@wavepsychic It very nearly didn't. Features on the other side of the moon show that the shockwaves tore the moon's crust apart. The crater is a good 30% of the diameter of Mimas itself. Had it been, say, 50%, there would BE no Mimas. Just a lot more dust in the rings, maybe making us wonder 'What if a moon was destroyed in the distant past?'

@JTelli786: Nahhh...Iapetus could have been another Death Star look-alike. Except it's got that weird circumferential ridge, and that yin-and-yang dark and light color side -- turning it into a giant white chocolate-dipped walnut. LOL
