I remember when KROQ used to play this on the air back in '83. I ran down to Poobahs in Pasadena and they had about 5 copies used for a buck a piece and I only picked up one. I'm scheuled to guest DJ a dark wave minimal electro set on KXLU 88.9 FM in a few weeks and I plan to play this along with some Fad Gadget, Polyphonic Size, Hohokam, early Soft Cell, Human League, Depeche Mode material.
Many many thanks for sharing this, I have been revisiting the extended 12 inch mixes of (Vicious Pink Phenomena) tracks like Je T'Aime, Maniac & In The Swim and the later C-Cant You See and Fetish tracks but I have not been able to hunt this down till now! Sounds amazing and Dave Ball's production is so ahead of its time, some parts sound like dance tracks from 88/90 and the later Tony Mansfield mixes are pretty cool as well...anyone seen any MP3 copies for sale?
I can never really remember these people's music but I know they were very much on the scene in Leeds in the new romantic period - and that they obviously knew soft cell well. We all went round trying to pretend we were so much more famous than the person next to us then. If only I'd talked to some of the stars I ignored !
Was Dave Ball ever part of Vicious Pink ? also were the two girls "Rats" & "Delicious" who were resident dancers at the Batley Frontier (then 'Crumpet') part of the band
I remember this tune! I bought the single version when it was released here in Canada. It hit the airwaves and made it in the top 10. This sure brings back a lot of memories! Thanks for posting!
Its "I love to listen to the YMO" and "I'm always playing on a Taito". "YMO" being the band. "Taito" -a Japanese drum. Not sure who did the original transcription but these two lines are incorrect even on the Vicious Pink fan site.
Yeah, I always thought it was a "taito" because it was the only thing I could find that made sense. I still love people's guesses regardless. Mash it up, y'know?
man, superb... 'member recording this off CFNY (New Wave station in Toronto) back in Fall of '83 - still got the cassette (made an mp3 of it) - great to be reunited with it on YouTube - Merci!
Seeing this brought back some great times down the padded cell every Saturday night, anyone remember John, Mick and Sav who used to go there ?.
Some names I remember were Vicky,Lisa, Michaela, Yaz, the Drak pack, Gary as in the Killing Joke fan, also the two Numan clone Dj's were fantastic..........so many names and memories I could go on forever.

@mfactor88 The lyrics are "I've got all the facts of the Datsun" "I like the appliance of science (slogan for Zanusi)
This is an awesome track - i've heard it DJ'd at 33rpm before, sounds good either speed!

Great single ...1982 !!! It's always reminded me a lot of Soft Cell's Sex Dwarf ('81). Thanks for this!

The same girl, cindy ecstasy ,from vicious pink does the backing vocals you hear at the end of soft cells sex dwarf.
sexxdwarf 2 years ago
Cindy Ecstasy was not from Vicious Pink Phenomena-Josephine Warden was. You are correct in saying VPP did backing vocals tho.
