  • Beautiful

  • Indeed an extremely beautiful rendition of this beautiful music. Thanks for posting!!

  • Greatly sung with emotion and excellent vocal ability. Thank you Montserrat

  • Does anyone know if this recording is currently available on CD?

  • The vocal music world declares this a soprano tour de force, so every acclaimed soprano must sing it. Many will live forever in the memories of those Palm Sunday services in Washington during the days of Charlae Olaker and Barbara Buck, two very powerful voices who perform with true talent divinely inspired. The silvery tone of Miss Caballe is another singular performance. Brava!

  • Sing it darling!!

  • Now go hear Eleanor Steber sing this.

  • @keenaussie Steber is truly great but so different in style that I wouldn't dare pick between the two. Caballe is less energetic, Steber is like a volcano, but Caballe's more languorous approach appeals to me.

  • @GeorgiNM Plus Caballes tone in this particular recording is of ultimately unrivalled beauty and quality.

  • @keenaussie Why would I want to go hear Eleanor sing this, when I just heard the most beautiful voice in history sing this piece.Montserrat Caballe is the Goddess of Opera.

  • @montsyblackmadonna for me sutherland is also a goddess, may she rest in peace

  • @montsyblackmadonna Because there are many beautiful renditions of this piece and Eleanor Steber's just happens to be one of them.

  • @montsyblackmadonna You're right about Montserrat Caballe's voice, but Eleanor's rendition is also quite exciting, as is Birgit Nilsson's, Deborah Voigt (circa 1994). There is room for many interpretations, but there is no voice quite like Montserrat's. Joan Dorneman of the Metropolitan Opera said that this color of voice does not exist anywhere else in the world other than Montserrat's throat! It is instantly recognizable, distinctive and quite beautiful.

  • I learned this song in Junior High School 26 years ago, and I still sing it.. I love it..

    A true Classic Indeed.. Brava!

  • My church choir sings this as an Anthem with my Aunt who is a trained Mezzo even at 60 some years old she can still handle this. This all from an african american baptist church. In english of course, LOL

  • And since she is a trained singer who obviously takes care of her voice, she will be singing it at 70 some years old!

  • Superb singing..She was up there with the very best! Brava! TY.

  • Do any of you know the recording with Pilar Lorengar?

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • Stunning: Is this from her "Rarities" recording?

  • Beautiful!!! But I think much slower than I'm used to hearing it.

  • Just how "used" are you to hearing this, and sung by WHOM?? Pfftt.

  • Listen to the one under "Eva Mei" it is a bit faster.

I'm not one to hear much opera but this song was sung at our church off and on and without the orchestra . Not professional of course.

  • Makes one kind of grateful for Riccardo Muti's hysterical, pseudo-Verdian excitability: it covers for Eva Mei's amateurish wobble.

Angela Gheorghiu's video is even slower than Caballé: more Beethoven than Verdi. I like it much more that way. But Caballé sings better.

  • You are right! I do think Caballe actually sings it better!!!!! I am a neophyte in listening to opera. Thanks for allowing me to listen more closely to the singer. It is superb!!!

  • Absolutamente impresionante!!!! Que voz tan bella

  • fantastica interpretazione

  • Splendid rendition here : the great Caballé.

One of the most beautiful "Inflammatus" with Renata Tebaldi's one.

  • I perfectly agree . Renata Tebaldi's and Montserrat

Caballe's are the greatest renditions of Rossini's

    "Inflammatus"

  • @lampant I have to say that somehow , surprisingly, I feel ( or hear) a light or an ambiguous Callas resonance ... like an extremely light echo which becomes a precious ingredient to the performance. There is a mystical exaltation and yet an heroic, triumphant catharsis all at once. Yes, YES, YEs no matter what they say BRAVO MONTSERRRAT and again, NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY! BRAVO

  • I believe this is the 1967 studio recording with the RCA Italiana Opera Orchestra and

Chorus under Carlo Felice Cillario. It is, in my view, the best rendition of this aria from the Stabat Mater. No one had heard anything like this since the times of Giulia Grisi and Adelina Patti. Glorius singing.

  • Of course you never heard either Grisi or Patti singing this.

Johanna Gadski made a famous Victor recording of this, though.

This Caballé performance is superb. Her softer modulations on top are so beautiful.

  • I'm really older than I look. I even heard Orpheus sing. Great legato.

  • Melba is said to have sung this magnificently; but there are no recordings of any of her Rossini singing, which included Barbiere and Semiramide. At least we have Caballe's great performance.
