I like both film versions. They're different time period renditions. This one is much more modern and sort of Rock-looking, sort of like American Idiot meets Jesus Christ Superstar, and the 1973 is more of a Hair meets JCS.
ok um they didn't have guns in jerusalem at that time. seriously people you can do better than this. new costumes and props please. id sure appreciate it more
All of the people that leave in disgust makes this scene very good. It is also what happened in real life when the zealots realized that jesus had no intent on liberating judea from rome, at least not through force.
This is the greatest musical ever written, I think. I apoöogize for my english, it´s not my native language. i think it´s based on a VERY good story and a fantastic composer. Just as good as Verdi, Mozart and other great opera composers.
I saw the show live and then saw the '73 version followed my this one all in the span of a couple of days and this one will always win out for me. The casting was wonderful, the talent, incomprehensable. It may seem over dramatic to people who are used to films but that because it's treated as a stage show... what it really is. Quite honestly... where this one makes me cry the '73 version had me laughing...
Why do it again? The 1973-version was perfect! This is, in my humble opinion, a sad try. Even the Dutch Volendam-version, partly performed by amateurs, is much better.
Supposed to be a new remake in the works, with Ted Neeley involved in some way. That was the word in 2008, anyway.
This version is interesting, but I frankly prefer the cast of the 1973 version. I dunno, this one strikes me as too...melodramatic, almost? And Glenn Carter is, ahem, a bit too pretty IMO to play Christ. It's still good, with a talented cast--but I grew up with the original. Maybe that just makes me biased, but hey.
The film in the Israeli desert from the 70s along with seeing Phantom at the Curran were a large part of why I got into theatre. It's hard to see it in a way other than the classic I fell in love with, but I give much respect to the talent and the inspiration that went into this version.
Yeah, the best version is the original soundtrack from 1970...
In my opinion.

It´s symbolic. Kind off. JCS tend to be made with a bunch of symbolism and modern day references usually.
aguyyaknow 8 months ago
@ThePhantomlover123 JC Superstar is meant to have anachronisms. Its part of the storytelling. You'll see them if you watch the 1973 version too.
RayeMellyrn 8 months ago
@ThePhantomlover123 ... It's supposed to be modern. That's just how the musical is. Do your research.

Glenn Carter is Gorgeous as Jesus. He was my first viewing of Jesus Christ Superstar and I loved it. I was 10yrs old when I watched this dvd.
