Futral: Magnificent. In America's top ten of sopranos. Production: It sucked. Take all the royalty out of Cleopatra and make her into a 40's lesbian with maids in the background and stupid sets. What does Caesar look like here? A bank president? More 'clever', stupid stage directors--they are ruining operas. Sills would have thrown rotten tomatoes before she agreed to be in this travesty.
Thanks for posting this... I haven't heard Elizabeth in a while... She is indeed a wonderful singer, though I might perhaps prefer her as Lucia and Gilda, rather than Cleopatra (I guess Sills & Sutherland singing this role have spoiled it for most anyone else!) But Futral sounds great, with some excellent ornamentation... weird production though... and lots of asthmatics in the audience!
This is good in a way, but boring. The new sopranos is just not tall enough for the bar that Sutherland, Sills, Callas and the other postwar divas raised
In a way I agree, but you just kind of have to get over that if you want to enjoy opera today. It's really as simple as that. I think Futral is wonderful.
Sadiesexy - BORING? you've got to be kidding. Futral makes this super exciting with her non-stop energy and a BIG voice that isn't afraid of amazing ornamentation. The woman sings with amazing gusto and style. Can't take anything away from Sills who sang this aria with pure silver. I'm sure she'd applaud Futral's interpretation had she heard it, however.
very few are, but she is very near close. honestly sutherland does nothing for me in handel. maybe some of her earlier handel is exciting, btu ill take the likes of beverly, kozena, futral, and even the horribly boring but vocally immaculate troyanos in this aria
I can't help but wonder though, was that a cough from her at the begining? I thought I heard her gasp for air a couple times (but then again, I do the same thing when i'm doing Handel sometimes haha)

I would have fuckin stabbed that motherfucker who was coughing (or suffocated them with a small plastic bag) but quietly.

beautful singing, but why does she appear to be seizing? Not really proper comportment for a diva.

А есть ли еще фрагменты из этой постановки оперы?

I absolutely love Elizabeth Futral!
She graduated from Samford, which is where I attend, so of course all of us voice major aspire to be as amazing as she is!
I am simply amazed at how versatile a soprano she is...she can sing with such ease and still potray so much emotion!

Is this a special performance for the Asthma and Allergy Association? I think there are at least ten in the audience allergic to this opera..
