  • "DO HAVE YOU HAVE THE SLIGHTEST IDEA WHAT A MORAL AND ETHICAL PRINCIPLE IS?! DO YOU?!"

    ^most freaky irony EVER^

  • @ConcordantMind LOL i love that line

  • More terrifying than any horror film filled with blood and guts.

  • who ever disliked this should be hit with a bat...

  • i read somewhere that the first shot of this scene was perfect... but kubrick wanted nicholson's face to look really tired so they shot it more than 60 times!!!!!

  • And this is why he was one of the best jokers in batman

  • "Feeling fine."

  • @MrWatson193 Well, that's a relief!

  • all work and no play makes 6 people dislike this video....

all work and no play makes 6 people dislike this video...

  • kinda like an evil jim carey character haha

  • If you need someone to act the part of an unpredictable psychopath with homicidal tendencies, you need look no further than Jack Nicholson.

  • Also great camera work starts at the desk and ends all the way at the top of the stairs! Some tricky work

  • God damn that music scares the shit out of me still whoever did it I hope got a award or something

  • There is not a murderer behind you.

  • @maccas1329 D:

  • I heard that Shelley Duvall's performance of a traumatized women about to lose her minde was more real cause Stanley Kubrick was kinda of a jerk to her during filming, on purpose. Great movie though.

  • oh yeah!

  • great movie hope that they never make remake of it

  • @Anatoli1990 Oh, there's a remake that came out in 1997.

But the fact that you never heard of it proves how terrible it is.

  • no joke, her face is the scariest part of the film.

  • "im not gonna hurt you... I'm just gonna bash your brains in"

jack nicholson you scary bastard 0.0

  • This movie terrifies me. There is hardly any gore and all the 'scary' movies these days are chock full of blood and guts, and this movie beats all of them by a mile.

  • @Dysphorria there's a difference between Psychological horror and those slashing and bashing horrors. There are still a lot of psychological horror movies these days but they're not that scary. You should watch some of those asian horror movies, i guarantee you that you'll find what you're looking for

  • somehow.. it feels like an older version of jim carrey :S

  • the trainee had to type the pages

  • I don't like the actress... Jack Nicholson is the best!

  • Nicholson is the best actor in the world!

  • All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. • great movie

  • NICE UPLOAD111111111111111

  • How the FUCK is that bad acting?

  • actors are nothing without their directors.

Credits to Stanley Kubrick as well!!

  • 1:01

    Scariest scene in any movie

  • AHA WHO CAN READ SWEDISH??

  • @iownztahouse I can

  • @feelerr WOOOOTS

  • he wasnt even nominated for the academy awards -.- .....

  • the best!

  • as thoon as pathibal? xD

  • A lot of the music for this movie wasn't written for the movie. Krzysztof Penderecki just writes creepy ass music. Saw him conduct live in New Haven

  • I always thought Shelley was kinda hot.

  • his face and laugh at 6.55 is really really scary

  • Considering what happens after the bat scene, I would have just continued bashing his head for about the rest of the movie!!

  • 1:10 Typo: All work and no play makes Jaca dyll boy.

  • @PanioGuitarCovers There are loads of typos...

  • one of my fav movies of alll time

  • Is it weird that the ballroom in the movie is exactly as I pictured it when I read the book? WOW

  • 6 people have been to the Overlook...

  • this was my favorite movie when I was 5.. O.o

  • all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and no play makes Jack a dull boy no play makes Jack a dull boy play makes Jack a dull boy makes Jack a dull boy Jack a dull boy a dull boy dull boy boy

  • Is it bad that the first half of Jack's scene is actually making me laugh? It's like he forgot he was in a horror movie...

  • I love his shots with the character's, and the camera panning with them and letting the characters act it out, with such great actors, it makes the film very uncomfortable and creepy. The open space, so opposite of most horror films, really give the feeling of loneliness.

  • lol THE SIMPSONS

  • The stair scene has the world record for most takes on a single shot

  • bad actors

  • @GamerNick1114

In this scene, Nicholson portrays a madman while still managing to make his character seem patient and controlled. It's an exceptional performance that remains consistent throughout the films duration. How is it bad acting?

  • the soundtrack is amazing, it mezmerize me

  • Uhh Homer me and some of the other ghouls are a little concerned that this project is not really going anywhere

  • HA! No spell check in 1980. :P

  • Lets talk: shelly duvall is FUCKING HIDEOUS its just inhumane...

  • not everyone like horror films dont be surprise when u see a dislike

  • The funniest thing ever!!

