  • i'm getting one of these as well from wally world

  • Few questions..if the gun is totally empty, can you see light through the primer seat? Also, can an unspent primer be removed just as easily as a fired one?

  • More details please. Especially for safety. I load shotshells and it is critical that you use a certain type of primer, certain type of powder. Is this the case for muzzleloading? or can I just use any gunpowder and any primer?

  • @mlor1333 I know for sure that modern smokeless powder, used for cartridge reloading CAN NOT be used.

  • Good video. Nice and detailed with very clear instructions. Thanks for sharing.

  • ill stick to bow shootin

  • Can you use latex gloves to touch the pellets.

  • @lalablablaification You probably won't have any problems if you want to do it that way.

  • Get a real muzzleloader. Flintlock or forget it.

  • @becious I'm sorry, I thought that it was a "muzzle loader" based on the fact that it is loaded from the end of the muzzle, not on what kind of setup is used to ignite the powder.

  • @becious you are a faggot

  • By tapping down you're probably crushing the pellets. Hodgdon advises you not "tap" down like that when seating the bullet over their pellets, and warns you that pellets should not be subjected to impacts. To quote their large print warning from their page:

WARNING: Do not pound on ramrod or seat projectile with excessive force so as to crush Pellet.

  • Looks really pointless. Though seems like most old weapons have got this now; make a high tech version of an outdated weapon, thus totally obliterating the point of using an outdated weapon.

Instead of spending thousands on ridiculously overdeveloped muskets, bows and crossbows, why not just buy a bunch of 22s? Or better yet; historically accurate builds of outdated weapons.

  • I'm going to assume that that is the way you load all muzzeloaders since you never mentioned the model of the gun

  • @2utubular I'm going to assume you are being sarcastic. This is the basic procedure for loading a muzzle loader, although in some cases you will use powder and a ball instead of pellets and a sabot type bullet. Also, not all muzzle loaders have such a conveniently packaged primer, and this video does not show you how you would actually be able to fire one of those, but it is likely that you would be able to load it.

  • You should mention that "something behind it" should not be anything very hard or metallic to avoid ricochets.

  • your suppost to tap the rod to settle the bullet with crushed powder idk about the pellets though

  • use blackhorn209 and then use some hornady sst bullets

  • Very good job!

  • @DerFiendr Also, you don't really need a "high powered rifle" to take down game efficiently. Let me put this in perspective:

The round used in the extermination of the buffalo was a .45-70. A .45 caliber bullet with 70 grains of black powder. Nowadays we use a 50 caliber bullet and 100/150 grains of black powder. The .45-70 could drop buffalo.

For the slow reload, if you can't hit a deer on the first shot, stay the hell out of my woods.

  • i prefer gun powder i find the pellets make a lot of mess!!!

  • @justinp3354 Yea, someone else said that to. I made this almost 2 years ago though, it was a little harder for me to get the bullet to set right without tapping it.

  • Where r u at In michigan

  • @derfeindr, in some states, like Iowa where I live, it's the next best thing to hi power rifles which we cannot use unless it's for the special season in January (doe only). It gives you more seasons to hunt as well. Plus, they're flat out fun to shoot.

  • What are the benefits of modern muzzle loaders? I mean, this weapon has clearly no "historical value", so, why would anyone use one?

  • good job. nice vid nioce... easy.. simple.... good work

  • a good way to test the amount you need is to lay i white sheet infront of the muzzle on the ground when you shoot. you will see any extra powder as black dots on the sheet. theres no reason to load a lot of powder if it doesn't all burn. this is more effective on loose powder but it still could work. also another reason muzzleloaders are around is hunting in some states. they allow for extra hunting time in many states and are just as deadly as a centerfire round ( with obvious limits)

  • Black powder is cheaper when you shoot patched round ball. I'm not sure if that can be done in inlines, but check out my video on traditional muzzleloader. A different animal. Even flintlock and percussion cap are different beasts. Lanephotography is one of my favorites here. My daughter watches his BP teachings. Thanks

  • why do you need two 50 grain pellets wouldn't one be enough

  • @44magguy1 Now I would use three...I used two back then to decrease the recoil. The powerbelt bullets I use are pretty heavy, so I wouldn't be very confident about it's ability to travel far or flat with only one pellet behind it.

  • @Lanephotography222 ok thanks

  • @Lanephotography222 yes always shoot three pelets.. its way faster bullet travel and when that deer is in front of you, you wont feel any recoil

  • @Lanephotography222 i use 1 pellet and the same exact bullet as ur using. every deer iv shot with that gun i killed and claimed, one pellet is plenty

  • @44magguy1 i use 1 pellet with my muzzle loader im 14 and have killed 9 deer with that gun, and 2 very nice bucks one scored 132 and the other 125 one was a 10 and the other an 8, and i shot the 8 40 yards away and he ran bout 15 yards and dropped. 1 pellet is perfect for me

  • @400mattandryan r they 50 grain pellets because the least i have used to kill a deer with is 80 grains and he ran about 1/4 of a mile

