Sorry ? We have to Thank the catholic Church that they did so. The Pantheon is the only building of the old room whos kept well. You know why ? Beacuse it was a church. If it wasn't I'm pretty sure it wouldn't exist in his Form today.
@HotElectrotek "what the barbarians didn't do the Barberini (papal family) did"
No one even knows what the inside would have really looked like during Roman times because of such drastic changes made to it. The pope spoke of above removed TONS, literally tons in the hundreds, of bronze to make a silly Christian alter and 80 cannons for the Castle Saint Angelo.
They also used it as a fortress during the Dark Ages, exposing it to damage.
It's safe because the barbarians thought it too beautiful.
@EdikShepherd I dont think so. Due of the Course most of Barbarian were Christians later and the fact, that the Pantheon was a Church...they saved it.
I dont Think the Barbarian had any interest in architecture. If they had. They wouldn't Destroy the Trajan Forum, they wouldn't have destroyed the biggest Public bathing build up by caracalla. The only Buildings which remain stable where The Pantheon and the St. Perters Church.
This is an amazing video of one of the worlds greatest treasures. I still can not believe it is still standing today. The ancient roman architectures and engineers were simply ahead of their time. This is a masterpiece in every which way or form. I am in awe! of it's magnificence and beauty. What a sight it must be to see it live and in person.
Hey everyone! I found a great blog with an article about Rome. It's actually really interesting. It covers all the attractions plus some things I never heard about :S full with pictures. I even left a few comments for some suggestions. Here's the link if your interested:

(theres a space between the . and com since youtube wouldnt let me post the link so make sure you backspace it when you put it into the browser)
When I came inside there I also felt a strong sense of "awe", and I'm an atheist. I'm goin to Rome soon, and then I will visit this temple again. Something is very special about this place.
legend has it when the goths came to sack rome and destroyed many buildings prior hovere when they stepped into the pantheon they fell to their knees in awe and spared the temple.
This was the most magnificent and perfect temple probably ever made and that includes the greek and egyptian buildings of the past ...it may not be as big or elaborate as those but this sure is most pleasing to the eye and not the least spectacular..by the way the dome was covered in bronze originally but the stupid pope from the past had strip it to make dumb cannonballs can you beleive what a moron he was.
It's truly amazing. I've seen many beautiful sites through out the world but my mind always returns to this. Not quite sure why, other than it's simply breath takingley beautiful.
actually the popes, especially the barberini family destroyed much of ancient rome, it wasnt only the barbarians.. its a shame, what if the colloseum, all the baths and the forums were complete..
Just so you know the higher the dome got the less concrete used the walls where thick and had hidden arches within them also the height and the internal diameter are both approx 43 meters amazing. Roman architecture not exceeded as a dome building till the reconassiance or what ever it was. You will know lolz.
El marmol es original,el suelo esta reformado y la cupula esta hecha de cemento porque la tuvieron que reformar antes era un templo pagano pero luego fue cristianizado dentro esta la tumba del pintor rafael
Pretty sure marbles not original the bronze door i think is not very sure. Most of the marble would have been torn down during the sacking of Rome itself. Or other times.
Look up what the Catholic Church did to the Pantheon. It's sickening. They absolutely desecrated it.
Romans would be sad if they looked at their city now and saw that it has been perverted by a series of penis-hat wearing idiots.

@HotElectrotek Perhaps, the tribes that took Rome were known for being more religiously tolerant than others.

@EdikShepherd Yeah, this is an argument.
HotElectrotek 9 months ago
@HotElectrotek And arguments are pointless if the two sides don't reach compromises

the upper dome of the pantheon is made from one solid piece of concrete - no pieces, just one vast monolithic whole - insane huh?

certainly looks well.

Insane indeed. I'd love to see it.

The rome imperium 2000 years ago was so amazing.
I wish from all my heart i could go back to that time and live there as a normal citizen.

I think about that all the time, except I would bring back weapons technology and rule the galaxy with and iron fist!

It's pretty amazing to think that the Romans built something like this 2000 years ago when this would be difficult and take a long time to build now.

I can see why the barbarians spared such a beautiful building. So much of the worlds history and knowledge was lost due to conquest.
