I own a V6 mustang and they're very underrated by both muscle and import sides. for a low compression small block engine, it has some power behind it and especially with the right stuff, it can outdo a GT. WITHOUT turbo! theres a vid on here somewhere of a V6 mustang with nothing more than boltons and a cam job running 243hp at the wheels. no tuning.

yes they make excellent daily drivers and also are great engines to build. well over 600rwhp on stock block and crank means they handle alot of power reliably. Oh my 99GT gets 16 city so your right. not 15 but who cares about 1mpg. my procharged 98 gets 26.5 on the highway and eats my 24mpg 99 GT vert. not knocking GTs as they are excellent cars but the V6 is a very good basis to build on. i like the sound of them. kinda like an old racing jaguar. no GT sound but nothing wrong with the 6.

I have an 02 v6 loaded with a CAI and a flowmaster muffler and I love it too. I wanted a GT also but I knew I could not afford the insurance, the gas, and save for college in July so I got the v6.
I'm in the exact same boat as you!! I think you can put on a few mods to the V6 and they are just as good as a GT. Plus the V6 will still get better gas mileage.
Properly tuned you can exceed the 30RWHP gain quite easily... I'll video the dyno of the V6 we're building right now (which has what you're asking about) when we do it in a few weeks... But we're pretty sure we're looking at a good RWHP gain and a nice looking increase at the crank... (as it sits with a CAI and SCT Livewire it's got more balls)
In what respect? lol - HP changes vary for every car... the RWHP gain for the SAME BBK CAI on our 04 V6 compared to our buddies (on the same dyno) was exactly 7HP more when we tuned it for the CAI... so... Yeah. lol
You honestly think you'll get over 30hp with the listed mods lol? Mac lt's would lose power down low but gain a few hp up top, cai will get you 3hp max, true duals wont do you much if anything, and a tuner will get around 10hp. Those mods are no where near 30.
To the person who has no idea what they're doing... As I said before... Whereas when you put the tuner in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing... You get way better results... I can tell you really don't get it so I'm not sure if it's worth my time explaining...

i have an '02 v6 five speed with hurst shifter, bbk headers pypes true dual catted x-pipe and pypes stainless cat back. I needed o2 extensions too sounds good
I have true dual Magnaflows on my 6. Sounds great until you hit high rpms then it just farts. It was just to quiet with the y pipe. I'm sure an H pipe would help some but not much.
I have mac long tubes, a fabricated 2.5" mandrel bent short off road H pipe, and magnapack cat back from magnaflow.
cost is 318 for headers, 150 for piping/welding, and 360 for the cat back. also O2 sensor extending harness and MIL eliminators are 60. so just shy of 1 grand.
Oh come on, its not that bad, i like it to be honest, a bit diffrent then the usual growl. Everyones able to call choices on thier own car. Not to stur up some heat.. but i like it.
thanks for the support. i like the sound of a full offroad mac setup, but a chambered muffler has not been proved to flow as well as a straight through magnaflow muffler. the power difference is small, but when trying to do things on a budget, every bit helps..

Its got some kinda baffle, Almost sounds like a turbo spool.
Install a short resonator, it should delete that baffle.
