  • May 23, 08 was a helluva day. We saw two tornadoes near Quinter and a large supercell near Ness City. Larges tornado outbreak in Kansas history

  • You Guys Must Haave Passed a STH-10.

  • someone there also recorded the same sound.

  • The tornado sirens sound like a bunch of blues harmonicas at the beginning.

  • we rarely get tornados even tho im on the edge of ontarios tornado alley

  • I live in Ontario's tornado alley. lol

  • lol?

  • i think i heard some thunderbolts,

    3t22, sth-10.

  • ktore moglyby zranic uszach

  • I also think i hear a 500-at siren in there.

  • To me, all I hear is a 2T22/3T22 and an STH*10.

  • I believe that was caused by the doppler effect. It is the same thing that makes the police car's siren sound lower after it passes you. The perceived pitch change is relative. If they would have stopped beside the siren, it would not have sounded lower.

  • the laws of physics!

  • The siren that they passed is an awesome siren. It happened to be a Federal Signal Sth-10 those things are loud and awesome too. In downtown you could hear either a Federal 2T22 or a 3T22 those are beasts too. Didn't hear any thundrbolts. That city is awesome using old Electro-Mechanical sirens.

  • you guys drove right by my house at the time, I was in the basement like a block away from where the high school is. that was some freaky stuff

  • is a test or a tornado warning???

  • It's a tornado warning...look at the tornado reports on the SPC site(may 23). A tornado hit Ellis near the high school and another one was west of the town.

  • cant u tell by the lightning

  • no i don't see a tornado

  • Around 2:00, that's my house!

  • Wow :)!

  • OMG, I KNOW WHO LIVES THERE TOO!!! Haha... YOU!!!!!

  • thats because they passed the siren. if you passed a honking car the pitch drops. When you are driving towards something, like, said siren, the sound waves are tighter making the pitch higher. When you pass it, the sound waves are "looser", therefore dropping the pitch.

  • Watch 0:00 to 0:03 on this video and look at the buildings on the right side of the street. Then look at my video - "Tornadoes hit Ellis, Kansas part 1/2. And look at 1:03 to 1:04 on that. Except, it wasn't raining when the first siren went off, it was around the third time

  • If you think about it it's probably because they pass the siren. It's like a car with a loud stereo, the bass is higher pitched coming toward you and drops off after the car passes. Just a guess.

  • Yes, we passed the siren quite fast on the car.

  • The siren at the beginning is a Federal Signal 2T22 and the siren at the end is a Federal Signal STH-10.

  • Awesome video! You can see a siren at 2:32 - 2:34
