  • What's wrong with you? You have non-hodgkins lymphoma disease!

  • can someone please add subtitles to this? i want to show this to my parents

  • The battle against psychiatrists should have happened a LONG TIME AGO!.. Its too late now!!.

  • Behaviour is verbal and linguistic. Chemical formulas are non liguistic. H2O does not translate or cause "see spot run." No words have ever been produced in a beaker, petre dish or under a microscope. Behaviour and psychology are linguistic and the phsycial world is non-linguistic.

  • At least members of the university are aware that all the other members are wackos and criminals.

  • I think I am lucky. I was seeing a psychologist and the psychologist told me to go to repeated sessions with the psychiatrists for drug prescriptions. I failed every time and all the time. As I was making the decisions to go, I happened to stumble upon this video segment as I was researching about museums. The psychologist that recommended me turned out to be nuts as I filed a report against him to the state & the APA.

  • Thank you!! i agree there are a lot of simialarities between the Nazis and phschiatrists!! and i was told i was even more crazy for saying that!!!

  • I call bullshit.

First and foremost, this guys rhetorics is full of it. OF COURCE I wouldn't say that someone is physically ill when I disagree with his reasoning, which is a MENTAL ability. Just like I wouldn't ask if someone is schizofrenic if he comes up coughing slime at me and had warts in his face. It's because it doesn't make any frikkin sense, not because one is "a real kind of disease" and the other is "made up to control people"

  • I totally agree that psychiatry is not a science, but where is my previous comment?

  • @globalchaos, It is not enough to talk about biological causes of mental deseases. Brains scan between normal persons that are doing different activities is different. Still today no one knows exactly what the anti-psychotics drugs cause in the brain.

Psychiatry is far away from being a science.

  • He's almost as good as Thomas Szasz.

  • @globalchaos1984 Did you actually just say he is "ignoring the contradicting evidence"? We're not sure how to explain this to you but you just argued yourself out of your own argument. Well done.

  • @CCHRInt Am I arguing with a child here? He's ignoring the multitudes of evidence that prove him wrong. Or should I say it another way, he is only presenting the evidence that fits into his narrow theory. Clear enough for you?

  • @globalchaos1984 right.....cite the "multitudes of evidence"

We want to teach you something about debate. You actually have to present one.

  • @CCHRInt It's sort of hard when you censor all my comments.

  • @globalchaos1984 We haven't "censored" one of your comments. You've posted repeatedly and still no evidence. So....we're waiting.....serve it on up.

  • @globalchaos1984 You can start with citing the evidence to counter the statements in the link you will find in the description above. Including former DSM task force member Allen Frances and other psychiatrists. That's a good place to start. Then we can go from there.

  • @globalchaos1984 My first two comments are missing below and you have comment pending approval on you connect the dots.

  • @globalchaos1984 sigh....this is getting old. Read the above and submit some rational counter evidence if you have any. We've posted every one of your comments but this is getting boring.

  • @CCHRInt Comparative brain scans between schizophrenic and unaffected brains are different. Are you to say that schizophrenics should stop taking their anti-psychotics?

  • @globalchaos1984 Better! That was a valid question. Look up the Journal of Psychological Medicine, July 7 2010 - "Anti-psychotic drugs are likely to cause brain damage. The results challenge the widely-held view that schizophrenia itself causes brain structural changes, such as less brain grey matter, bigger ventricles and larger cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) spaces. ." And we're not saying anyone should/shouldn't take drugs. We're saying they have a right to know the documented side effects

  • @CCHRInt I've been in this before with people who ignore science, aka Scientologists and when I post studies and facts they call them biased and untrue. So before I waste my time what do you consider hard evidence?

  • @globalchaos1984 LOL. This is like your fifth email you've sent in and we've posted everyone. We keep telling you cite the evidence to back your claims but you keep going off subject, because you don't seem to have any evidence Now this is getting lame. If you want to have a rational debate, you have to start with being rational. So, once again globalchaos, cite the evidence.

  • The point he makes at 5:35 when he says that in a mental institution "if you don't think about yourself and the world correctly, you'll be punished longer" (the punishment being the deprivation of liberty), man, that is brilliant.

  • I wonder why Dr. Schaler is a professor of psychology when he believes that mental illness is a myth. This man is dangerous. God help his patients. I will be praying for you Dr. Schaler. Very few, if any psychiatrists claim to heal a patient with mental illness. But the proper medication and treatment can create a greater quality of life.

