  • This is a song written by a man who saw people in his life that he loved and knew would be gone before his lifetime. It is no wonder he wrote this song about the gift of life and the precious moments spent wisely- often too lately realized after.

  • it is poignant and sad i remember as a child the first time he sang this now all these years later his voice aged he still plays that guitar with a great talent and his aging voice makes the song more real.

  • awesome!

  • eu amo roy

  • Tears from my eyes... remembering my folks.

  • Not everyone sings with the emotion he puts into it, and he put more even emotion into his playing. I love the voices AWA. (As we age)

  • Roy has made a parody of his song.

  • Grew up on a farm in Indiana. HEE HAW, like church. This guy is an amazing guitar player. Gay as Truman Capote, but excellent nonetheless.

  • Heartbreaking.

  • This man is a great underestimated artist.

  • Roy Clark - Glenn Campbell - George Benson. Three greatest guitar players who went on to international careers as singers. Even so it is their guitar playing that is their real claim!

  • So beautiful it hurts. A lot.

  • This is how I once lived in my youth chasing after the things of the world, and all the vanities of self gratification. How very foolish was I.

Now, in my last days, the Lord by His grace has changed my heart to the truth and to live unto Him and for the things that are eternal with Christ.

May there be a great many hearts changed in these last days.

  • Very moving!

    Thanks!

The Lord bless you Roy...the eternal joys are soon to come and never end!

  • Once In A Summer :3

  • well I have never faced a this sort of thing, people knowing ur below ur best because of age..but he did it.i wish 1 day to do..don't worry i'm pissed just back from the local

  • @ranthony1903 I think I know what you are trying to say. Yes, a young Roy Clark also was great with this song. He has just the right voice. I'm thinking of the Charles Aznavour version that for some reason is so popular. Very powerful voice but does not fit this song at all.

  • This song says it all Roy is the best

  • Beautiful.....

  • I feel so grateful to live in the time frame that was shared by Roy Clark. You have brought so much to so many. Thank you, thank you...hugs & smoochies, Mary

  • Mickey Mantle's Dying Request, that Roy play this at his funeral......always evokes sadness.....your timing is Impeccable the way you sing this.....and the Chords sing from your guitar as well!

  • Thank you Roy That was absolutely Beautiful. Saw you sing this many many years ago, No one can sing it as well as YOU. Thank You

  • Take a look at history, folks. If you don't know much about Roy, have a look at some of the videos and you'll see!

  • wonderful .. thank you : )

  • A master of his trade - Roy is a Legend

  • I loved this song way back in the day ..ie "yesterday when I was young"..and I love it even more now

  • What was great he got the standing O as he should. A most Beautiful song as I listen, I have lived... Thank You...

  • I Love this guy and his music

  • Fabulous rendition of a great song by an aging virtuoso who has more talent in one of his fingers than most guitarists have in 10.

  • Hauntingly beautiful

  • ROY CLARK IS AMAZING!!!

  • Soulful.

  • Mr. Roy Clark is the greatest string artist of all time galen

  • Roy Clark, amazing!

  • The Baseball great Mickey Mantle loved this song.He felt that it explained his life...He had met Roy and asked him to sing this song if he were to die..Roy said okay, but felt it was more of a polite but not serious request.. When Mickey was dying he called Roy and spoke with him..Roy sang this song at Micks funeral, not a dry eye in the place..Class just class

  • @RockLives4u I couldn't have said it better!

  • I, too, saw Roy Clark in 1990 in Nashville, when they were still producing Hee Haw. What a joyful man....This is his signature song.........so very thought provoking about for those of us who have 'grown old' along with Roy. Thank you, Roy, for making your wonderufl music.

  • Roy sounds like the rest of us OLDIES and is having a hard time getting thru this song. One can certainly tell he has his heart and soul in it. One of the worlds greatest.

    Many thanks for posting it.

  • This has always been my favorite, but now it brings new meaning by the way he sang it here.

  • One of the greatest in the history of music forever

  • This onemade me cry. I loved Roy Clark from the early days. I'm feeling this song more than you can imagine. I want it layed as they prepare to put me in the ground.

  • This onemade me cry. I loved Roy Clark from the early days. I'm feeling this song more than you can imagine.

  • Yesterday.. when I was young- I remember Roy came ot with this song- it remains one of my life's favorites- God Bless you Roy, you are much loved....

  • Yesterday was 1968; I was leaving for Vietnam; how did these last 40+ years go bye? If you are in love; hold the person you are with tight; while we still have today....

  • Bravo! Funny how the message always seems to really hit home no matter who is listening. What a truly sad and beautiful song. God Bless You Roy.

  • A master musician with an appreciative audience. It doesn't get any better !

  • may i call u an angel .. but angels might be shy coz they are not what who u are my friend , many blessings and loveeeeee for u and this is from a pakistani born man :) people love u from alllllllllllllllll ovr the world

  • this is sweet.

thank you so much for posting this.

  • ABsolutely Beautiful, sad song with so much emotion...I shed a tear everytime I hear this. Thank you for posting.

  • This is even more poignant being sung by an older man whose voice is going. It is not meant to be sung by a young man with a strong voice.

  • @whonjectr - He has always done this song with so much emotion, I have often wondered if he related this story to his own life. I have met Roy Clark "if you check my youtube channel you will see my meeting with him. He seems like such a wonderful and kind man. And we all remember that funny seemingly very kind man that we watched on Hee Haw. I wonder why he associates so closely with this song.

