lol i can't even get my q9450 to overclock to 3.2ghz stably,i have mine running on a 680i lt sli motherboard, and i have a closed system luqid cooling system.
@Apfitt i tried that lol,i got all the way up to 1.3625V,trying to get it stable, but when i set to that my rig would get stuck on the mobo makers splash screen, and i would have to reset the bios, but i have now found out the problems that are keeping me from being able to overclock, one,the q9450 is not supported on the 680i board(it's not stable at stock either),i have switched to a q6600 i have lying around, but now i can't overclock it cause my psu is a POS,
@trainergames Try updating your bios to latest version, many motherboards needed updates when 45nm cpus came to s775. Then check your ram sticks speeds, that all the sticks have the same brand. mixing brands etc is never good
@Apfitt Well i asked on the nvidia website,(before you read on,i did not build this pc, i bought it used in craigslist)and they said my board does not 100% support the yorkfield cpu's even with a bios update, and the ram i had been running was 2x2gb ddr2 1066 patriot viper, but is atuomaticly ran at @ 800mhz by the mobo because the mobo only 800mhz stock, but i have now in it,a q6600,and 2x2gb ddr2 800mhz coasir XMS2,and i can only get it mostly stable at 3.2ghz,but can't go higher cause of my PSU.
Thank you very much man i`m a noob but thanks to your vid and some tutorials i have overclock my q9400 from 2.66 to 3.20 tested for a few hours and works very good. Thanks again nice work
and if your oc is not passing 1 hour of occt or a good 10 hours on prime then your overclock is a bad overclock and will do two things first destroy your cpu soon and secondly perform worse then even finding a lower stable overclock because instead of finding unusued transisters all your doing is burning out good transisters in your cpu.
hey what tests did you run on this to make sure its stable have you ran occt. i would like to actually see that overclock pass occt. i have the same cpu. and 3.5 is the best i can do safely with out going over the vid which you already did the vid is 1.3625. and your not even over voltaging your northbridge. i really doubt that passes your occt show me that it does.
Hey bro, thks for the tip. Did my Q9505 at 3612.5MHz on FSB 425MHz. Will be trying to push it further this weekend to see whether it'll hit 4GHz. Must I need to run Prime to see for stability? Thks in advance.
@geraldlkc You dont "need" to run prime, but it is an efficient way to 'stress test' your system as you can keep loading it up until each core is running a process and thereby achieve 99-100% CPU usage.
During this I would watch the temperature ( your motherboard should have come with a bit of software to monitor the temps in windows).
The small suggestion I have is to clock the fastest u can get, then go back maybe 150mhz so ur not right on the edge.
hey dude, i want to overclock my asus p4p800 cpu but i dont know how much i need to increase the voltage in proportion to clockspeed. do u know a website where i can read about voltages on asus cpu's?
i have a Q9450 and i think the temperatures are to high because everest / speed fan / real temp tell me that core temperature's are 70C and cpu temperature 50C on full load and while not on full load like 50C cores or lower and cpu like 30 or so should i worry about the core temp or cpu temperature?
try gaming at 1.THRUUUUEEESAVENN volts for a sustained period of time, unless you want to be replacing your parts I suggest you don't tell noobs to try get those speeds, also list your ambient temps cause its probably a freezer in your room.
If your a noob heed my advice, clocking your cpu to 3.88ghz maybe ok (a bit too high for a safe clock imo) but clocking your ram to his speeds is stupid especially if you have value ram installed,
thats right! im a novice! its my first gaming pc! i wanna learn about overclocking but im a bit scared to do it because it is a risky something to begin with if being a rookie? Is there any danger involved when you overclock? But on the other site yes i buyed the expensive hardware because i maked up my mind and maked a important decision.Vista is not compatible with some games and software thats why i prefered Xp more but Vista got its good points.and....
I gonna give it a try.but for now i just try but not gonna use it?maybe in de future. But thx .now i can practice a bit and learn from you and other harcoregamers .

Hi i am going to get a new computer and i cant afford a quad core, i want overclock a E5200 to about 3ghz maybe 3.2ghz is this safe and it it easy to do??
Yeah I would avoid getting higher than 1.36 as listed on Intel's site for this board. You may start getting chip degradation over time with that high of voltage.
Usually you can get 3.7Ghz with 1066 DDR2 with it at the recommended maximum, not much of a sacrifice if you ask me for a safer OC. Also, show your NB voltage settings if it lets you view them, I know they show as Auto but some BIOS have the ability to monitor the voltage.
Is VDROOP much an issue on this when kicking up from idle?
i have a queastion i have neraly the same rig and all i havent tryed increase the voltage yeat, cant you just type 1,3 instead of all that wired stuuf 1,3854 ect
I Have the same mobo, but the intel Q9400 2.66 ghz. I cant do overclock, even at 3.0, that the pc dont start, my cooler is original, i thinking thats is the problem.
i ain't an expert but make sure when u clock, ur memory doesn't go to far. if you have ddr2 800 ram, you will have to drop that back. there is guides how to find out what is causing the problem, but to get the best you're gonna have a lot of reading and patience
Yeh some stability testing would be good...I wouldnt trust those settings to hold up against prime95. I've got practically the same system on air and get the Q9450 to 3.8 with tweaking ALL the settings...especially the FSB voltage (@1.4V).
This series of processors can go quite high on voltages (ONLY WITH GOOD COOLERS!) I've had mine up to 1.5V and it lives. at 1.46 now. My cpu temps in vista are around 48C.
i don't have a clue no. I know the very basics, and thats all this is for i don't pretend to know it all. I say i am noob at overclocking.
The video shows how to overclock tho. Thats all most people wanna know. If people wanna know the ins and outs, this isn't the video. This is the basics for noobs as myself.
You so much have no fucking clue what you are doing. "I don't know what that is", "leave execution bit disabled", 485 MHz ram, 1.39 volt CPU.
Execution bit are used to prevent some software exploits, that is for gaining administration access on unix machines or eventually for some virus to become a user with more access to the machine in Windows thought not very much needed since almost everyone is administrators already and do wtf they want.
... 485 MHz ram works because you have 1066/533 MHz ram, for someone who have bought 800/400 the machine would start to crash all the time if the memory modules survived it.
Why set all memory settings to manual in case the automatic settings are just fine?
Increasing voltage is because it was probably unstable at lower voltages, on the other side higher voltage will give higher temps so obviously there is an increased risk there. I don't know what CPU cooler you have?
I'm am about to buy a Asus P5Q-E together with a Q9550 and Corsair TWIN2X 6400C4DHX DDR2,4096MB Kit w/two CL4.
