This could have been a great movie. The music is extremely out of place. Special effects sucks. The acting sucks. Realistic? The guy walks away from; a car crash, a bear trap, a dog that would have ripped his arm of irl, a missile in the back, falling down in freezing cold water without a scratch. i actually think the trailer does not depict the film - it only emphases some moments which i didn't find truly important for the message. I watched it not from a political perspective. Leaving aside the context, it is a story about a man trying to survive and what that comes with. Every killing he does is portrayed as being done because there is no other option - as Skolimowski said, it is a struggle, a man reduced to an animal state by his need to survive.

Once I had accustomed myself to the deliberate lack of dialogue, I actually found this film captivating and refreshingly different. It is purely about surviving and the depths to which a person can sink in order to stay alive. It fascinated me.

had Skolimowski spent half hour watching any programme by Ray Mears he would have got this at least half right, instead it came across as lazy and ill written, In a later incident Gallo' protagonist suffers a chest wound which would result in a secondary pneumothorax or collapsed lung this would immobilise any individual yet he manages to soldier on through deep snow drifts at a pace faster than most healthy people could manage after hours with food or shelter in such conditions

But the human will to survive can be immense, he did eat a sandwich, some ants, some lichen, a fish, hallucinogenic berries and some human milk though, which made his ability to survive more credible.
