This will not happen if you TAKE CARE OF IT! I had mine for over a year now and it is in PERFECT CONDITION! This happened to my friends because she was careless and busted it! Nikon is a awesome company!!:)

Just buy a better protective case for the camera. I have a culmann or something and a l20, it does really work for me. I dropped it many times with that case and nothing happened. I had a poor quality case before I bought the new one. The screen of my other camera (l18) got cracked due to dropping it with that bad protective case.