  • Psychology is nothing but theory, period.

    They are the new philosophers.

In the past when you had a "life question" you would ask a philosopher for his advice. He would present you with theories that pertain to your state of mind. It isnt a science, its a fraudulent medical field that extorts and oppresses.

I am speak from years personal experience, and conversations I've had with psychiatrists/psychologists.

  • @The4LA2Baker0 Psychology uses the Scientific method to describe, explain, and predict behavior. With replication if the methods used to test certain theories prove valid and reliable it becomes fact like any other science. With that said how can you say that psychology isn't a science?

  • This man speaks of mental illness and physical illness as if they where 2 different worlds in our current society. Sure it takes one person to identify a disease. Sure it takes 2 people to I identify a mental illness but guess what? We aren't leaving by ourselves in this world. In the largest scope you can think of for an acceptable pathway of thought, we have to think in a way that will prolong the life of humanity. If you're going around killing people at free will, then sorry; you

  • Ok, i get what he is saying. But it can't be true that no one with "mental disorders" has been helped or that every psychiatrist is out to harm a person who seeks therapy/medication. To compare a mental disorders with physical ones such as Cancer is a little irrelevant and i'm not saying it is a totally 100% honest or civil field but im just showing a little skepticism because it deserves to be looked into. Reminds me of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest like whether R. P. Murphy is crazy or not.

  • I advocate what he says, and he is not the only one saying so. I also reached to the same conclusions in my own first hand experience and based on Systems Science. In my point of view majority of issues called mental illness are simply due to the lack of sufficient Mental Skills. These are not diseases or illnesses. Questioning one's mind is degrading and againt Basic Human Rights. Wish to contain the role of psychiaterists and psychotherapists in this country.

  • 3:50

Good to know! There is no such thing as insanity and everyone who kills no matter if their wife is raped and murdered in front of them. Therefore anyone who does anything "OBJECTIONABLE" then they should be fried or locked in jail forever.

  • I think that some "mental illnesses" might be caused by some brain dysfunction due to - for instance - some kind of psychical abuse from parents or use of drugs. But I won't ever believe that all the people who takes drugs like Ritalin are truly "sick". Many people are being misdiagnosed and such a diagnose stigmatize them fro the rest of their lifes. As we know, stigmatization is a marvelous negative reinforcer for undesired behavior.

  • @asmodeus585 the problem is that this is not physical, it cannot be detected. Of course you are right, some things may lead to such state of mind.

  • i cant believe i took a class from this guy.

  • This speech is beyound main stream and conventional talks; it is far deeper. You should be proud to hear his opinion, and think about it ... I truely believe he is right in majority of what he says in this talk.

  • Evolutionary pscyhiatry is up and coming ohhh lol

  • I agree with some of this BUT I was very, very VERY ill with an anxiety disorder. I would have been ill on a desert island, it had nothing to do with my being sub normal. It had to do with the utter torment of my soul. I was living a living hell and I could not get out of it. I am a very capable person, I am trained in various highly skilled professions and yet I became ILL and lost my ability to mend myself and my psychiatrist SAVED MY LIFE. I think it is so important that that support remains

  • I don't think you were ill ... You could not cope with some issues and should not label yourself. Helping someone to improve his life shall not be called treatment; it is giving more awareness, simply put!

  • pictures of the brains are so complex that you cant use them to diagnose mental conditions. what cause mental disorders are so small that you need an electron microscopre to see them. you cannot see different chemicals travelling through the brain by looking at a picture. and this guy is obviously into scientology

  • Well I know I was never schizophrenic after getting nat emp center's dvd but they told me I was. I got braincrapped with drugs to "treat" it until I got blinded with TD, akasthisia, and the torture and experience was terrifying to this day. I have no knowledge of what hallucinations are like but I sure got the loser treatment all my life with these labels following me around with permanent drug side effects.whatever ailments you have therapy and drugs is going down the wrong path.

  • I never committed a crime or wanted to commit a crime. All I wanted was to get my degree and work for 30 or more years and have kids, Wasted most of my life as afoster care child and psychiatric patient then ostracized in the workplace--colllege took my money but no one wants me to work for them. Now I have to work at home and can't associate with anyone because they just insult me. Somehow they found out my labels illegilly and then it follows me everywhere.

