Great song and movie. The Thing is the best movie... not the best Carpenter, the best of all times, including the soundtrack. But I love this ost too... I'm looking for the song of the now extinct John Carpenter myspace forum, that was great, very similar to this theme.

Lots of things gave Escape From New York a big presence.  First and foremost, seeing mighty New York effectively portrayed as a dead city; dark, silent, still, the total opposite of what she is. Second, the complete, absolute absence of established government, law and order. Third, the insurmountable "me against the world" odds that Plisskin faces; now cap all of that with this creepy, synthesized musical score and the whole thing really turns your skin. Very well done.
