Harris said in his presentation on how science can detemine morality that a day will come when we can no longer accept wide disprepancies in how we view the world. This sounds like fascism, where that day will come where people who see the world a certain way will be weeded out.

The "atheism" that was spread by earlier societies was in no way even remotely similar to the atheism that plenty of intellectual atheists of today subscribe to. Let me say it like this. Its impossible to be rational without demading that like everything else, rationality be questioned and critiqued. Religion does not have those checks and balances.

Christianity has evolved throughout history; as more knowledge comes to us from a variety of disciplines, including science, Christianity has not been weakened but strengthened. Some atheists think evolution defeats Christianity but Christians discussed the possibility of evolution long before Darwin and as far back as at least St Augustine.
If Christianity is the word of god, then it wouldnt have to evolve. It would be just as perfect today as it was 2000 years ago. Because the brains of believers react differently when engaging in religious practice, Maher claims this is evidence that religious people are crazy; in the film, Newberg isn't allowed to respond to this charge but in subsequent interviews Newberg explains this isn't what these brain wave scans tell us at all.

@MeteorPhoenix1127 , we have plenty of examples from the 20 century of people killing for an atheist utopia. USSR, Albania, Cambodia, for example. There have been instances of atheist individuals killing people because they hated those people's religion; Harris and Klebold, for example, were atheists with a violent rage against Christians.

But even with all that, if we compare these examples to examples of Christians, Muslims and such killing over religion, the Abrahamic religions win by miles.

But we've seen in history when this has been tried, the great rational society turned into genocide. The new atheists are not yet in power, but their words make it clear, there is no place for religion. What happens to those who won't conform to atheism? Sam Harris suggests they be killed.

Harris said in his presentation on how science can detemine morality that a day will come when we can no longer accept wide disprepancies in how we view the world. This sounds like fascism, where that day will come where people who see the world a certain way will be weeded out.

Also, the word "fascism" is thrown around a lot without people understanding what it means. Explain to me how believing religion will one day die out on its own equal to a corporatist, far-right system.

The "atheism" that was spread by earlier societies was in no way even remotely similar to the atheism that plenty of intellectual atheists of today subscribe to. Let me say it like this. Its impossible to be rational without demading that like everything else, rationality be questioned and critiqued. Religion does not have those checks and balances.

@dudesonman4200 , many atheists today have invented a conflict between reason and religion, because in reality such a conflict does not exist. Christianity has evolved throughout history; as more knowledge comes to us from a variety of disciplines, including science, Christianity has not been weakened but strengthened. Some atheists think evolution defeats Christianity but Christians discussed the possibility of evolution long before Darwin and as far back as at least St Augustine.

@dudesonman4200 , it is not the Word of God that evolves or changes, it is our understanding of it. St. Augustine talked about the possibility of evolution; for example, in his "De Genesis ad Litteram." St Augustine's ideas on evolution are also discussed in "Darwin, A Life in Science."

@sbalusu94 , one example is in Religulous where he is interviewing, I believe it's Andrew Newberg, about brain waves of believers. Because the brains of believers react differently when engaging in religious practice, Maher claims this is evidence that religious people are crazy; in the film, Newberg isn't allowed to respond to this charge but in subsequent interviews Newberg explains this isn't what these brain wave scans tell us at all.

@frickadele Every country on the planet that has 'gun control' has much less crime than USA and, of course, less gun related deaths. There seems to be a coorelation but likely not a causation. There are other factors which make US the world's crime leader, surely, but perhaps the proliferation of firearms doesn't help.

Don't take this the wrong way (I am very liberal and open-minded) but I find it strange that when the subject of racism is broached, people only focus on white people being racist.I grew up in an all black neighborhood, and I can say without a doubt, racism is a serious problem in the black community as well. I'm not saying that white's can't be racist, but I can't help but to wonder why more people do not address the problem with bigotry in the black community. It seems like a double standard.

Saying "honky" doesn't evoke passion because there is no real violent history behind it. White and Christian have kept the most people down historically. That's why we feel it's ok to poke fun at them. The more you have suffered the more leeway you have. Blacks, Jews and Native Americans have much more leeway than anybody else.

Well actually that isn't all ignorance. Black, White, Asian, South American, Inuits, etc....Are all very different. Same basic species but very different creatures. You can make everyone equal on a legal scale *as they should be*, but we are not all the same. Black people have a distinct physical advantage, they are taller, heavier, and better equipped for sports. Asians are smaller that most, lighter etc....there are characteristics of all races based on evolution. Deal with it folks....