  • This is how I'm like on the weekends. I don't want anyone fucking talking to me. >:)

  • Who dislikes this?

  • shelley was a tweeker back then

in the making of the shining she loads up right on camera

  • the best actor of all time

  • I feel sorry for the person who had to type all those pages out. lol

  • @RealSnowWhite hahah a think the same

  • @RealSnowWhite Kubrick was the one typing them

  • @CHAMIONandBOO Wow, I didn't know that. Thank you.

  • @RealSnowWhite I thought the exact same thing when I watched this picture a couple of months ago!

  • God she's a bit simple. How long does it take to figure out that all those pages say 'all work and no play makes Jack a dullboy'?

  • fucking brilliant

  • "All work and no play makes Jack a '....'"

    How about Rob Roy?

    Malfoy?

    Bot Boy?

    Dull Goy?

    Pol Pot? LMFAO *dies*

  • The only thing that bothers me in this movie is that Wendy looks completely the opposite of what was described in the book.

  • "as soon as possible >8 D

  • That woman is Butt ugly....................

  • @Mrzowboto asshole

  • darling, light of my life im not gonna hurt u! im just going brash your brain lmao! :D

  • At 1:16 a line says bot boy. He is the reason soldierfront people can hack!

  • Gran escena

  • Woe to the industry intern who actually had to type all that for the movie!

  • @ykaiilah i'm pretty sure Kubrick wrote that all himself. with only minor help. I'm dead serious.

  • @SkyFortStudios LMAO!!

  • @ykaiilah And by "all" I mean he wrote all 500 pages not just the top ten were done. There's an insanity there that's not far off from Jack in the movie?

  • Is this a dub because Jack sounds like Willy Wonka O-O

  • @KittyKazooTV no its not a dub........he doesnt sound like johnny depp's Willy wonka

  • @Cooleo299 Not Johnny Depp. And he sounds so much different in The Bucket List! :O

  • @KittyKazooTV thats who plays willy wonka :/ and he was older in The Bucket List

  • @Cooleo299 ik im talking about the old version, the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, not Charlie and the Chocolate Factory : \

  • All work and no play makes Jack suck ass -:(

  • all work and no play makes jack go gay

  • All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

  • 01:14 All work and no play makes Jack a dull bot

  • 07:36 He wanted the bat, he GOT the fucking bat!

  • Has he never heard of Haiku?

  • i don't think they mentioned that all work and no play make jack a dull boy...

  • Took them about 165 shot to film her swing the bat. Kub wanted the actress insane.

  • anyone else notice jack's left eyebrow twitch at 6:52 ? xD

  • Jack nicholson was perfect for the role of Jack Torrance! He uses good body techniques to show that he is a bad guy, he is focused on the situation/scene. His speech is controlled, when he's mimicking his wife he doesn't laugh and he is still focused, also (to me) his laugh sounds more real than fake.

  • like if your watching this in 2011 XD

  • If she would of just gave him the bat he wouldnt of got so mad later in the movie and tried to kill her. I would of gave him the bat.

  • @tragim71

Wow, your argument is so eloquent. If you would of gave him the bat you would of bin az ded az Scatman Crothers

  • @oily8mutt If you give him the bat, then he cant run as fast cause he has more weight on him. Not only that he might calm down if you do what your told.

  • @tragim71

    Are you four years old?

  • @oily8mutt SARCASM

  • @oily8mutt I was joking

  • At 1:08 you start seeing that he made some spelling errors, he starts spelling the word "boy" wrong.

  • @GothEvilButterfly91

yeah hah :P "...dull bot" but it is realistic. t is next to y :P

  • @GothEvilButterfly91 that was meant to happen man

  • 4 people went insane from being left in that mansion with Rebecca black

  • such a lovely loving caring couple <3

  • 4 people really have some problems by not liking this. They should seriously think things over. But then again, they've had their whole f***ing life to think things over!

  • Must of laughed their arses off after filming this scene xD

  • 4 people couldnt spell "Redrum"

  • Acting is amazing.

  • AS SOON AS POSSIBAAAHHLLL??? LOL

  • i'm wondering something : when jack told wendy to get out because she was disturbing him , maybe jack was already typing this.

  • Stanley gaybrick

  • 4 people need to go check out the Snowcat. GO CHECK IT OUT!!

  • The one thing in this movie I do not understand is the guy in the dog costume.

  • 4 people must have got their brains bashed right the fuck in

  • Is she related to Sid from Ice Age?

  • "Vad tycker du?"

    bwahaahahaha

  • If I was left alone in a mansion with only Shelly Duvall to talk too for a few months I'd go murderously insane...

