When I was a senior in high school I listened to this album over and over again. During that summer I used to go swimming all the time, and then lie in the sun and listen to this song and feel the heat of the sun and the cool of the water and listen to this album on my cd player. Best natural high ever. This song is like time travel for me, I hear that guitar and I'm immediately back there lying next to that pool.
I always like original studio version as song is not distorted as we see in public performance. I have cried a lot for my GF, I still carry the pain with heavy heart, I hope she will one day return to me. There would be sunshine after rain... why worry excellent
I hearing this Album at first time on my Trip to Scandinavia. The best music to drive Truck's in Scandinavia..........the silent voice from the V8 and the Dire Straits in the Radio..........only the morning Sun and me on the Road......yess.. i love this moments

can anybody remember when they use to have this as backing music to an old analogue digital tv station that showed pictures from the international space station as it looked down on earth very apt as it is a very spacy and beautiful track
Smooth and gentle and so, so simple. Perfect in every way. I listen to this wonderful track whenever I'm missing beloved friends and family members I've lost. Consolation is a subtle force, and this tune has it in spades.
i could listen to this all night!!!!...funny how your tastes in music change, 20 years ago i could'nt stand dire straits.. Now though, i think i have all that mark and the group has ever recorded... that must be 34-35 albums...whole lot of music from one man and he is still going strong...nobody bettet.....thankyou mark...
Beerdigung? Na dann. Tut mir leid. Das erinnert mich an das Blau der Mexikanischen Riviera, Cervesa and tiger prawns at the beach, und die Rochen im Wasser.
My dad always used to listen to dire straits. i grew up with them :')
Now when i listening to this it makes me cry, cus it reminds me of the roadtrips i had with my family, which now is torn apart by divorce and religion! :'(
@LedHed65 in my opinion, religion is ruining everything.. you can`t live the life you really want to, there`s always going to be conflicts about it and it brainwashes people "/
@islandofrock you are SO far off base on this song it is sad! He's saying why worry about things you can't control, or change. And if you want to take it as far as you did... WHY WORRY, lol. The fact that you refer to Jesus as a pill makes me believe maybe your medications are not working correctly. God helps those who helps themselves ;)
To all you folks that say there is plenty reasons to worry, country at war etc. Listen to the lyricks in this song, please... It's a beautyful song. It has nothing to do with the worlds situation. It's just a man that comforts his loved one.
SORRY FOLKS WE HAVE REASON TO WORRY..OUR COUNTRY IS AT WAR...IF YOU WANT WARMTH FROM THE COLD HARD TRUTH OF WORLD MUSIC IS A GOOD PAIN KILLER BUT ITS STIMULATION WEARS OFF...JESUS IS THE PILL WE ALL NEED,PER SAY...LOVE U ALL!!!!!
@islandofrock: people who believe that praying to jesus is all we need to do to solve the world's problems.. THAT's reason to worry. Not to mention ALL CAPS.

