The music industry died in 1980. It is now being run totally by business people who have only one things on their mind, which is money and status. They are NOT music lovers. They could care less about quality of music, quality of voices, or even creative people. This is just watered-down entertainment for people. It is only an entertainment industry selling entertainers. Anyone who knows music really well, not commericalism, knows this. It has always been a business but this corrupt.
kate always likes to send messages, she needs to be inturped, this is much more then music, let me open it up a bit, heavey people are bosses, they gamble on people to make money for them , the ball is what they gamble in the case ov a star the gamble is big big big. rolling the ball to her means she must carry the load ov the production. any questions just think. WOW (walk on water).
Them 'heavy' people were all of the people instrumental (sorry) in opening and broadening her mind and body. 'Heavy' - think of 'hippy' 'heavy' (heavy, man!), as in deep, serious, intelligent, complex, whatever words you want to use! Not about music industry. About KATE and her loves and influences.
I saw her perform this on Saturday Night Live in the U.S. in 1978. It was strange and unforgettable. I didn't think about her much until I saw the Live at the Hammersmith Odeon performance on t.v. in the mid 80s. I became a fan then.
She is the queen of pisstake!!!! I love the pouting and posing at the end!!!! Where are the people like this today? I think you would hit Australia before finding this quality? I dont need to dig its here!
@narred Is this seriously about the cut-throat nature of the music industry? I always thought it was about paying attention to the lessons you can learn from people telling you hard truths. I guess it goes to show how a song can mean different things to different people. I often think the words are less important than the feeling. You take the emotion of a song and attach it to relevant experiences in your own life, and hang the words off that however they fit.
All of Kate's videos are so theatrical and dramatic, and a PERFECT compliment to her music, which is also dramatic and full of emotion and heart. I feel like every Kate song/album could be its own Broadway show!
Man, that video must have been SO much fun to make. Especially the whole hitting-the-random-guy-who-offends-you-over-the-head-with-a-chair part! Haha. Just kiddin'. But what is with all the kicking and hitting each other with various objects and the weird guys who gape at Kate and are all weird? Wait. Are they gaping? Or are they doing some sort of weird face exercise?
this is one of her scariest vids for me. she is singing about the cut throat natur of record compnaies and agensts, right? the kinda ppl that smile when they wanna scream at u but won't cos u may be woth a lot of money in a contract?
@narred Please don't be scared. No, she is singing about the experience of reading books by heavyweight philosophers such as Gurdjieff and others. Ms. Bush is a deep thinker. And it's an optimistic song. And the video is funny! Let's just enjoy it.
@flo15jo i've never even heard of gurdjieff!!! i can only make out so many lyrics and was told by somebody that that was what the song was about [ie, the cut throat nature of the entertainment industry]. still, thisd video is nowhere nr as scary as 'sat in your lap'!!
Why are youtube comments so focused on bringing other artists down? Does it /really/ make you a better Kate Bush fan?
I doubt it.
I like Kate Bush, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Tracy Chapman, Nina Simone, Robyn, Queen, Adele, Sneaky Sound System, Alicia Keys, Anne Murray, Patti Smith, Seal, Santana, and Tori Amos.