  • @lynassd lol...love your comment and especially the way she looks now!

  • @lynassd i wouldnt be talkin to her. we'd be gettin some fuckin done

  • when jack says "as soon as possible" lmao

  • This is probably one of the creepiest scenes of any movie I have watched....EWWWWWW! t:)

  • "AS SOON AS POSSIBLE....XP" Oh dear god..Jack is just one mentally disturbed man. But his comedic side is something that always gets to me in my warmest place. X)

  • When Wendy hits Jack with the bat, I always go WOO HOO!

  • Amazing freakin acting.

  • A CONTRACT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "I'm not gonna hurt you, I'm just gonna bash your brains in. I'm gonna bash right the fuck in. Hehe!"

I love that line, Jack Nicholson is a complete legend.

  • The Shining is a bonafied horror classic. I'm sorry if you don't like this movie then in my opinion your not a true fan of the genre type. I just love Jack Nicholson though. just think how many more good horror movies we would see nowadays if there were actors and actresses that could act anywhere near as good as him in addition to great script writing.

  • @kotulakj2 Yeah but you know, good horror movies were rare when this came out, in my opinion. There's always the temptation to talk about the good old days because only the classics survive from the good old days. We tend to forget the reams of crap that came out 30 years ago. This movie is a standout, and it's stood the test of time. A few movies from the 2000s and 2010s will too.

  • 3 people need to think things over. But then again they've had their WHOLE FUCKING LIFE to think things over!

  • There' also one that says, "Bog," at the end.

  • If you pause at 1:14, you can see a typo. It says, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull bot." :)

  • whose name is on the bat?

  • @BestTits Did you find out?

  • The music and direction make this scene so utterly terrifying. It's amazing.

  • thriller mj no keyb.

  • haha typo @1:10

  • "I'm not gonna hurt ya, I'm just gonna bash your brains in. I'm gonna bash them right the fuck in"

  • I have no idea why the razzie's targeted this, the acting is genius from Duvall and the rest alike.

  • How come Duvall got a nomination for a razzie award? I think her acting skill is epic and so is jack nicholson.

  • All work and no play makes Homer something something...

  • @fireoutlaw23 go crazy? DON'T MIND IF I DO!!!!

  • She pisses me off more than anyone else in the world

  • jack seemed to put his hand right where the bat was already headed, as if he tried to grab the bat. i counted 41 swings of the bat, but only the last 2 swings made contact. i think the last swing was the only one where wendy intended to hit jack. the previous swings seem like attempts to get him to back off. it's interesting that the swing that really hurt jack happened when he was near the top of the stairs, such that his fall would cause the most damage. maybe wendy waited for that moment .

  • One of the best actors of all time xD

  • All work and no play makes jack a dull boy all work and no play makes jack a dull boy all work and no play makes jack a dull boy all work and no play makes jack a dull boy all work and no play makes jack a dull boy all work and no play makes jack a dull boy all work and no play makes jack a dull boy all work and no play makes jack a dull boy all work and no play makes jack a dull boy

  • Thumbs up Swedes! :D

  • @tokimasa121 i guess it would be interesting to see what it was like back when english and swedish were the same language, back before the language broke apart. i guess you know why english evolved so differently from the scandinavian languages. yea, the norman conquest did it, and it pushed english away from scandinavian languages.

  • 3 people have some very definate ideas about what should be done about Danny...and I'd like to KNOW WHAT THEY ARE!!

  • Who knew just writing on paper could be so evil. Great movie

  • i feel sorry for wendy!

  • all work and no play make jaca dyll boy

  • Typos all over the place on those papers.

  • @uome20bukz yea, but sometimes he did it right. spelling things the same way over and over would make it kind of dull, and we don't wish to have a dull jack roaming around.

  • Comment removed

  • nicholson in the role of his life. absolutely career defining.

  • anyone else notice the spelling mistakes on Jack's papers? lmfao

  • @ArnoldTohtFan yea, but sometimes he did it right. spelling things the same way over and over would make it kind of dull, and we don't wish to have a dull jack roaming around.

  • In the book he used a Croque mallet, I know you guys think the scenes with Nicholson are great the way they are but one wonders what could have happened had he ran around the place with a mallet instead of an axe.

  • @Shanethefilmmaker well, it would be better than a tennis racket.

  • @coventrygardens what I mean is that compared to the axe the mallet is more painfull.

  • @Shanethefilmmaker

I can see that you've never had an axe upside your head;)