  • @whonjectr great comment and my feeling exactly

  • @whonjectr Very well said!

  • @whonjectr I agree. Even I, aged 36, thinks of this song with sadness. I miss my youth and wish I could live it once more. I can't :(

  • @JanErikEdvartsen I was at Downtown Disney tonight and I had this song in my head. Brought back many memories of the past there. Seeing all the young couples made it even stronger.

  • @polarisathena I feel ya, bro! Just remember, be friends and accept your feelings, even the negative and upsetting ones. But don't dwell on them. That's something I've discovered recently. Remember this, and good luck.

And remember, life is worth living until the very last second you stop breathing, my friend!

  • @whonjectr Roy Clark is a MASTER at anything!

  • good song great entertainer

  • I saw Roy play this at The Mick's funeral. I knew it was coming but cried like a baby anyway.

  • Every time,I watch this show it puts a lump in my throat. I've really touched by this song. Pure Country. One of my favorite legend.Thanks.

  • Roy,

You used to sing this so nice, but it sounds like you are singing under water. I am sad that your voice is gone.

  • Continued... Secondly, Roy was recognized many times as Performer of the Year, Musician of the Year, and Humorist of the Year by the CMA through most of the 1970's. He is also a member of the Grand Ol' Oprey and The Country Music Hall of Fame.

  • I'd like to address the comments that Roy is underrated as a guitarist. I agree that he should be on those lists that both serious experts and complete idiots publish (read Rolling Stone Magazine) of the greatest guitar players of all time. First of all these lists are meaningless. You can not rank these musicians. Tell me, who is a greater artist... Frank Lloyd Wright, Leonardo DeVinci, Ansel Adams, or Vera Wang? Secondly, Roy was recognized many times as Performer of the Year, Musician of the

  • This version, performed some 40+ years after he first recorded it; takes on a whole new meaning now. The song is different now, of course his voice has changed. But it is just as beautiful now as it was way back when. Thank you Roy Clark for your contributions to my life and so many others. God Bless You

  • A true artist, a true musician, a true legend!

  • I love Toy Clark..a great man. A great heart. This perfornance is sad. Roy's voice is but shadow of his glory days...but he is still singing witth feeling. it's shame the modern counrty world does not appreciate the songwriting ability and ethics and morality of one of the last living Counry Legends.

  • I'm an old pro band member, this song is one I want to be recognised for its genius, and the way it can speak to - - - - - Thanks Roy, from a discriminatory, FAN.

  • Few people have ever been blessed with more talent. Roy Clark is one of my favorite guitar players, though he never received the recognition of the rockers. It's a real shame because Roy could outplay most of them. I wish him all the best in his golden years. May God continue to bless you, Roy.

  • 3:43 the Tear.....what more could i say?!?...fantastic

  • When did this take place? Is this from 2010?

  • This is kind of the way I feel, and all the money in the world means nothing if you have no one you love to share it with. It just lets you know life is short, and in then end you can't take it with you. I have lost many that were close to me, and the love of my life as well. If you want to see her look at the videos I have posted about her. Laura: Love of my life. It's a 4pt series. This also makes me think of my dad as well, and so many videos that will never make it on here as well.

  • See that guy in the back playing bass That's my uncle Tony Walter

  • I have great respect for you Mr Roy Clark.

  • Roy Clark is wonderful person who has entertained so many through the years. I never grow tired of listening to his music, songs and watching his talent & ability to play.

I read Jimmy Dean's information after his death and could not believe he fired Roy Clark.

  • By my account per Wikipedia, Mr. Clark is 77 now and still makes moving music. He entertained us on Hee Haw when I was growing up and I was always in awe of him. What a moving song. Oh to write a song with that much emotion.... Even more fitting now. WOW. My generation will never forget his contribution to music. Just as much, I will never forget his humor. Hope it was as fun to do as it was to watch. Amazing man. Amazing contribution to music. But more important, amazing man.

  • Class Act. Great Talent!

  • Look at the tears he brings,,,people just love this man.

  • @silencetraitors - how could anyone not love this man? He is such a kind soul, and an awesome showman. Even to those who do not like Country Music, it would be hard to deny his amazing talent.

  • This is one of those classic songs that will always have meaning. For many, it is the story of life. Those that are young may not relate to it. If they're lucky maybe they never will.

For some of us, it is like a tapestry of our lives.

  • A True Master of His Craft in Every Sense!

  • Roy you are the best your eyes always sparkeled when you played you truely love what you do . thank you so much.

  • Roy Clark I picked up a guitar because of you...yesterday when I was young, you inspired a whole generation of pickers, thank you..you were always the real guitar man, and banjo and fiddle and mandolin..man you were... are somethin'

  • Born in Meherrin, Virginia, He grew up in Staten Island, New York and lived as a teenager in Washington, D.C. where his father worked at the Washington Navy Yard. At the age of 14, Clark began playing banjo, guitar, and mandolin, and he won two National Banjo Championships by the age of 17. He was simultaneously pursuing a sporting career, first as a baseball player, and then as a boxer, before switching over to music full time. At the age of 17, he had his first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry

  • An entirely different performance now that Roy has truly reached old man status.

  • OMG! This is an awesome performance coming straight from this man's heart. And he still sings it beautifully,& is able to keep it in the range of his vocal chords. And the guitar playing is second to none.Let's appriciate that he went to all of the trouble to sing it for us.Wt have very few of the great singers left. Lrt's appriciate them while we still can!

  • By no means my short comment was intended to slight Roy and this performance.

  • An oldie. But a goodie.
