@BooJoMan O if he means that, then I absolutely agree. I was listening to Pandora the other day and a song came up that sounded like Pirates of the Caribbean (which already sounds like Gladiator).. then I realized it sounded different, in a bad, less talented way. It was Transformers. And it was all over the place.
@auvelier I agree for the most part, but have to point out an inaccuracy- it was actually Christopher Nolan who requested that this time around (his Batman films) that Batman and Bruce Wayne stay without an obvious theme. Hans Zimmer actually did put in certain themes for Bruce, Batman, and the Joker and everyone else, but wrote them so that they weren't obvious or anything "hum" worthy, as to Nolan's request.
@Ninkira i think he means that everyone is now trying to create a dark knight esk soundtrack. And I can see what he means. Most modern films have pretty much the same soundtrack.
@thisismyllamalouie Look im so sorry, i accidently wrote it on the wrong video, i was going to delete the comment as quick as i could but it my computer was extremly slow!
Every Batman villain is a distorted version of Bruce Wayne:
Mr Freeze - motivated from losing a loved one. Two Face - A vengeful alter identity. Riddler - Genius level intelligence. Scarecrow - Uses fear against their enemies. Bane - Extraordinary physical capabilities. Penguin - A rich business man. Catwoman - An animal of the night. Ras Al Ghul - relentless determination to complete their ultimate goal. Except the joker, he's just crazy.
Even to this day, as an adult, this song still haunts me. It captures the frighteningly daunting dual nature of being one with such a duplicate nature in dual personialities. But I don't know what scares me most when I hear this song: The fear of becoming what you sought to dispose of or allowing your fate in the hands of chance to an excessive degree to the point of removal in concious common sense that depeletes all notions of being genuienly self-aware of who your are.
@xaayer Uh, yeah. That depends heavily on what you're looking for. For a darker, more modern Batman, yeah, watch TAS. However, as a love-letter to the silver age of Batman, The Brave and the Bold was excellent, and managed to be both uplifting and still deal with serious issues.
@CapnMarvel22 Ah yes, the silver age of comics. The age that sent Batman to space and gave Adam West his best and worst role and basically typecasted him as a campy actor for the years to come until the 90s. While I admit that it was a good time for comics, we should be progressing. If they cant think of an original Batman series, then why are you going back and making the 60s again? It isn't necessary. move forward. I have watch BatB (even the ones said to be dark) and they don't compare at all
@CapnMarvel22 with TAS. Yes it is a love letter to the silver age, but it shouldn't be about batman because batman has become a character that thinks through and talks more than he fights. Watch BatB's Batman vs Owlman fight. Then watch the same two characters fight in Crisis on Two earths. Then watch the Justice League Episode "A Better World." Which fight is the worst? Which one is the most shallow? BatB. They just start fighting and talking in cliched tones. Why are they fighting?
@CapnMarvel22 What is their motivation? What is on the line? How do they know who is good and who is bad? What are the underlying Ideals? In Crisis it was a battle of philosophy more than a battle of fists. Owlman was a Nihilist and believed destroying reality was the only choice that could matter. In Justice League it was a battle of ethics and whether forcing peace on the world if you have the power to was the better route that just working with a person's free will.
@CapnMarvel22 It also dived into the mind of Batman and the rest of the League and how close they are to crossing the line. BatB's fight was just that: a fight. What it came down to was Batman fought Owlman, turned off the lights, and shined a flashlight in his face. Memorable quotes from those fights? Crisis: "No. [I'm] Not good. Never good. After all, I'm only human."
@CapnMarvel22 Justice League: "And with that power, we've created a world where no 8 year old boy will EVER lose his parents because of some punk with a gun." (This quote being so powerful the Justice League Batman even realized this was a fight of ideals, not about who can hit harder). The Best quote from BatB: "Owls see better in the dark than bats." I hold my position that it is a step down. The only reason I would watch this show is if it focused on Aquaman because at least here he has
@themada1o1 it is a 2 part episode and there is a website called DC Beyond and it has like the first 20 episodes of the first season. It is in there I think around 15 I just recently watched it.
@TheRealSentai It's not that ironic actually. All the themes of B:TAS, story, characters are all based on American noir films and art deco architectural design. It loses none of that during the animation process in Japan. Anime, on the other hand, is influenced by anime before it and the culture of Japan. The animation studio has absolutely no bearing on the creative process or what the show is about. It's the culture and influences of the creative mind behind it that shapes the show.
My favorite pair of episodes. Towards the end of part one, when Two-Face looks towards the camera and shows his evil half for the first time, and the lightning strikes... it gives me the chills every time.
The backgrounds painted on black paper instead of white paper... The timelessness of the city and the vehicles reminiscent of the past... First show to depict someone getting shot... first show with real guns and not laser weapons... first and last animated show with depth. What has happened to all the good writers out there? Shows have turned from depth and a thought to over-done explosions and fights barely held together by a thin plot.
@xaayer All of the Batman writers are still out there, working on other projects. This is just one of those situations where the stars seemed to be in alignment and everything and everyone came together at the right time - script, design, storyboard, animation, music - to create something no one's seen before, and hasn't seen since. If anything, be thankful you were there to see it, because who knows if something of this quality will ever be seen again.
This show was way ahead of its time. Every aspect of it, dripped care and craftmanship, and of course the music is no exception. It's so haunting and beautiful at the same time... There are movies with less rich thematic material than this and, in my honest opinion, regardless of how good it is, we have Hans Zimmer and his batman scores to blame on that recent trend of creating "themeless superheroes"
@auvelier I have to disagree with you - in part. I like Zimmer´s work a lot and, while its not 'whistle-along' themes, such as Elfman´s, I find it awesome and whenever I hear the heavy drums and the orchestra, I immediately get brought back to The Dark Knight, same way as I do when listening to the gentle chords strokes of the Gladiator. Zimmer is awesome in his own way. But this series´ scoring was flawless, indeed.
@auvelier I totaly agree with everything you said and would like to refelct the sentiment, I have found the new Batman films fairly unerwheming and colourless compared to what this cartoon managed to do in the early 90s and as far as Im concerned this cartoon is the definitive version of what Batman should be, itself inspired by the 1989 film, and Two Faces theme is one of if not my fave from the series
I'm thankful that I was born in 83, because I got exposed to Marvel & DC cartoons. These days it's riddled with japanese anime, which I can barely stand for the most part.
@VoodooRhythmSound I like Japanese anime, but Americans should not be basing their animation on Japanese animation. But anyway, I am also glad that i got to see the classic DC and Marvel works such as this. The nineties were awesome!
@BooJoMan O if he means that, then I absolutely agree.