she's so British ! such a woman but not % of SHOW (to show herself I mean, she is naturally beautifull and she doesn't play with it) such an artist, please Kate
Kate's unique style is ageless and her songs are enchanting, she has to be without any doubt in my mind one of the most talented musicians I have ever had the pleasure to listen to, period.
Great singer, song-writer, dancer, producer, choreographer, non-publicity seeking and an all round wonderful entertainer. Truly one of a rare breed that makes her so special.
@ggarlick46 Unfortunately Kate will never fit into the limelight-hogging glammed-up so-called clelebrity category that seems mandatory for any artist featured on our screens/radio. They wouldn't know talent if it bit them in the derriere.
@dweagle02 The only thing Madonna had going for her was that people seem entertained by seeing some skanky looking whore with no other talent on stage. Kate will be famous for years. Madonna is finished. Look at her current photos. Grotesque.
@dweagle02 Please, Madogga the Queen of flashy slutdom & fame for fame's sake is a talent-dead-zone compared to the lightest musical fulff (Bananarama, Five Star), nevermind all those underappreciated females we were lucky enough to have throughtout the 80s-Kim Wilde, Kirsty MacColl, Cyndi Lauper, Aimee Mann, Bangles. As for a true original with the truly specialist scope that our Kate Bush has, how anyone can bring up that sexless old whore I'll never know. Crap, thieving old bags do not apply!
Why is it necessary for some people to compare one artist to another, and not take them on it's own merits? Comparing any of the so-called "modern musicians" to anything from the past is redundant. The flash in the pan fanatics seem to think a few current "performers" are so talented and ground breaking, yet they need to bring up who they consider their influences.
Most of today's music is industry fodder, It's all smoke and mirrors to deflect a lack of talent and creativity.
Took me a a while to find Kate. Not much play in U.S. Heard that voice on a desolate journey via car radio. Ladies, not everyone can sing like Kate but I will repeat the advice of a much wiser man than myself, Randy Newman, "You can leave your hat on".
nobody at the time was doing what she was doing, her music could hold its own with todays so called stars! plus she was a genuine beauty, still is! you cant compere her with anyone else, shes head and shoulders above everyone so there!....babooshka!.....
Before Kate's ground breaking the state of music for female "pop" singers was dire. Her lead gave record company bosses and producers the courage to let their vocalists loose.
Clearly I am missing something. You all seem to Love her but I don't even understand what she was singing about. And her facial expressions were very I Love Lucy-esque.
watching Kate Bush video compilation. Just noticed that for every KB video, the top-rated comment is something along the lines of "I don't mind Lady Gaga, but comparing Lady Gaga to Kate Bush is like comparing (something quite small) to (something really quite massive)".
Well, at least I suppose all the Gaga comparisons are introducing new people to KB's genius...
Just wondering..the 25 dislikes..hmm..what exactly you did not like? A gorgeous, sexy , British musical genius at the top of her game doing some magic....
Kate Bush was a superstar in the muso set when I was young. All the people I knew, who knew music, had Kate Bush records. When she played live, she sold out. Word of mouth, no big hits on radio. She sold records on pure talent. And her big 'hits' came later.
This video is a mimed version of the arrangement captured during her performance at the Hammersmith. Once you've seen the stage production in all its glory you will recognize the minimalist treatment shown here. Still, it's a worthy souvenir. The lass has class.
@smallGatsby 1979,its from The Tour Of Life concert in Hammersmith. The full concert was on tv a couple of months later ,I can remember it.Thats the only time its ever been on tv.
Does anyone hapen to know who the dancers are in this utterly fantastic, entertaining video? The purple skirt she's wearing is stunning. Those tight, split skirts were the fashion in 1979.
People who mention Lady Gaga and Kate Bush in the same sentence must be heavily intoxicated. There is absolutely no comparison. Gaga being an talentless attention seeker, and Kate being someone who probably invented heaven.
@Mrcor916 Bush is art, Gaga is entertainment. Bush is an artist, Gaga's a celebrity. Some ppl can't tell the difference between disposable pop music and something that will last forever, like KB.
@Mrcor916 Plus Kate Bush was 19 when she realised this song, which is funny, intelligent and mature beyond her years....And Kate Bush is beautiful..as someone that had bushy hair and was called Kate Bush in the playground, I look at her and I know women are expected to have straight hair or slick curls. Now I can see she was beautiful and should have seen it as compliment to look like her and have her like hers. Despite the teasing I secretly loved her music. Lady Gaga is more like Madonna.
@Defn28 I'd hate to think what yours is as you've clearly never heard her to state that-or you're just being a wind-up. Kim may not be to your so-called 'taste' but she's done more original and melodic songs than many overrated females (and males) of many past era and certainly all today's crap. Remember there are those that think Kate is a gimmicky nutjob with an overly high-voice who doesn't make sense and is too weird for the mainstream.
@BluEKiddLD I'm pretty sure it's meant to be : ) she has such a sweet, kooky sense of humour, and you can just see in her eyes that she's having a bit of a laugh. The choreography's amazing, though! No joke there!
The comparison thing sucks, but worst thing of all is that the world's suckiest person-Madonna the talent-free slaghag from hell had the absolute nerve to appear in the 80s & be crowned a queen! WTF! She shouldn't even be considered competition to the worst, nevermind the best & people are always considering that sad cow superior over the REAL talent then-Kim Wilde (my Queen of Music), Toyah, Kirsty MacColl, Stevie Nicks, Cyndi Lauper & yes Kate too. Madogga knowing how to fuck equals royalty?!

@dorot222 some people don't like weird songs. not me, i love kate bush. but she's weird, let's face it. genius, or excentric, but weird...

Kate Bush is beautiful, Lady Gaga is U-G-L-Y!!!

there is so much substance to just the music and lyric that everything else is secondary - so unlike many artists who are all schtick.

Music peaked in the 70 s.
Apart from trash like punk, disco and rap that is.
Early 70 s was the peak for rock but after 1975 there was alot to cherish too.
Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, UFO.
House and grunge were just the axe at the root of refined music.

Does Lady Gaga even have a sense of humour, this video is very funny, with very clever lyrics.
emmyjo720 1 year ago 2
No way could Lady Gaga ever write lyrics like this..."I was hiding in a room in my mind"....She is beautiful too. Lady Gaga is not.

Mrcor916 1 year ago 3

Kim Wilde? Are you for real man? Your opinion and your opinion only my friend, nothing more :)
Defn28 1 year ago
@Defn28 I'd hate to think what yours is as you've clearly never heard her to state that-or you're just being a wind-up. Kim may not be to your so-called 'taste' but she's done more original and melodic songs than many overrated females (and males) of many past era and certainly all today's crap. Remember there are those that think Kate is a gimmicky nutjob with an overly high-voice who doesn't make sense and is too weird for the mainstream.

She wasn't shagging Dave Gilmour you fucking dickhead!

As much as I love Kate, I have to admit... this video is F****ING HILARIOUS!!! =')
BluEKiddLD 1 year ago
