  • What's the name of the last ship being launched?

  • The Canberra

  • Nice video

  • where's Titanic?

  • could I call those hammers they are using hammers, or is there a more precise technical term?

  • the song is SOOOOO catchy

  • I thought that Harland and Wolff didn't Christen their ships.

  • Only the White Star Line

  • @Aaron1912 WSL didn't name the ship then smash a bottle on the bow. Never happened.

  • @Dirtboy101 Your right. Harland & Wolff never christned their ships since the owners thought it was best not too.

  • @Dirtboy101 Only the Prod ones!

  • @Dirtboy101 That was White Star

  • fantastic video realy great :):)

  • IS THAT THE rms titanic at the first building

  • orange bastards

  • @rabbithog grow up ya silly wee prick you wouldnt have got a job in it anyway you would be too busy sniffing glue, stealing cars and signing on while complaining that there arent any jobs for the likes of me boo hoo [ fucking right there isnt ya scumbag]

  • The last ship is Titanic. I know because I saw another video about it. If the had video, why didnt they get the Titanic leaving the harbor on April 10, 1912???

  • @standingcam yeah thats true..

  • i like to call this lady who sail in her

  • That was AWESOME!!!!! I knew that the HMS Belfast was built there, but not the Canberra O_o!!!

BTW, when did H&W do away with the gantry system built for Titanic. Did it get bombed during WII? :(

  • no,it was taken down in the 60s

  • What's the melody from 0:32?

  • Oh, how lovely to see the Canberra being launched. I was there!

  • i never knew 1 of titanics funnels were fake?

  • Number four was mostly ventilation for the engine room. A chimney did vent smoke from the galleys through #4 at the foremost section.

  • i thought the titanic never had a chirsiting

  • It wasn't.

  • what the name of that Launched ship ? is she White star ? (2:11 - 3:14)

  • (3:15 - 3:41) That is the Britannic one of the White Star Line ships. It was not christened, and you mean the RMS Queen Mary?

  • That 2nd launch was the Olympic, I believe, good ol Olympic and her wonderful career, she blew them all away. she even killed a sub in 1918. And crippled a few other ships.lol.

  • Yeah well I can rebuild Titanic and the others if you want them rebuilt otherwise we can still get it all done anywher4e anytime thses ships must be brought back and I can do it shall we begin then and right now today hmmm!

  • weren't a couple of passenger ferries (Antrim Princess,Galloway Princess and Ailsa Princess)built in the 80's?- For Sealink. I remember my 'Da' working on them.

  • White Star never chrisened their ships.

  • Great image of Canberra's launch. Interesting to see her screws were turning as she enters the water. They certainly don't build them like the beautiful Canberra anymore.

  • I have to say that Canberra, whilst she gained fame in her later life, was certainly no thing of beauty by any stretch - though I would agree that it is a great shame that they don't build passenger liners in the UK or Ireland any more.

  • Wonderful simply wonderful

  • oh my god. tell me how you got this footage

  • From the website britishpathe

  • Could you tell me if the ship that was launched last was the Oriana ?

  • canberra i think mick

  • Thanks Mate.

  • The ship at the end is the Canberra. It was one of the first new passenger liners to be built after the second world war - and the last to be built at Harland and Wolff. It was launched by Dame Pattie Menzies GBE (the wife of the Rt. Hon Sir Robert Menzies PM) on Wednesday 16th March 1960

  • Cheers mate.

  • Another excellent film that tells the story of the days when passenger liners were constantly rolling down the slipways at shipyards just like Harland & Wolff - an industry that has now sadly gone - but nevertheless not forgetten and this film is certainly no exception. KEEP THEM COMING!!!

  • Harland & Wolff still exist, but they are more or less building bridges, and wind turbines.

  • This scene might have been revived had H&W won the QM2 contract in 2000. Instead Cunard gave it to a French shipyard...

  • I would be very interested to know HOW H&W would have launched the Queen Mary 2 - it would have been a logistical nightmare owing to the ships immense size - I bet if John Brown & Co. (Clydebank) had still been open they would have been first choice.

  • @chrisr19897 harland and wolff was about 4 times the size of john browns it still has the biggest dry dock in the world and at its peak employed more men than all the clyde yards put together [approx. 35,000] it was the first yard to build a supertanker so quen mary 2 would have been nno prob, if you can find an aerial shot off the yard it will give you an idea just how big it actually is although some off the buildings are now demolished

  • I remember my Grandpa used to tell me how we were somehow related on his mother's side to the Wolffs. Will have to ask him again exactly how.

  • they wouldnt be white star ships have the bottle smashed over the bow, white star never cristened their vessels

  • it was trueley an amazing time

  • yeah, I wish I could go back!!

  • shame britain does not biuld its own ships anymore

  • Wich ship launched it self?

  • great footage of geopgeic brittannic and the accident one

  • HMS Formidable

  • @Aaron1912 Yeah that ship was so Formidable that she launched her self. ;)

    Could not resist.

  • Great footage of the Britannic being built!

  • Another great video, Mr Aaron1912. So sad no more liners were built at the yard after the Canberra in 1960. With your love of old stuff you should have been born in the 20s!

  • woww! awesome! class olympic ships's!

  • Wonderful cips of ships

  • Great job you never fail to amazes me!!!!:]

  • cool vid