  • @rmpursiful75 they are 50 grain with a 223 grain bullet. ive used 1 pellet ever since i got the gun, im 15 and have killed a lot of big deer with it. the 132 inche 10 point i killed ran kinda far but it was a double lung shot and i knew i hit the deer it was like 40 yards but no blood. so we found a few peices of hair and i knew i hit it but still no blood then waited the night over to look for it the next day still no blood and i just went looking for it all over the woods

  • @rmpursiful75 and found it, and the 8 point i shot just a few weeks ago iwas in the same stand and it was standing almost in the same spot as the 10 point i shot the 8 it turned around ran about 5 or 10 yards and dropped. sorry abbout the big story but yes there 50 grain bullets haha

  • @44magguy1 and i use the exact same bullets as him also

  • would a muzzleloader be good for a 13 year old

  • what is the advantage of using a muzzle loader? is it that much cheaper than regular rifle bullets? Can you shoot deer with it because 50 cal is a big round, so does it still have enough power? A European here so no clue whatsoever.

  • @kloneo In the area I live in, it is illegal to use a rifle for deer hunting, so during gun season I can either use a shotgun or a muzzleloader, so the price doesn't really matter. Also, a 50 caliber bullet is way more than enough to take down a deer. I have heard of people using a 17 HMR for deer hunting, although I would never go that small.

  • @Lanephotography222 hey what kind of rifle is that

  • @themusclehamsta1 What rifle are you referring to?

  • @Lanephotography222 the one you are loading and shooting, i havent seen one like that before

  • @themusclehamsta1 Oh, I thought you might have been talking about the 17HMR I mentioned. It's a Thompson Center Omega Z5 50. Cal.

  • informative

  • Did not mean to offend you. Just how it looked. Thanks for reply.

  • This had to be the biggest flinch before the shot ever! Other than that... decent amount of show'n'tell. Next time maybe little more info on brands, weights, etc. Good shooting!

  • @01089441 I think what you're talking about is a part where I had to cut and patch together the video because of some issues that came up with it. Watch the leaves on the trees when it happened. I've been shooting too long to flinch ;)

  • Great vid.

Sad thing, that bullets youre using are illegal in my country. Here you can use only lead rounds (worse ballistic)

  • Comment removed

  • i heard muzzleloaders r still around today is because they rarly jam unlike a rifle, shotgun, or pistol and plus they r just pure fun. and a muzzleloader is mostly carryed by a survivalist

  • @JayByrd319 I wouldn't say that. Muzzleloaders are only around because of personal preference. They won't jam but the likelihood of a misfire is greater due to fouling of primers or damp powder. If you compare the same number of shots between a muzzleloader and a centerfire you'll notice the muzzleloader will misfire more. Also survivalist generally go for centrefire/rimfire, easier to carry ammunition, less change of powder fouling, less fuss. My 2 cents.

  • @n238900 ok thanks i was going to get a muzzeloader but i got the ol' ruger 10/22

  • no it just to show ur that damn good lol

  • Now my response to all the why use a muzzle loader questions. Re-connects us to a time when that's all there was and what was used to win this country. Powder or propellant is fairly easy to come by / make. I can always melt some wheel weights / sinkers to make a bullet. If all goes to hell I'll have a firearm when I need it. It extends the season for deer hunting. I can also use it in some shotgun only zones It's something not all the other sheep do..

  • Not a bad instructional for loading a modern muzzle loader (ML). I still prefer the authentic style of muzzle loading, which is no less effective, and prob more accurate. I realize that the only reason for using that type of ML is to extend your time in season. That being said, if you wish to improve accuracy, you don't need to add fiber optics, use loose powder. Loose powder allows you to work up the most accurate load for your rifle that those pellets never can. Good luck and good hunting.

  • whats the advantage of a single shot muzzeloading, black powder rifle. Would'nt a bolt action rifle with modern gunpowder be better to hunt with?

  • @Mauser2012 Probably, but it's not legal to deer hunt with a rifle in Michigan, so it's either a shotgun or a muzzleloader, or a bow of course.

  • @Lanephotography222 same in ohio

  • @Lanephotography222 Actually, you can hunt with a rifle starting north of US-10 (approximately). Shotgun or muzzleloader south of that line. Good video.

  • @Lanephotography222 Acually you can hunt with a rifle north of US-10 (approximately). Shotgun or muzzleloader only to the south.

  • never "tap down" when using powder pellets, you can crush them and have a hang fire or no fire at all.

  • I was thinking about buying a muzzle loader. Thanks for the informative tutorial! I know how to load a muzzle loader now.

  • Because some states, such as NJ, only allow Muzzeloading. No rifles, due to population density.

  • I love huntin' and I all, but I seriously do not see the point of using a muzzle-loader to do it. With all the center-fire and rim-fire rifles, bolt action and semi-automatic, why would someone want to go through all the hassle of using a muzzle-loader? It still confuses me.

  • @CreateAccount649

Or in Canada a flintlock muzzle loader is the only weapon you can buy without going through a training course and having to get 'Possession And Acquisition' (PAL) License.

  • @CreateAccount649 "With all the center-fire and rim-fire rifles, bolt action and semi-automatic, why would someone want to go through all the hassle of using a muzzle-loader? It still confuses me."

