@russellpreston1 I know that, Dime was inspired by Metallica as well. But Dime was better musically than Kerry. Just like Eddie Van Halen for example, he was inspired by whoever he was inspired by, but took guitar playing to another level. That's what Dime did. He elevated metal with his playing, if you listen to Slayer or Metallica, it's fast riffs and fast solos (not dissing) when you listen to Pantera or Damageplan, Dime's just skilled dude, he's the Eddie Van Halen of modern metal.
I respect Metallica just as much as Pantera, it made me listen to metal. Alot of people got introduced to metal by Metallica. They made great albums. I dont listen to it alot anymore but still, dont fuck with Metallica, not that you do, but... You know what I mean. James Hetfield is one hell of a good songwriter. The other members just dont cut it with alot of other bands but they fit(ted) the scene perfectly.

@warlockmetal1 their music is too blatantly unoriginal and too much over simplified (lets not bother making an interesting riff) songs. There's a few decent song here and there, and their older stuff is surprisingly better. But the amount of shit people praise is unbelievable.

I mean, who gives a fuck about that? Unless you judge music based on its guitar difficulty, then I dont see any reason that would bother you. And Dime made up for that by doing all the guitarwork alone, putting soul in, playing the best solos, & even the simplest of songs work: "Slaughtered". Tell me that song isnt baddass.

@warlockmetal1 but they didn't create groove, they took a style that was already around and made it mediocre. Listen to "Riding The Storm" or "Conquistadors" by Running Wild, that's putting soul into your music. I will admit Cowboys From Hell has some awesome solos. But "Slaughtered" is totally bland and uninteresing. "13 steps to nowhere" is better, I don't mind that song.

@EnterTheTurmoil All of Dimebags riffs had soul. Pantera never used bullshit fillers. Even if it comes off as a filler, like "25 Years", I hear the soul and work put into each and every song. THATS why Pantera gets their recognition. They arent the fastest or most technical, but their musical intensity is nearly unmatched. Phils vocals were raw and agressive (unless he used cleans) and his lyrics were extremely personal. The general music was heavy. (cont...)

Stop talking about this "soul" crap, it honestly doesn't apply to pantera at all. They changed their style because they weren't getting recognized, they then turned a good idea into shit by making totally bland, degenerate crap and it apparently appealed to angsty teenagers and brain dead "metalheads".

Listen to the solo in Goddamn Electric. That solo is ace, and its not from CFH. Not to mention the solo from "Great Southern Trendkill"...They were WIDELY recognized (in their state, at least) before CFH came. They didnt even change their style. they were just getting heavier with each album, which isnt a bad thing.

I could listen to Pantera everyday because their music was fresh and diverse. I could listen to CFH if i wanted some old school/falsetto/power metal stuff or i could go to the opposite end of the spectrum and go to "Southern Trendkill" for some sledgehammering raw fast metal. Either way, they kept it true and more importantly, it was MUSIC.

@russellpreston1 I know that, Dime was inspired by Metallica as well. But Dime was better musically than Kerry. Just like Eddie Van Halen for example, he was inspired by whoever he was inspired by, but took guitar playing to another level. That's what Dime did. He elevated metal with his playing, if you listen to Slayer or Metallica, it's fast riffs and fast solos (not dissing) when you listen to Pantera or Damageplan, Dime's just skilled dude, he's the Eddie Van Halen of modern metal.

I respect Metallica just as much as Pantera, it made me listen to metal. Alot of people got introduced to metal by Metallica. They made great albums. I dont listen to it alot anymore but still, dont fuck with Metallica, not that you do, but... You know what I mean. James Hetfield is one hell of a good songwriter. The other members just dont cut it with alot of other bands but they fit(ted) the scene perfectly.

Pantera was a glam rock band that became a groove metal band...they are not thrash. dimebag has very talented solos and riffs.Slayer have held the ground for thrash. Kerry king wrote the riff 'goddam electric' on their reinventing the steel album.Plus the countless jam sessions pantera had with slayer. metallicas 'master of puppets' album reign supreme over panteras albums combined

@maximilian208 if your were smart you would know musically Kirk is a way better guitarist.I like Pantera alot more but in terms of technique dimebag was a pentatonic guitarist,I agree so was Kirk but atleast in his earlier days he did it all,pentatonic,arpeggios,sweeps,middle eastern scale,harmonics,natural harmonics,legato triplets,economy picking,you name it.I dont mean to be a dick.
