My Pistol shrimp just got mad at a passing hermit crab it came out and snapped at the hermits shell that it lugs around and it rolled over a few times wish I had my camera at the time. My pistol shrimp has one big claw much larger that the other unlike this one in the video I am not sure whats in those rocks.

It's not a pistol shrimp doing that. I have one and I work in an aquatic shop selling marine fish, and they dont 'reach' out like that. You can buy pistol shrimps matches up with Gobies. They work in harmony so both can survive. Pistol Shrimps dont kill all your fish in your tank lol.

in a Fish tank, pistol shrimps can't do much, and they only tend to go after snails and other shrimps.I'm not sure if they can break your glass. but, they have nothing to kill humans with in air, as they make bubbles that do the damage in water. I don't think they'll attack humans either..nor big fish.

well the sonic boom isnt nearly as effective miles beneath sea level as it is ina fish tank... and the shimps that they eat are deaf. thats why it only stuns them. but if they do that to humans, humans have a 120 db limit and the shimp can snap 200 db, it would definitly kill the person who stands near it and makes every1 within range deaf at the very least

It's easy in a salt water tank to not know what's in there - when you buy the live rock, if it's not been thoroughly quarantined and searched before being added to a tank, will come bearing plenty of lift on it - hence it being called "live rock." Most of it is stuff you want (useful bacteria, possibly a cleaner shrimp), some is just pretty (tube worms, snails), and every once in a while you wind up with a pistol shrimp or mantis prawn. Which cannot deafen you unless you put it in your ear.

Ugh, one of my nightmares is that I wind up with a pistol shrimp when I buy new rock.

In the future if you want to prevent more from getting in your tank, quarantine any new live rock that you get and put it in a side tank or bucket or something with one or two cheap little fish that you don't care about. If after a couple of weeks you still have those cheap little fish then you're probably safe; if they've disappeared, start checking holes for pistol shrimp.

I mostly disagree. While a mantis shrimp is much more likely to break the glass of your tank, the pistol shrmps are much, much harder to get rid of because they fit into these teeny tiny crevaces that you can't easily access.
