuite to enhance the image. I then used Windows Movie Maker to add the music tracks. Test Card complete!
If you look at YouTube test cards made from old VCR tapes, the quality isn't as good as this recreated example.
I have attempted to make it as correct as possible!
Minus the diddley-dee Irish folk, quite likely. The Philips Test Card was defaultly used all over the world. Either that or the famous BBC Test Card F, featuring Carole Hersee. Check out more of my Test Cards by visiting my YouTube account!
No - I made this one using my computer. I downloaded a poor quality screen-shot and used my Photosuite to enhance it. The music is off a Stockton's Wing CD. Fair cop!
Was this an actual recording of the RTE testcard, or was it just a series of stills put together, cos it seems like the quality is too high for it to be coming from VHS ^^
I recognise the first piece of music behind this test card...It is the Irish folk group STOCKTON'S WING with a track called 'The Trip to London'. Will check out name of second track (if I have it) and come back to you. Yes, there are a few TV anoraks out there as well. Ciao!!
Jaysus! Dat's a fekkin dangerous ting entirely. Sure, I know a guy who use to watch de carrrtoon on de aul RTE and he ended up mad about fekkin football - which is only ting in loyf dat's worse than the carrtoons on aul RTE and Bosco! Holly muther O'God!
Gaye Byrne's Late Late Show was ACE. It's crap without him. Glenroe was cool. They showed DALLAS well ahead of the BBC. American stuff aired on RTE far before it did in the UK. RTE had it's good points really.
Ohh dear. There aren't that many parts of Ireland that I haven't visited at some point or other. I can imagine that someone could miss Ireland but if you like your telly - would you miss RTE?
What a nice comment - thank you. I live on the westernmost coast of North Wales, a place surrounded by hills and mountains. This geology and gerography meant that on occasion, the only TV channels that we could receive with any degree of clarity was RTE 1 & 2. The pictures zoomed accross the Irish Sea from Wicklow's Kippure transmitter on an undisturbed trek to my specially erected RTE aerial. Memories indeed!
kronamalasa again. north Wales you say. We got Teledu Cymru from Noth Wales in Dublin. I was always delighted when Iris Jones would say "Nos Dah da boche" and add "Oiche Mhait". I kinda felt she was talking right to me. She and Ivor Roberts were great continuity announcers.
Yes - I get emotional when I see a test card too. I get a lot of comments relating the testcards to better days - of olde. I guess we were all younger then, so they were bound to be better days really. I wonder if bringing testcards back would revitalise any of us?
I had a tremendous crush on that girl when I was a kid! I used to kiss her monochrosme face on my Dad's ITT KB dual band TV - I loved the smell of hot bakelite! Bet it's more cellulite these days?!
I remember even as late as 1996 that feckin test card would be on the screen on Network 2 until about lunch time on weekends. They'd just put 2FM on for the audio.
I just love the Irish variation on the over used "F" expletive! Larry Gogan on the Test Card - COOL! Larry and Gerry Ryan are the best radio presenters anywhgere on Earth. You Irish are truly blessed! Erm... naturally..I remember that too - coupled with pages from AERTEL!
The only people in Eire that had condoms were the Phoenix Park Cycling Club - they cleverly disguised condoms as puncture repair kits! Good days for me though, I travelled from Belfast with a boot full of condoms - sold them in Dublin for huge profit.

And of course that ray of sunshine lurking behind the Friday Testcard was Gay Byrne's MAGIC Late Late Show. What ever happened to proper TV broadcasting?...
p45roG - HA! I like your comment - and - isn't it funny - you'r not the ONLY one to suggest that I have too much 'leisure' time on my hands. Good harmless fun though. RTE had to make a programme called "The Pure Drop" to fill the folk music vaccum that the testcard sequences left behind!
This one is a re-creation that I have put together. I even made the testcard on my Photosuite system - enhanced from a downloaded testcard picture. I am going to put another testcard online which will depict shabby 405 VHF testcards from the 70's. this type was broadcast in the late 70 and right through into the 80's before Thelma Mansfield, Derek Davis, Bosco and Aertel started to infiltrate RTE testcard territory!
Ha!! I like your comment. If you look into some of my other videos - you'll get to see the evil gonk as well as the scary child! You'll have to ask yourself - what is REALLY the best thing - a testcard (which is of some use at least) or poor quality afternoon TV laced with repeats? . . .
This bloody thing was the bane of my life when I was little ha ha
Transmission begins with emmerdale farm at three!! three p.m.!!!

Ha hahahhaha!
I haven't watched RTE for years, It seems to have become a kind of BBC/ITV clone.
It used to be a bit of a comedy of errors - but I loved it for its relaxed and informal nature.
Gay Byrne WAS The Late Late Show. I never enjoyed the work of his successor.

Don't take this the wrong way, but
you should label this as fake, as viewers might think that it is actually real.
Maybe you should do the same also for your BBC testcard attempts. There is no merit to these videos at all. All they do is confuse people.

p45roG - HA! I like your comment - and - isn't it funny - you'r not the ONLY one to suggest that I have too much 'leisure' time on my hands. Good harmless fun though. RTE had to make a programme called "The Pure Drop" to fill the folk music vaccum that the testcard sequences left behind!

When exactly was this broadcast from?

What date is this broadcast from? Would it be the late 70s by any chance?

This one is a re-creation that I have put together. I even made the testcard on my Photosuite system - enhanced from a downloaded testcard picture. I am going to put another testcard online which will depict shabby 405 VHF testcards from the 70's. this type was broadcast in the late 70 and right through into the 80's before Thelma Mansfield, Derek Davis, Bosco and Aertel started to infiltrate RTE testcard territory!

Oh yes! Glory days indeed. And not an evil eyed child or scary clown in sight. God, I miss this testcard so much.

Ha!! I like your comment. If you look into some of my other videos - you'll get to see the evil gonk as well as the scary child! You'll have to ask yourself - what is REALLY the best thing - a testcard (which is of some use at least) or poor quality afternoon TV laced with repeats? . . .
