Boy does this arcade game bring back memories. I used to play it a lot at Pizza Hut when I was little. It was also my favorite game of the original NES.
Looks a lot better than the NES port. I always remember the third game being a lot easier than this, and I think the reason is that this game was designed to devour quarters, and as such, not to have limited continues, while the third game was designed with the NES in mind.
TMNT on Arcade had great graphics, as did most arcade games. NES graphics were subpar compared to this. These are basically like, what, super nintendo graphics?
what annoyed me when i was a kid there was always 5 year olds trying to play this game with no credits and they would hog the machine.
and when ever i started to play i get some mother coming up to me saying can jimmy join you and i be like ok and jimmy be like holding up the game because he couldn't work the fucking god damn fucking stick and i end up fucking dead because i be showing him what to do!! ahh! memory's fucking bad ones more light nightmares..
I have this game for the arcade, and it definitely brings back a lot of memories too, and is without a doubt, one of the best videogames ever made! I don't have the full machine of it, but I do have the circuit board to it, and only the two player version, but still. I remember when the T.M.N.T. arcade game used to be everywhere back in the day as well!
We actually got to the end of the game when I was younger. I tried playing it not that long ago..It's actually freakin' hard! How the hell did I get to the end??
By the way, I unlocked the original arcade game on TMNT 2:Battle Nexus. Besides the lack of voice samples and changed music that plays in all levels, it's pretty much identical to the original arcade game.
Did you know that the arcade version was an unlockable on the game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2:Battle Nexus on Playstation 2, Xbox & Gamecube? I've heard that it's different from the original arcade game.
Oh I do remember this game very well! I reckon finding an Amusement Arcade these days is really hard to find.
I think the nearest one to us is about 20 miles away near the coast. We have one in our town, but it's all fruit machines which I'm not keen on.They used to have arcade games, but were told to get rid of them because they were too noisy by neighboring shops! :(
holy shit! they offered this on the showcase showdown? freakin' unbelieveable! if they won it, he or she would be gettin' all their friends over and play this... for change that is!
u wanna know what they should do. Have a store with all the classic arcade games kinda like an arcade only it's filled with the classics. I could only imagine how many people would be in that store.
Man I miss Arcades!! They've shut down all of them at my local malls back in the 90's. Reminds me of the days where me and my friends were bored and we'd all take the bus to the city to the local arcade to meetup and play arcade games.
dam i wanna DOWN LOAD THIS GAME OFF THE PLAYSTAION STORE!!! I have the X men game arcade i want this one!!! and that one cowboy game. does anyone know if there gonna offer this game on the store??? i really didnt like the redone turtle game they did in time or w/e
6 ppl are still inserting real coins down at the local pizza shop... Download Mame and play it on that haha..... I got mine connected to my roof mounted projector and with the arcade game The Simpsons and thousands more......
Did anyone else play a version of this game on the NES? This is almost exactly how I remember it, except I don't think the graphics were this good. I used to get to this part as a kid where these tiger things would run at me, and then get killed every time by some dude who had a detachable head. Someone please reply.
@tbone11286 Yeah, I remember. I played this exact same game on the NES. I remember which guy you're talking about. The dude's name is "Shogun." He was a tough guy to beat in the game. His head would come off when you fought him and would fly around in circles, chasing you down.
This was my favourite game of my chidhood. I was a pro playing this, I knew all the tricks and could complete the whole game with a very few lives!! Great souvenirs. Thanks for sharing
its times like these i can look back at my childhood and say wow im old but i at least had the pleasure of playing games like these when they were good
one thing i never got as a kid was how the heck you were supposed to fight the bosses. It's the only game i've seen where flawless victory is seemingly impossible instead of just very difficult. Rocksteady's moves are all pretty much instant and he doesnt' have a pattern. Unless you're willing to get something like one hit in before evading AND you're a god of gaming, flawless victory just isn't going to happen. The bosses on this game guzzle quarters
this game was at a store where i lived and i would have to wait for all the older kids to get done before i could play..i have try to find this on ebay but the 1 for nes is not the same if anyone knows how to get this game i would be happy to pay for it
When I was a kid, this game is the only one that mattered at Chuck-e-Cheese. Huge crowds would be gathered around this one game while 4 people took turns beating the crap out of foot while the other games would for the most part remain neglected. God, I was so devastated when they took the game out I stopped going to Chuck-e-Cheese!
Oh my God I feel like i'm back in kindergarten and 1st grade. Me and my friends would play this game religiously in the arcade games. God You Tube is amazing.
I encountered an interesting glitch on a TMNT arcade machine when I was younger while at Chuck-E-Cheese. During a 4 player game, after defeating Granitor, when Splinter was being lowered by the rope, rather than dropping and becoming freed, he continued to be lowered through the floor and beyond the bottom of the screen. The game did nothing more and the turtles were uncontrollable, stuck in their idle stances. We had to have the game be reset.
And if you pressed "start" as many times as possible as soon as you put coins in the slot, you would get tons of extra lives. An extra life for every time you managed to press start before the game started. But only if you were Leonardo if I remember.
@latino7604 They put it as an extra on one of the modern Turtles games. However its not very good as they took the music out. They didnt have the rights to the old theme. Best way to play it in the home is on the xbox 360 where you can download it. Its 4 player online too. The NES port was the best until the xbox port.
When Leo reaches the Room where April is located... Look at the end table to the right side of the desk. That is CLEARLY a bong, ashtray and a bowl piece on the left side of the bong. Am I wrong?
This is the game they should of re made, so many memories of this game, not only playing it as the arcade game, but also the nes version, which imho was a great game and still is
BEST GAME EVER!!!! But I hated playing in groups and the one douche would to say between levels: "Don't touch the buttons. We won't get out life points refilled."
@Thebestusername2 yeah, but it SUCKED.....only two players, although there was a rumor that if you hooked up one of the 4 player adapters it would automatically go to 4 player, which turned out not to be true.
ohhhh i love this game and the turtle mikey and donatello were my favorites i remember playing this at a chuckie cheese palace back in new orleans when i was 8 my big bro always chose leonardo
i remember playing this game at my old dentist, it had like 2 arcade machines, this game and street fighter, and they were free! lol i hogged this one
Around the time that this game reached it's height in popularity I was 9 years old and vacationing with my family in Ocean City, New Jersey. On 8th street and Boardwalk there was a place called Simms Video Casino that actually had a whole room filled with 20 TMNT arcade games, and it was almost always packed. At that time, my idea of heaven would have been beating every single one of those arcade games successively with my 3 best friends.
YESSSS !!!! You rock. I am suddenly 12 yeras old again. I had a crappy paper route that paid $15 every 2 weeks. But on that magical pay day I would cash the whole thing in for quarters and play the fuck out of this arcade game, right outside my local HECK'S store.
Back in 1990, my friend instead of makin' a birthday party, choose to invite the friends and spend the money it would demand in coins to play this game. We didn't blow a candle, we didn't had a cake, but we had something better: 4 friends and 72 coins later, we had the happiness to beat, for the first time, this game. In that age, it made all the sense.
@kranza dude....that's such an amazing childhood story!! my friends and i couldn't beat the game with the little money and time we got when we would meet at the arcade. freakin CHEERS, dude! that's an awesome idea for a birthday! you're an 80's baby? same here! '83! simpler times!
@hamikinBORN That's right my friend, I'm an 80s baby too (1980). Even I'm being from Brazil and you from another country (US, I guess), the 80s children had so much in common, didn't matter where you from. The culture in that time was unique, straight: everybody watched the same TV shows, everybody played Atari or Nintendo, had fun with the same cartoons... today, the children got too many options in every aspect. Guess this fact made us more united in the nostalgia. Cheers!
@Fancie1982 Dude, you can bet it with all your cards! I wish I could relive that moment but with that same innocence: the child's innocence, when you don't need fancy clothes or a nice car to be happy. When just a simple act of beating a game with your best friends made you pleased for days! It's a shame that we still don't have a time machine...
@Kaoxon Yes, sure it was. That birthday was so meaningful that I can clearly remember it, even 20 years latter. I said 20 years!? Gosh, I´m gettin' old...
@kranza Being a kid in the 90's was awesome! I'm sure there's nothing like this for kids these days that comes close to the experience you described here.
spent many a friday evening and all my pocket money in the arcades playing this game

