Sad to hear of Peter being gone ...he was a legend.
These men had a great sense of mleody ..even if they were not always the most accurate in their excution ...younger players should be given a greater insight into their playing style ..particulaly it's musicality and sweetness of sound.
Very sad to hear Peter has passed away. I was lucky to have met him - the most generous man and a great musician, needless to say. I hope he joins Fred Finn up there and they play away....
Great clip. Sad to hear of Peter's passing today. I was lucky enough to play at sessions with him at Charlestown and Feakle. A true gent, a great player.
It's Great to see my uncle FRED Finn on this. I'm living in the home area of Killavil where these two musicians are from and Peter Horan is still going strong. What a mighty duo. But they could at least get the names right
I have always thought that the two 70s-coke-dealer-chic dudes in the back just have a sort of helpless, painfully out-of-place vibe to them; especially the disco lizard with the shades. They have a look like "what the? how did we end up here getting filmed with these old Irish dudes?...Oh well might as well make the best of it and give a listen." lol
How lovely to hear these two playing again! Fred and Peter were a renowned duet until Fred's death in January 1986, but Peter is still going strong on both flute and fiddle. He even flew to America to celebrate his 80th birthday last year.
I'm surprised no one's commented for a month! All we do is sit on our computers all day! I mean, where is the joy in life without art? Without music? No where to be found!
I heard these superb musicians more than once when I was a wee scrawny boy, totally in awe of them then and now. Martin Mulhaire's, The Music in the Glen and McFadden's are the tune names.
Amazing. I play both flute and violin, but I haven't tried fiddle stuff on either of them. I thought I was bad at getting the rosin off of my violin. XDD
Lovely music from two great musicians played in the beautiful Sligo style. Remember a session in a pub in Boyle, County Roscommon with these two boys many moons ago.
After listening through once more I founnd out that first one was Mulhaire's, anyone that have a name for the two other. I've heard the second before, but can't name it
What is the second reel that is played? Thanks in advance!

Without Sligo and Roscommon there would be no Irish traditional music. We might have fuck all else but at least we have the music!

Peter was an inspiration and a gentleman, who lived for his music!
It would be nice to think they are playing together again in a mighty session with some of the other Sligo legends.

Saddened at the passing of Peter today, him and Fred put Killavil on the map but no doubt theres a good session going on up above!!!

Peter has a great flute sound across the range of his playing ...not harsh but with good presence.
Also note the ''non smiling'' embuchure ....see James Galway's lesson on utube for comments!
