Para mí claramente Elena Mosuc porque domina los agudos con con gran maestría pero tiene potencia en las notas medias y es capaz de hacer las coloraturas muy limpias además de ser la que más transmite con los gestos. Diana Damrau también es excelente, le da otros matices más románticos a la pieza. A Rancatore no la había escuchado nunca, pero también me gusta.
Elena Mosuc is the best! The top note is so full and powerful. Most of the other sopranos are running away from that. It is a very difficult and Mosuc just gives a singing technique lesson, though I do believe that that was the last thing in her mind at that moment.

Casi siempre que escucho cantar esto me da la sensación de que la cantante está sufriendo muchísimo (bueno, puede que sea así). Notas agudas descontextualizadas del resto, notas cortas sin separar, vibrato que no permite diferenciarlas... Por eso me gusta Luciana Serra, delimita las notas perfectamente sin que se le note el esfuerzo, como si fuera muy fácil, haciendo que suene de un modo muy natural. Al escucharla pienso en la música y no en el esfuerzo.
Vos no tenés idea de canto?? Bueno mirá, en el caso de Melero, Franco y Osvath, parece como si las hubieran colocado, más diría mechado entre las más grandes. Out of all of the singers, Luciana Serra has the best technique and you can literally hear every single note sung. Diana Damrau is definitely the most captivating though with her performance and style.
Nooooo!, Melero doesnt any opera version (the tempo is diferent too and slower). She is doing one concert version. All is diferent!!! The voice of Melero is one of the best of video. His tecnique too.

strictly talking about the high note, I found rancatore's high f a bit ... too sharp. i found mosuc's high f the best of the bunch, and not only the high note, but the scales were also good. of course serra is great too.
She sounds on tune to me too. What i was saying was that the sound is somewhere between a full,gorgeous,round note and a messy,almost scremed-like note. The reason for this, from what I've seen and heard (regarding Rancatore) is that she produces almost perfect high notes but only when she has the time to prepare them. Here the cadenza is pretty fast and that's why it came out this way. Mosuc also has this problem of preparing notes but she did a good job here-maybe that's why i was impressed :)
Oh, well then. I suppose it matters with the observer; most here tend to praise the loud note, but I found the note a bit flamboyant for the character itself; right now, the Queen must be pretending to cry out in pain.
Well ... actually the Queen is not crying out in pain (not in the segment/selection presented here). She laments her daughter's loss most of the aria, but towards the end, when she starts singing "du, du ...." the tone changes and she becomes hopeful that Tamino will rescue Pamina, so the high F is more like a cry of joy.

I can't believe I'm saying this because Diana Damrau is my absolute favorite singer in the world and love her the best in this role altogether, but Rancatore does have an INCREDIBLE "F" in these comparisons.
In addition Montserrat Melero, Milagros Franco, Julie Osvath were absolutely terrible. If Melero is going to sing that slowly she needs to hit all the notes, Franco sang about 1/3 of the right notes and there wasn't a high F. Osvath gets a full half meausre behind the orchestra and doesn't hit the F or the D before it either. That's some sloppy coloratura right there.
You are RIGHT ON! I agree completely....I think a deranged poodle could sound better than Franco. And Osvath is not only dressed like a peacock in her picture, but she sounds like a peacock that is being strangled. I know that is brutal...LoL. My point is, the ladies mentioned above really need to be singing something they can succeed at instead of attempting advanced coloratura repertoire that is out of their reach.

Okay, who are Milagros Franco and Julie Osvath, because they were just so dreadful I had to write this. Or maybe they were sick? Milagros Franco just was plain off, and did not have any technique. That high note was just a screeching attempt. And as for Julie, she dragged so much that the orchestra had to completely hold off and wait for her. And her last coloratura ascending arpeggio was just........ay ay ay.

hm, Serra is great, but Poblador is also fantastic, and miklosa and gruberova have also really beautiful voices - miklosas costume is amazing! i saw Poblador live and her voice made me shiver i never felt that before it was almost creepy, but so beautiful I love her singing!
I think that the vidoe of Gruberova does not do her justice, she is the most rnowned of these and the most famous Queen of the Night and this is not by coincidence. From the others I liked Damrau, Miklosa and Mosuc in the same order as I wrote them, but Miklosa has the ugliest costume, Im afraid.
I have never heard from some of these Queens before (specifically Mosuc, Rancatore, Melero, Poblador) but they aren't half bad. In fact, I was quite impressed with their skill. Still love Damrau for sustaining her High F (and now Mosuc, too. Brilliant).
the high E-flat at the end of Violetta's aria isn't written either... opera singers do what they like - look at Julia Osváth! What the f*** was she doing. I can't blame Franco... not even Damrau could sing it that fast!
Serra is like a machine with her coloratura, but I think Dessay and Damrau have the best sounding high notes. Mosuc was quite good, as was Gruberova. I liked Polito's sound quite a bit but it's too bad she missed the first high note and overshot the F. But #'s 6,7, and 8... well... maybe the queen isn't the perfect role for them...
I love Diana Damrau on the "Hölle rache" but I gotta admit that here Luciana Serra is much better. She has so much more control and is perfect on breathing!

I believe it is possible that the high F (of Rantacore's) sounded somewhat sharp to you because of the vibrato in it; she seems on-tune to me.

Okay, who are Milagros Franco and Julie Osvath, because they were just so dreadful I had to write this. Or maybe they were sick? Milagros Franco just was plain off, and did not have any technique. That high note was just a screeching attempt. And as for Julie, she dragged so much that the orchestra had to completely hold off and wait for her. And her last coloratura ascending arpeggio was just........ay ay ay.

They all are excellent, but Luciana Serra is the best... And in the second place, Edita Gruberova. They both are perfect!

and the winners are: Rancatore,Gruberova,Poblador...unfortunately the great Dessay in this video shows the vocal problems averybody knows...but she was the most beautifull queen of the night when she had the health voice...:( a tragedy for the opera world....ma di quella che cantava in chiesa??? ma ne vogliamo parlare??? hm, Serra is great, but Poblador is also fantastic, and miklosa and gruberova have also really beautiful voices - miklosas costume is amazing! i saw Poblador live and her voice made me shiver i never felt that before it was almost creepy, but so beautiful I love her singing!

I think that the vidoe of Gruberova does not do her justice, she is the most rnowned of these and the most famous Queen of the Night and this is not by coincidence. From the others I liked Damrau, Miklosa and Mosuc in the same order as I wrote them, but Miklosa has the ugliest costume, Im afraid.

I have never heard from some of these Queens before (specifically Mosuc, Rancatore, Melero, Poblador) but they aren't half bad. In fact, I was quite impressed with their skill. Still love Damrau for sustaining her High F (and now Mosuc, too. Brilliant).

the high E-flat at the end of Violetta's aria isn't written either... opera singers do what they like - look at Julia Osváth! What the f*** was she doing. I can't blame Franco... not even Damrau could sing it that fast!

Serra is like a machine with her coloratura, but I think Dessay and Damrau have the best sounding high notes. Mosuc was quite good, as was Gruberova. I liked Polito's sound quite a bit but it's too bad she missed the first high note and overshot the F. But #'s 6,7, and 8... well... maybe the queen isn't the perfect role for them...
