no it's not stupid for they wet down the barrel before the charge is even put in.and the only way for that to ignite is for him to pull the primer and it's not just a stick is the rammer for the cannon

if u try putting a other round in before wetting the inside of the barrel the embers from the last shot will set of the cannon ball when its being rammed in