On 8th street and Boardwalk there was a place called Simms Video Casino that actually had a whole room filled with 20 TMNT arcade games, and it was almost always packed. At that time, my idea of heaven would have been beating every single one of those arcade games successively with my 3 best friends.

I completed this arcade in Benidorm in the early 90s. Great game.

YESSSS !!!!

@kranza dude....that's such an amazing childhood story!! my friends and i couldn't beat the game with the little money and time we got when we would meet at the arcade. freakin CHEERS, dude! that's an awesome idea for a birthday! you're an 80's baby? same here! '83! simpler times!
hamikinBORN 1 year ago
@hamikinBORN That's right my friend, I'm an 80s baby too (1980). Even I'm being from Brazil and you from another country (US, I guess), the 80s children had so much in common, didn't matter where you from. The culture in that time was unique, straight: everybody watched the same TV shows, everybody played Atari or Nintendo, had fun with the same cartoons... today, the children got too many options in every aspect. Guess this fact made us more united in the nostalgia. Cheers!

@kranza sounds like fun i bet you wish you could relive that moment :)

The new one isn't anywhere near as good as the old. They call it a classic for a reason.

One of the best arcade video games ever made. It's a work of art, and truely one of the best in the beat um up genre.
I remember playing this video game so many times at Chucky Cheeses, Johnny Sortinos, and beating it out Mahoney park.