  • I figured out what helps me now, and it is not drugs or therapy but I have been rejected by society now and can't return. Now I am left with the overwhelming task of earning money at home because labeled people are not welcome in the workplace after the drugs cause permanent sleeping problems and anxiety...I did nothing objectionable--I was smiling all the time trying to hide my past and pretending to be happy, serving home baked goods to everyone, organizing lunches etc for coworkers.

  • psychiatry is a pseudoscience and a total fraud. they've brainashed us all!.

  • This is so ture ,we must do somthing now!!!!!! in the uk as well !!

  • Can we give the psychiatrists a little credit please? Admittedly throwing drugs at everything may be the equivalent of trying to debug a computer program with a volt-meter, but (speaking as a "recovered" depressive) where they don't cure they can provide the short term support you need to make life-changes that let you cope with life again. It's a shame to see irresponsible profit-hunters and their opponents ruining the reputation of a system that has the potential to positively transform lives.

  • i love this guy! he's a real individual.

  • If it is so obvious why are most diagnosed at 18-21 when they dont get a job right away? Why is it mostly males? DO SOME RESEARCH NNOW IT ALLS!!!! These are realpros, I am a real pathologist. Psychiatry is crap pseudo-science and a waste of schooling. GET REAL JOBS DRUG PUSHERS!! They would do less harm selling weed in the street.

  • schizophrenia was used in freuds day to mean SPLIT PERSONALITY!!! NOTHING ELSE. Now it is a catch all excuse to drug people. Having a defective brain is a pathological condition that can be viewed on autopsy but is EXTREMELY rare and no excuse to drug millions of kids who back talk their teacher.

  • Although I've always viewed that mental illness, generally, should be distinguished and approached differently than biological diseases, I believe this guy goes a bit far. Schizophrenia? Not real? A schizophrenics neurons have smaller cell bodies and stunted dendritic growth. Tell that to the parents who's lost their child to this disease(mostly occurs in young adulthood)...tell them that their son/daughter is making it up...

  • What study exactly are your referring to re: cell bodies?

  • mcavellero-"A schizophrenics neurons have smaller cell bodies and stunted dendritic growth"

I too, would like to see the studies - also the test used to show this.

  • Not only are you confusing correlation with causatiion, you are missing that people in that circumstance merely may have a dietary deficiency, and a lack of sunlight and mental stimulation, but the only people who SUPPOSEDLY are watchiung this are attempting to alter it with drugs, this is selection bias.

  • Spain (copy,

    Enrique Rojas Montes, Psiquiatra

  • "The truth is we cannot tell who is mentally ill and who is not by looking at pictures of their brains or analyzing their blood. Psychiatrists had to invent their own book of diseases because pathologists would have nothing to do with them."

"Mental illness refers to something that a person does. Real disease refers to something that a person has."

Dr. Jeffrey A. Schaler is stating the facts. Neuroscience has not validated anything in the DSM-IV. They cannot validate the metaphysical.

  • "We cannot tell who is ill and who is not by looking at the brain."

Does he live in a bubble? Has he picked up a neuroscience journal in, I don't, say the last twenty years or so?

  • What scientific studies can you cite that contradict this man?

  • I may not like few sentences and disagree with few aspects but as a whole I think Dr. is right and the main problem is too much power weve given the physiatrists

  • Yeah, he's right... Oh, that we could return to the good ole days, when people who acted or felt abnormally could just be punished, chained to the wall, locked in cages, subject to exorcisms and centrifugal chairs and electric shocks. So sad that modern psychiatry had to ruin it for us.

  • Rubbish soundbites

  • and you're an idiot

  • Utter rubbish. Schizophrenia is well established as a disease. Some susceptibility genes (e.g., Disc1) have been cloned and a further number of genomic susceptibility regions identified, where the corresponding genes will be cloned in coming years. Significant physical changes in the brains of schizophrenics have been measured (e.g., by MRI) by many groups. This is the worst sort of denialism and will only hurt sufferers and their families. Check PubMed and Wikipedia etc for real information.

  • You've missed the point entirely.

  • "Well established" should read: "well agreed upon". Those are not the same thing.

The bottom line is, no psychiatrist can cure a single case. Never have by their own admission.

The rest of it is just babble to obscure their lack of results and allow them to obtain more billions in subsidies from the gov--our money, by the way.

  • Very thought provoking.....

  • FREEDOM SPEECH!!!!!!!
