Heya there, yeah the first tune's called 'The Jewels of the Ocean' or 'Seudan A'Chuain' which is its Gaelic name, a tune composed by my dad, Allan MacDonald. Its really a waltz, but has a feel in 6/4 instead of 3/4. Great to see this video. It's a good recording.
Beautiful waltz, you have reasons to feel proud about it. I´m so happy to have find it, i´m a flute player and it will be soon part of my repertoire of tunes.
Winnie Horan played fiddle in Sharon's band - the same time as Donogh Hennessey and Trevor Hutchinson. She's now in a fantastic American Irish band called Solas - check 'em out!
The tunes are called Jewels Of The Ocean and Lizzie In The Lowground. The second one was written by Liz Carroll. Good stuff.... do you know who's playing guitar?
It's a waltz indeed and it was composed by Allan MacDonald according to the sleeve of the cd "Tunes" by the three musicians in the video. Track 3. It's called the Jewels of the Ocean
And what's really screwy, is that I ALSO play flute and whistle lefty! I can't tell you how many people told me "that's wrong!"- Including my girlfriend!! (who played silver flute) - Now- Years' later, I play Professionally- LEFTY!! lol...
Dave Sheridan has a reallly beautiful version of that waltz on the album: "In Sheridan's Guesthouse"

Is Mike playing a low Eb or D whistle?

He's playing an F whistle here. They're playing the tune i in the key of Bb here, like playing in the key of G on a D whistle.