sometime in the late 80s i had a girlfriend (go on guess the rest) who i thought was woderful, I thought I was in love. She lied to me and dumped me... she was married and had children... yes I was a sap! After she dumped me ( Yes I had it coming for being a sap) I drove home. As I pulled up this was playing. It rolled over me like cleansing rain, catharsis. I've been lovingly married for over twenty years to the woman I met next, we have two wonderful children and I thank God for being dumped!
sometime in the late 90s i had a girlfriend, but i was so stupid and too young; i was thinking that life is like a..dream and party. Five years after the separation we meet, just looking thinking we will always in love, but another, only in heart. I have a wonderful family, but this song is like a time machine - evening -room in university academian-candle..
If you will waiting that life will make all for you, you can loose your dream. After 15 years no week without thinking about her..
@bardi7 Happened to me 3 weeks ago.....girl I loved got married to another guy who I had no idea about, I learned about it from facebook....I feel pretty low and songs like this help me get through this....hope I will be as lucky as you and find the right one
@bardi7 - I think I know what you mean, in a way - I went through some terrible breakups, I thought it was the end of the world, I was SURE that I'd lost the person I was meant to be with forever, and....yup, after all that, I did finally meet the perfect person for me. And, like you, I realized that if this other guy hadn't dumped me, I wouldn't have met the person I'm with now! Sometimes, being dumped is a blessing!
When I hear this song, I just want to see my wife hold her and tell her not to worry! I miss her. Great sung. I gave it a thumbs up! :-) Good day you al!
The part right after the middle until the end is truly... uplifting and somewhat gave me that calm sense of courage and comfort. As if the sun comes shining on my face and dry my tears away. I'm not sad and I'm not afraid anymore.
jan, they are without doubt one of the best bands of all time, and brothers in arms is one of the best albums ever. i meant the media / radio dont give them the airtime they deserve
Havent heard this song for years. Not that I didnt want to just that haven't had the courage to do so. When my dad was in hospital in 2001 this played on the radio. He died after 3 weeks of being there of cancer which we never knew he had until he was admitted. More than 9 years later have just theard this on youtube and it brings a tear to my eye. RIP Dad. No more worries..............
@adidriver1 Wish your Dad rest in peace. I got the similar feelings when my father got heart attack last year.luckily he survived but I realized the importance of father and the feelings of being without father which I never realized before despite of his immense contribution to every stage of my life. Hope your father will find happiness in life after death sure
This song just lifts my spirits and makes me forget all my worries. Life is not a bed of roses, everyone goes through troubles some point in their life, For some though worries last for a long time. I just hope that someday all worries fade away not only for me, but for all of you out there.
I am sure sunshine will come after rain for all of us, just as Mark Knopfler says.
Fields, sunny days woodlands, being about 6 or 7 my dad playing whole album to me over and over, makes me smile and remember how wonderful it is, i later screwed up proffesionally through life and nearly finished myself off through drugs, im now with my one week old daughter, clean for 6 years and playing it too her in my arms, its so timeless , my daughter layla will hopefully know it too as she gets older and have memorys as i do and understand how great it is, the whole album is a legend
@taekwondude7 Ok, thanks. It has a definite Everly Brothers vibe to it, so I assumed it was written by them. The first time I heard this song it was by the EBs, and only heard the Dire Straits version after. Thanks again for the correction!
This song was playing at the end of the y2k New Years Eve Party, "The Last Prom," and early the next morning, Portland was still there, exausted. The remaining guests dozing in the fading firelight as this alum played while the sun rose over the year 2000.
This is unique, original, sensitive and stands out above so much bull shit music. Not met by anything else. Direc Straits and Mark Knoppfler are amazing. Thanks for posting this great memory.
It sounds so warm... It sounds like if you would hold a baby in your arms. It sounds like if you would sing your baby a song so that it can fall in sleep.....
Mark: you're a god. I fell in love with this song the moment I heard it. The first song I ever listened to on my turntable. So many other incredible songs you've written. This got me through one of the most difficult break-ups I ever had. You'll never see this, but I'm so grateful.
This song is a perfect metaphor for anyone who has been dealt a bad hand in life, or been treated in a shitty way, to sit down, have a beer, smoke a joint, and basically tell the world to go fuck itself. And believe me, I've felt like that a hundred times!
Thank you, Mark Knopfler, for reminding me so gloriously that bullshit can always be shovelled back onto the heap after a while.
@kooz914 Well, thank you Richard Simmons, your condescending remarks have changed my attitude to life overnight. There is no such thing as crime, and the governments and banks are definitely not robbing us blind. I have now decided to join you in the utopia known as Cloud Cuckoo Land.
@azapro911 nothing to add, nothing to take away. I've just stood up back on my feet after being literally fucked out from my family by my ex forced to leave my daughter with her... Very good comment.
@tomaszwolf ....I hope everything is getting easier for you, same happened to me, I never saw my daughter for 15 years. Just hang in there, stand for what you know is right and never let anyone try to bring you down, then you can always hold your head up high. It gets easier with time.Best wishes.

@nurktwin1960 NOOOO. this is the original. The Everly Brothers made a rendition, as well as chet adkins, but Mark wrote the original

@taekwondude7 Ok, thanks. It has a definite Everly Brothers vibe to it, so I assumed it was written by them. The first time I heard this song it was by the EBs, and only heard the Dire Straits version after. Thanks again for the correction!

@nurktwin1960 If it had been released already it surely would have been advertised. Are you going to get it when it comes out?

@azapro911 Maybe if you changed your attitude and get off the weed, you could deal with life better. Scrubs.
