  • I think Peter Cook and Keith Moon have a lot in common. Both effortlessly talented at what they do, both driven to an early death through drink, and similar senses of humour. Just my thoughts anyway. Both eccentric Englishmen that add to the rich cultural tapestry of this little island off the coast of Europe.

  • Peter Cook was great he always reminded me a bit of David Bowie .

  • He's so handsome

  • park sux loads

  • Yea I used to think Old Spiece was the height of sophistication as well...

Love that cheeky grin Mr. Cook has when he says his ambition is to shut Parky up.

  • Goodness- Peter Cook wrote for the daily mail? That is staggering in the modern climate. Imagine a comic genius of this order sharing column space with Mad Mel Phillips and James DellinCock.

  • @williamwilson666 I think most of the pieces are available in 'Tragically, I Was An Only Twin.' If you do pick up a copy, make sure to intone it in a sort of nasally E.L. Wisty voice, otherwise it doesn't really get off the page.

  • Whats 'barley twenty'? A farming dodecahedron?

  • This man could be nothing but the sharpest man on the planet. Testing the water with what he could get away with. All comics owe. It was a far more unforgiving world then for such issues. Parky wa trying to play it cool. My Irsih Dad thought this guy was a huge breath of fresh air from the Northern racist comics at the time.He challenged the English system.

  • I can't believe he's nearly forty in this clip - he looks barley twenty.

  • Once again genuflect: Peter was an honest genius!

  • this guy is so explicitly honest about everything. . . and this is way before Howard Stern and new standards

  • Howerd Stern? Jesus Christ.

  • yeah, i mean long before that kinda thing became popular

  • Its Steve Coogan as a Young Alan Partridge!!!!,...lol,.......R.I.P...Peter Cook,...your the best!

  • I love this interview. Peter Cook is relaxed (pissed?) and is very candid. It's not often he let the mask of silly voices slip which is a shame because he was a deeply fascinating person when he was being himself.

  • Watching stuff like Derek and Clive makes you realise just how over PC today's society is. Really is pathetic! This stuff is gold, yeah they take the mick out of many groups - but they're just as likely to take the p*ss out to themselves. Awesome.

  • The Lyndon Johnson Quote has been misquoted as being invented by Liam Gallagher, therefore getting Liam into the top ten of wits, Sacriledge...

Peter Cook Noe what he says, that is wit...

  • Pete was voted funniest man of all time in 2006 with John Cleese coming in second.

I am still in shock that the BBC deleted most of his stuff.

  • @StinkyKnobcheese they did the same to most of spike miligan's material as well.

    BASTARDS!!!!!!

  • @StinkyKnobcheese Erasing material to reuse the film was common practice... it's unforgiveable in a sense, but it was part of the routine back then. I still hope that there are private collectors who taped the lost shows off of the television. Hopefully they're out there. He's a genius.

  • What has that got to do with anything?

  • peter cook.......brilliant. sad to realise the decline in overall british comedy over the years. compare russell brand to peter cook and it makes me want to cry. fortunately, i can watch this and laugh instead.

    thanks for posting this mrpraline.

( im now off to watch the "alan latchley football manager" interview with clive james. thank heavens for youtube ).

  • I think to say that russel brand is representative of british comedy today is somewhat overplaying your point. There are thoughtful (and thought provoking) comedians today as well such as mitchel and webb, as well as some absolutely awful acts/programes.

  • Clive Anderson, not Clive James. :)

  • Peter was so ahead of his time, watching his comments now, he is still ahead of his time, and today's comedians, even long after his death. And I agree, it is unusual to see Peter truly being himself and not hiding behind a (genious) character or the bottle. RIP Pete, you were a true legend.

  • Now I know what's wrong with today's comedy. Not enough smoking! R.I.P Peter, you genius you.

  • Peter Cook was brilliant.

  • Lovely to see him looking so calm, affable and un-pissed...

  • Probably the most important and influential comic ever to come out of Britain. Brilliant.

  • peter being peter. Hes just as funny as peter.I say almost if not nearly as good as mr cook himself.most unusual.

  • cheers

  • Totally agree with earlier observation from sirmgoo. To see Peter being himself is very unusual.

  • kind of prophetic how the guy asks him about ambition and peter says not really since that seems to be brought up a lot in all the articles ive read about him

  • I remember reading an interview Cook did where he said he ran out of ambition at 22 lol. Nothing was sacred to Peter, and nothing stood up to his powers of scrutiny either - a comic masterclass.

  • he reminds me a lot of steve coogan

  • hes usually pretty aloof in most of the interviews ive seen him in, its awesome to see his real personality

  • Oh thanks so much.... this is so cool
