This music is "Planxty Burke" composed by the blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan 300 years ago. The title of this clip says 'Eleanor Plunkett", another O'Carolan piece, but I can't hear that here - but I'm not a jazz buff (?). I came to this clip through a love of Deanta's version of Eleanor Plunkett. Anyways, this sure is nice.
ottimi gli assoli di regina, brava, e carina ,simpatico il suo modo di applicare le treccine a destra,a sinistra si impiglierebbero nel violino............................
Great ! I just think the rythmic section could have hold her better during her solo. They could have make it explode and then come down to earth... but they staid quiet.
I am a HUGE Jean Luc Ponty fan, so my sister told me I'd like Regina Carter if I liked him. Yes she is bad as hell. I hear Grapelli influences too. Lovely!!!!!!
Holy smokes I never knew that a violin could sound like that? ( o _ 0 ) Whoa! Regina Carter is takes her instrument to an entirely different level of playing. Cool vid! Thanks for the post. Dude on tenor sax is tight. The bass player, piano and drummer are locking the entire thing down nice!
Regina is an awesome violinist. The range of her talents and diversity in musical styles makes her one the all time greats. I wish I was at this concert.
wow, Regina Carter is great. the melody is like a mixture of baroque and folk, then in segments of jazz. such an aromatic melody. five stars. and great piano solo

Pardon me, SOPRANO sax!
In many cross-overs--there's hardly any reference to the original old-Irish melody, except in the head.
So really it's more *outside* than *in*--a piece without familiarity with the Irish tradition.
I often lament that there's not much in-between ground between Planxty Burke melody and the and pure abstract improv.
Great performances & musicianship otherwise.
