What the hell is African American hair?....Last time I checked I thought hair was hair....different textures...but still, hair is hair. Is African American hair a "special" type of hair that ONLY African Americans have?.....I must be terribly confused.....or maybe i'm not the one who's confused.
@Venusstar22 generally speaking most african americans have a thicker and different texture to their hair than to any other hair. Like compared to Caucasian hair....they're just about opposites! African American hair has to be treated differently because it also dries out a lot easier and requires a lot of special care. but yea...thats coming from me....an african american with "african american" hair....

@phxbbg90 this might be true! BUT her hair is pressed/straightened here so it is much easier to manage. Also, maybe you should check out what NATURAL African american hair looks like -it has texture & isn't bone straight. Real hair vs natural hair is different. :)

I would go to your PCP doctor and make sure you are not sick. Insist on blood work and discuss any other concerns you maybe having. Or it could be too much of one type of hair product...too much protein.
i usually just grease my scalp( not a glob though), also whenever u wash ur hair make sure to get all the soap out of ur hair cuz that could also dry ur scalp up, oil sheen is really helpful for making ur halp smooth and shiny
I use a comb with tiny teeth, and a hair pin in case it wont stay in position...but I just have one side that always NO MATTER WHICH SIDE I SLEEP ON....lol it always gets a little crimped....and its always the side thats on the top when I wrap it (right at the temple or at the part depending where I set the wrap) no matter which way I wrap it x]....any suggestions??
i too think that a rat tail is good for combing through but i think she was trying to show us that the thick bristle brush smoothes it out so u wont have all those empty spaces in between, i didnt kno that bristle brushes caused split ends, thanx for the useful info

i wrap m hair every night before i go to sleep it makes it more manageable in the morning in my opinion. i have long and very thick hair and it really helps to keep my hair looking fresh the next day.
I know what you mean! Use wrapping pins, the don't have ridges in them so they won't put waves or crimps in your hair.They're long and curved to contour to your head. The brand I use is Goody.
after u wrap it and put something to hold it down, take the pins out. thats how i do it so that the pin mark isnt there since it doesnt stay in over night :)

I use a comb with tiny teeth, and a hair pin in case it wont stay in position...but I just have one side that always NO MATTER WHICH SIDE I SLEEP ON....lol it always gets a little crimped....and its always the side thats on the top when I wrap it (right at the temple or at the part depending where I set the wrap) no matter which way I wrap it x]....any suggestions??

i too think that a rat tail is good for combing through but i think she was trying to show us that the thick bristle brush smoothes it out so u wont have all those empty spaces in between, i didnt kno that bristle brushes caused split ends, thanx for the useful info

i wrap m hair every night before i go to sleep it makes it more manageable in the morning in my opinion. i have long and very thick hair and it really helps to keep my hair looking fresh the next day.

I know what you mean! Use wrapping pins, the don't have ridges in them so they won't put waves or crimps in your hair.They're long and curved to contour to your head. The brand I use is Goody.

after u wrap it and put something to hold it down, take the pins out. thats how i do it so that the pin mark isnt there since it doesnt stay in over night :)

girl u make it look super easy. when i wrap my hair, i have my hand in one place and another part is fallin down. i thought since i cut it wrapping should be easier but its alot harder because shorter/layered hair seperates easier

Yes, but there are variations to our hair as well. A lot of black women relax their curls hair in some form to get it bone straight. Usually, if it's taken care of correctly, we have wavy, curly or spiraled coils.