In addition to my 3 centerfire rifles, 2 rimfire rifles and a Les Baer .45 (all quite up to the task of hunting) I got into muzzle loading for the history and challange that each shot is a reload and unique to the conditions at hand (temperature, humidity, elevation and expected distance).

  • can i ask, what is the point of a muzzleloading fire arm today?

  • @TheAlexagius That's obvious! It's...umm...Well you know it's...uhhh...Everyone knows that...uhhh....:S

  • Because some states, such as NJ, only allow Muzzeloading. No rifles, due to population density.

  • @TheAlexagius it's fun, it's classic, it's cheaper for more power, you can make your own loads, you dont have brass to pick up afterwards, and it's still able to kill every thing on the face of the earth

  • @TheAlexagius What's the point of owning a classic car? or any other pre-modern thing.

More practically, most states differentiate between muzzleloading/black powder and the more modern catridges. So it allows people to use both, hunt with both and just be a part of some history.

  • @TheAlexagius its fun.. same reason you'd fire a rifle instead of a pistol etc... they're all different and all provide a different type of entertainment and what not.

  • @TheAlexagius just like anything else. Whats the point of sex if even if you dont want any babies. So many answers to your question one wouldnt know where to start. You have to think outside the box dude.

  • @TheAlexagius all for the fun of it like any other guns

  • @TheAlexagius the point is to go hunting/shooting with a more compicated and challenging rifle for a better hunting/range experience

  • You put a primer in when firing also?

  • All good except you should mark the ramrod in an empty and loaded barrel. Can't count on a primer always igniting the charge.

  • I'm only 11 and I just got a muzzleloader. I weigh 86 pounds I'm rly skinny. How much grams should u put into the gun bcuz the kick hurts my arm with some guns like 12 gages and even 20 guages. Thanks

  • @christian3309 put in 100 for just shooting anf 150 if your shooting a deer.....Muzzle leaders dont really have alot of recoil. A 20 gauge has more recoil that a 100g muzzleloader charge

  • Well done. Thanks for the great video! This is why I like YouTube.

  • @2ndmileproductions Thank you!

  • You opened the bullet packaging wrong.

  • @ekoenigshof Lol

  • too late. BANG!! Your dead!!!

  • hey your finger touched the powder lol

  • @MegaHunterman I had to to get it off the pipe cleaner...but it was only my finger nail.

  • So would you recommend a T/C muzzleloader? And how's the recoil, considering the caliber?

  • Thanks, my uncle just left me one and I have not shot it yet.

  • In your next video you might consider altering the ramming part when the bullet wasn't completely seated. This tapping or ramming impact may have an effect on the accuracy of the shot. I read somewhere to never let the ramrod break contact with the bullet all the way down. If the bullet isn't seated as far down as you want it, press a lot harder.

  • im thinking about buying the omega. is it worth it? you can get it for $300 at cabelas right now.

  • @NYhunter4 There is a website by the name of "gunbroker" that I got my omega from for $150 used, and it works great. It's like the eBay for guns. Check it out

  • That's one big ass primer

  • My voice in this video really bugs me now.

  • what model muzzleloader is that

  • @cabelas9731

    It's a Thompson Center Omega Z5 50.Cal

  • I've always preferred a good old fashioned flintlock rifle, its just more reliable, and you dont need all these fancy pellets and such..

  • man i got jiped i bough an old traditonal loader and it damn near cost me a testicle but u dont need a pal for older ones mine was 460$ :(

  • stupid ass a flint are a drum is harder to load

  • you dont really have to screw in the brass head thing

  • i fi had to do all that to load a modern muzzleloader i would just use one of the old ones like a drum or flint lock

  • Haha yea, except it really only takes like a minute if you know what you're doing. Takes longer to explain it all and show the camera. Nice name.

  • i think modern muzzleloaders are for cheaters that only want to hunt in the muzzleloading season.

  • Well that's definitely not true, I also hunt with a bow throughout the season. Hunting is better before gun season opens because the deer aren't all freaked out yet.

  • @MultiHobbyman its a lot easier to load in the field when you have another animal in front of you

  • @MultiHobbyman wow your such an idiot

  • Nice video keep up the good work.

  • Thanks :)

  • nice video. what kind of muzzle loader is that and how much does it usually run?

  • It's a Thompson Center Omega Z5 50.Cal. And I'm not sure about the price, but i searched it for ya and found it at this site for $315.99....That's the exact gun I have so it's probably pretty close on price.

  • I'm sorry, for some reason youtube will not allow me to post my comment with the link in it, and I tried to post it separately but that didn't work either :/

  • thank you for making the video...i recently bought a muzzleloader for dear season, and this video helped. thanks

  • No problem, thanks for commenting :)

  • congrats on the doe hunt,, im dyin to head out and hunt....

  • no sarcasm i recently brought a 50cal and this video help alot......thanks

  • Oh, well you're welcome, and thanks for commenting :). By the way I got a doe with this gun opening day of gun season.

  • thanks for the video it was very helpful........

  • Lol, is that sarcasm or are you serious? :o I only made this cuz i had a class i needed to make a how to video for and had to post it on youtube. Lol
